I love this game so much it's unreal
Same but IWD2.
Same here anonWhat do you love about it the most?I love that it feels like an actual d&d campaign, also epic music and great visual design that helps to get immersed
>>3969756not op but imo 2e dnd is just better. the to hit rate is essentially fixed by level so the encounters cant be won by simply autoattacking with high bonuses. even spamming buffs isnt really enough on its own. also there is no hp bloat2e spells are more complex and enemy saves are strongeralso the controls are simply more responsive and readable. all the 3d games are a fucking mess
>>3969751I unironically like IWD2EE.
>>3969845Nothing to be unironic about, it's EE is great.
>>3969756To me it just feels really well paced. I played a lot of the other IE games when I was younger but only got to IWD1 recently, and I don't think I ever got bored or fed up with any single area. The moment I I started feeling done it was usually over, and the little interactions and stories in each area kept it interesting. Also agreed about the visuals and sound, just a really cozy experience all around.>>3969774I'm also a 2E appreciator. After having played a bunch of buildfag games in a row it was really nice to just be able to make my party and go. I find it much more fun focusing on solving individual encounters with what I have at hand rather than worrying about build planning.
>>3969886>To me it just feels really well paced.good pointthat's a benefit of having a linearly structured campaign compared to open world
>>3969756the funnest thing about IE games is creating a party of bad asses and levelling them up, and IWD just lets you do this, with just enough story to make the sequence of fights feel like an adventure. Party of four for the win: Paladin, Ranger / Cleric, Thief > Mage and Bard. Also, Dragon's Eye is an INCREDIBLE track, https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=QjyaQGaUGsI&list=RDQjyaQGaUGsI&start_radio=1
>>3970035>Bardit's crazy how bard went from shit-tier in original version to a powerhouse literally carrying the party in complete edition
>>3969740Forgotten realms was running on all cylinders when this came out too
>>3969740Fuck all the dumb niggers that called it Diablofied downgrade of Baldur's Gate.
>>3974813Everyone I know who played BG when it came out also liked IWD.
>>3969756>helps to get immersedIf you want to get immersed you should find another genre of games! lmao imagine slogging through a Crpg like this for immersion, what a complete and worthless faggot.
>>3974820Not the guy you are replying to but i am just curious what games YOU think are immersive? RPGs or not just in general. I always look for more recommendations
>>3974820The “people” who are into RPGs but hate roleplaying are really fucking weird.
Tweaks Anthology allows you to change class and race combos (and things like human multiclass, etc), so I recently used a party that had a halfling paladin and a dwarf ranger-->druid.
>>3974880MetroKingdom Come Deliverance 1&2Red Dead 2Kenshi
>>3969740Currently playing Pillars of Eternity 2 after finishing 1. Looking to play this next. I dont know anything about it so please no spoilers but any must have mods?
>>3974891dnd 2e is good exactly because it restricts such race/class combinations.
>try to play IWD first time>start thinking up a bunch of cool character concepts to fill up a party>Take almost any opportunity to choose sub-classes like Evil Paladin, specialized mage, swashbuckler, cleric with a specific god, and a Shaman because I thought it'd be neat>give them all bows because I know how OP they are in Baldur's Gate.>first cave with the orcs>get absolutely destroyed.>power through for a couple hours until I can whittle them down.>"Yeah, maybe I don't want to go through that when it only gets harder from here">a month later>"Maybe I should try it again, I kind of miss the old RTWP gameplay of BG and PS:T.">This time, make a bog standard party of each of the classic archetypes (Fighter, Paladin, Mage, Thief, Ranger, Cleric)>No special gimmicks, just one multiclass >give three of them bows, three of them shields (one of which isn't wearing armor, and another one has pips in two-handed weapons)>Destroy the Orc cave without even reloading.>Just keep on going.>First time the party ever rests is in Kuldahar>no potions used, a few spells. Are sub-classes that bad, or are bows that nerfed?
>>3969740This and IWD2 are my favorite for Dawi runs.
>>3974982you want the GoG installer of the complete editionthat's the base game with the expansions, including balance and technical patches>any must have mods?widescreen support is the only thing absolutely necessaryI believe the font size doesn't scale though
>>3974976are these games so boring you would rather spend time shitposting in a thread about a game/genre that is not of interest to you?damn
>>3974982Are the gog and steam versions the same
>>3974982Bubb's Spell Menu is must have.
>>3975253I can't be certain but I think steam only has the EE versionwith GoG while you don't have the complete edition available for purchase, it should be included with the EEor maybe notdon't quote me on that I got mine when CE was still available for purchaseanyway since it's a GoG release you know what to doPSyou are probably fine playing EE if you want toI never tried it and don't intend to since I have an option of playing the original
>>3974820>stop liking things i don't like
>>3975175Fragile Crpg cuck
>>3975285that hit a nerve?goodnow get outside and eat some tide-pods you rascal or whatever you kids do these days
>>3974982If you play the original non-EE version, IWD Fixpack, IWD Unfinished Business, and IWD Item Upgrade. If you play the EE version, they are included by default.
>>3975130>Take almost any opportunity to choose sub-classes like Evil PaladinStopped reading here. IWD did not have subclasses.
>>3969740I've never heard of it, what is it /
>>3969740Plan to give it a try after Kotor 2
>>3969740The problem of this game it has to compete with BG and its mods
>>3975335It's a RTwP hack and slash using D&D 2nd editition rules (mostly) set in Icewind Dale, the far north of D&D's Faerun setting. Uses the Infinity Engine from Baldur's Gate 1&2. You create a party of up to 6 characters.
