The Last Good RPG
>>
>>3967150
Not true, but I'm sure it's good. I've wanted to play it for awhile now. Sell me on why it's so good, anon.
>>
>some old as fuck forgotten nonename jarpig
sugoiiine!!
>>
>>3967150
No way in hell. Nier and nier automata are both great. And theirs the souls series too. Etc

Last remnant was pretty fucking good though.
>>
This is the one game where someone coukd say they got filtered and I wouldn't blame them.
>>
>>3967361
Souls bourne games are great but come on they are clearly not RPGs. You can tell by the story telling and the way it handles lore. It just has skill upgrade system which copies that of RPGs
>>
>>3967150
The ONLY reason this game is remembered at all is because the PC version is better than the console version and PC master racers can't let it go
>>
>>3967150
It's incredible how crazy the combat gets as you progress into the game with all the different skills and systems that you keep discovering during its length and all the permutations and strategies that they offer.
I really was amazed by it and how little I had heard of it.
>>
>>3967150
No its the last remnant, not the last good rpg
>>
I hate how I got too overpowered and therefore the bosses scaled up to the point they became unwinnable.

360 version
>>
>>3967463
they're basically classic dungeon crawlers
>>
>>3967785
How intricate does it get? I played a couple hours recently and felt like there wasn't that much depth to combat. I know there's a lot of stuff going on under the hood when it comes to character progression but nothing on the more active side.
>>
>>3968796
The first hours really don't make justice to it, it looks simplistic, random and limited at first but once you understand certain things you gain a lot of control over the battle system and ways to deal with shit. For example, you end up learning that sometimes is best to designate a unit full of healers that almost never attack and instead wait for healing or resing other units.
There are monsters with mechanics that punish ganging on them and you learn to designate units with very high hp character able to tank.
There are skills that allow to so summon monsters that are like a boss to fight on your side, there are "get away from jail free card" skills like black hole that can save your ass when your about to lose.
Ranged abilities allow you to poke from afar an enemie without being exposed to a counterattack from them. There are skills that allow you to manipulate the moral. You learn which skills are better against big units and which are better against bosses. There are skills that use items which do not consume battle points and allow you to save them up for bigger skills. You also learn that there are optional characters with their own unique skills like Jager's Beowulf and you start looking out for those characters.
Not to mention that you control how any character other than Rush evolves in a general way, you can tell them to focus on physical skills or magic, to learn new kills or focus on what they already know, if they should learn healing skills or not, etc

>i can put my stats to be a wizard
>or i can put my stats to be a knight
they're RPGs
>>
>>3968824
Interesting. Maybe I'll pick it up again.
>>
>>3968824
Has there ever been an rpg with this much to it other than like SaGa?
>>
>>3967520
N-n-no you!!!
>>
>>3973174
Almost literally any crpg?
>>
>>3973174
Funny you mention SaGa, The Last Remnant was initially pitched as SaGa Frontier 3.
>>
>>3973827
Hell CRPGs have way more to it then this. This game is primitive compared to them.
>>
>>3967150
i don't know the game but does the sword exist in it ? i like the design
>>
>>3974011
I think the main badguy uses it

Complexity doesn't actually equal depth; it's how mechanics interact with each other that matters

Inferior to TLR gameplay in every way

>Complexity doesn't actually equal depth; it's how mechanics interact with each other that matters
This post is indistinguishable from a Markov chain generator fed all the posts of /vrpg/. About all it’s missing is the word “engage” and maybe “writing”
>>
>>3975011
>Instant cope
>>
>>3974011
Yes.
It's the Valeria Heart, the posterboy remnant of Athlum and a literal skyscraper sized sword stuck in the middle of the city which can also be obtained as human sized equipment in a pretty convoluted way.
>>
>>3975011
He's not wrong, though. Tri-Ace games are really bad about this for example, the skill and crafting systems all give you an edge in battle but they barely interact with one-another.
>>
>>3975017
Thanks anon
>>
I'm gonna replay this soon. Hopefully it runs well on the Steam Deck. I was never able to finish it when it released, so I hope I've developed more brain cells.

haha...
>>
>>3967150
I made it 20 hours in back in 2009 or something and got hard filtered by the scaling. Really cool game.
>>
>Sister gets kidnapped
>Go looking for her
>Find a battle going on
>See the only woman on the battlefield
>Looks nothing like your sister
>OMG it's my sister
>Run into the middle of the battle
I forgot how goofy the opening of this game is. I can't remember if there's a story reason for it or if Rush has just only met 2 women in his life.
>>
>>3976673
Rush is the consistently the dumbest guy in the story.
>>
>>3967520
Squeenix pulled the original game from Steam when the remasterd console version (which added most of the improvements from the PC version) was announced, but then this newer version was never brought to PC.
Since the game isn't allowed to be sold on Steam anymore and there never was a physical release for PC, it's now impossible to (legally) get it on PC anymore, which contributes to its cult status.
>>
>>3976935
I found it on internet archive, and it says it's just a DODI repack.

https://archive.org/details/the-last-remnant
>>
>>3976975
Yeah there are various places where you can still find pirated copies and you could also play the XBOX version through an emulator if you wanted, but that's why I specified legally.
>>
>>3976673
If it wasn't for his boyfriend David Rush would've died in the first 20 minutes of the game. He's a luckshitter shounen protag.
>>
>>3977003
the private tracker I use has it
it's one of the game I always think about trying to get into but never do
>>
>>3978995
he said LEGALLY dumbass
anyone could go torrent it right now
>>
>>3967150
>The Last Good RPG
In what way?
>>
>>3979095
I bought it for the ps4 like a month ago. I don't know if it's also available on ps5.
>>
>>3981853
that's the remaster, not the original game, which is the entire point of what that guy was talking about (where he also specified PC instead of consoles)
I know consolefags are retarded but come on
>>
>>3981930
What? You can't play the remaster? Does it trigger your autism? Do you also want to play it on the original xbox360 at 720p?
>>
>>3982047
I've already played the remaster as well
That guy was specifically talking about the legal availability of the original on PC
Just stop posting at this point, this is getting embarrassing
>>
>>3975849
I've played it from start to finish on the Steam Deck, it runs very well.
I have to replay it again, somehow, I often think about it.
>>
>thread being kept alive by one dude sperging out for no reason about something that no one cares about
great game really more people should play it
>>
>>3984744
Yeah been playing it. I forgot how open the game is. You can really just go do whatever and there's sidequests everywhere. I recall you're not supposed to grind, but I can't just leave sidequests unfinished so I'm probably fucking myself.
>>
>>3984790
>so I'm probably fucking myself.
Not really. BR in PC/Remaster is basically made so you can do whatever you want without screwing yourself. Even then, sidequests and guild tasks provide some really good and versatile characters so you're only benefiting yourself in the end.
>>
>>3984796
That's even more concerning, because I never finished it when I was younger because I thought I'd made it too hard to complete. That just means I was shit.
>>
>>3984768
>t. retard who has the reading comprehension of a 4 year old
>>
>>3984799
Sometimes, you just need to experiment with formations, party members and building teams. Battles that were way too hard at first became manageable after building the teams better.
>>
One of the things that frustrates me with this game but is also one of its charms is how many hidden systems there are. You just can't see anything. There's no way to know or track your companions relationship to you until the game just tells you that they unlocked their true potential from being friends with you but then doesn't tell you what that even means. There's no bestiary or anything like that to track what materials can be found where. Your people just kind of learn things and you can't really work out what they will learn. Sometimes you can use some skills in a battle but not others and you can't really tell why not.

Again, definitely part of its charm, but I sure would like to see some of these things.