>>3969740I was a young kid when I played this. I got so hyped up with the cool portraits. I made six wizards of varying flavor. We did not survive the second encounter. Never touched it since lolI need to try this again sometime
>>3975361IWD really does have the top tier of cRPG portrait art.My fave run was a solo paladin through the main game plus all expansions. Taught me that the engine has a hard cap of level 50. “next level: -1 xp, godhood”
>>3975350What mods does BG have other than SCS and the NWN conversion? I'm trying to find more content to add but there is hardly anything. Last time I checked out Lava's mods, but he is so heavy handed with the leftist stuff. His Fyalvara mod is about avenging her FTM 'brother' and there's a twist that the villain was actually more supportive of 'his' transition, while Fyalvara blames herself for not noticing and using the dead name.
>>3975355oh fuck, an actual good answer. I didn't expect that. Thank you.
>>3975364Jesus Christ. Does he allow the MC to murder everyone in his mod at least?
>>3975369Yeah. Actually pretty good mods outside of that. Also forgot to mention that Fyalvara split up with her husband but they are still on good terms, since he's such a nice guy.
>>3975364tactics remix and other content morpheus added (https://www.morpheus-mart.com/tactics-remix)improved anvil (http://www.blackwyrmlair.net/Mods/Readme/ia/index.html)and plethora of mods scatered over multiple sites likehttps://www.gibberlings3.net/https://www.shsforums.net/https://www.pocketplane.net/
>>3975332Ok, whatever you'd call this then, retard.
>>3975407>Ok, whatever you'd call this then, retard.a modded port of IWD into the BG2 engine with significant changes from IWD such as the addition of kits that weren’t the original game, dipshit-san
>>3975375>improved anvilEveryone seems to be shitting on that one. Why are you recommending it to us?
>>3975431>Why are you recommending it to us?im not, i just gave examples of big mods, i never even played it
>>3974820I find Icewind Dale immersive to play. The music, backgrounds and atmosphere contribute to the experience of an adventure. More so than some RPGs that explicitly focus on story.
>>3969756>I love that it feels like an actual d&d campaignLet me guess: You roll 90+ stats and give your characters multiple 18s in their primary attributes.
>>3975308Fragile Crpg cuck what a feminine little bitch you are. L
>>3975436>i never even played it/vrpg/ in a nutshellthanks for being honest
>>3975569its a infamous overhaul mod I gave u multiple sites to check with hundreds of mods, honestly my bad i shouldnt bother feeding information to someone with such low IQ they cant even use google to find basic information, it was clear you are a turbo nigger and should be ignored.
>>3975263Thank you> anyway since it's a GoG release you know what to doI do not tend to buy games that are old enough that the company that made them no longer exists or if they do, the people who made them long left... But i will say i have made exceptions in the past on Steam on super deep discounts solely to train the steam algorithm to know what i like and it works well. That said, I am aware I dont own anything on Steam so I back up, uhm, copies of games I """buy""" on Steam on my local server
>>3975618Couldn't be more obvious that BG doesn't have more than a handful of good mods. Not much of an advantage over IWD. Even staple mods like BG2's Unfinished Business can't be trusted to not amateurishly raise Minsc's attributes permanently and duplicate Boo.
>>3975335Baldur's Gate minus the boring stuff.
>>3977784>>3977785Looks like a fun time!
>nta>>3975494Would you (or anyone else) like to provide insight on what a 'balanced' stat total would be in an Infinity Engine game? What's fair to you? Because obviously DnD 2e has far different scaling issues than a system with pre-made point buys or standard arrays (3e and onwards)>Just play with the stats you roll you casual.I'd love a mode where you get a single roll of stats before you even choose a race or class, and then are forced to go from there and pick 'builds' to fit the stats instead of the other way around. That's how I played DnD as a kid before 3e was released. The only issue is that people would do the same thing as the current stat roller and reset a hundred times. As long as the player has any choice to reroll for 90s+, many will opt to do so. Kinda like how people sit and spam reforge on Terraria for BiS prefixes.
>>3975308>>3975285Play nice and love one another like brothers or else I'm going to tickle the both of you into submission. >=]
What's a good beginner class to play in these? I made the mistake of doing fighter and spellcaster in BG1 which meant I had the HP of a mage and no spells. I would just get one shot from everything and it was a real struggle to survive.
>>3969774dam son. solid points all across the board.
>>3977939I think re-rolling stats is ok, but moving points between rolls is where it becomes munchkin. So you roll six sets of 3d6 and then assign them to STR, DEX, CON, WIS, INT, and CHA as you see fit, but you can't add and subtract between the 3d6s.>>3978011IWD1 allows you to roll a party off up to 6 characters. So a 'standard' party would be a fighter, a cleric, wizard, and thief.
>>3969751i played through it 3 times. tried again recently, the UI was killing me. I dont know how I handled all the LOOT. not enough space. I always remember pretty sure I looted everything and would take it to a seller all the time. oh yea forgot i have 5 characters.. well. IDK. but yea the fucking atmosphere, music, game, story, the graphics/images was awesome. I remember hearing about it before it came out, forgettting about it when it came out. didnt hear about it until like 4 months later. Jumped and got it. Always loved D&D but never played it, only ijn the pretend dice real life game. But loved the RPG rules.
>>3978011full party of 61 fighter1 pure cleric (essential for heals/buffs and TU)1 dual-class fighter 1 or 3 to mage (dual classing is humans only)1 thief or fighter/thief multiclass1 more martial of your choicethe last slot is anything you personally want, I would recommend a bard, there is a [high level] song that gives strong regen and +2AC and having some extra buffing/CC/summoning spell slots is also nice, the song will be available around start of chapter 3 or something>few random tips- make martials specialize in different weapons, say one is axes one is swords- at levels 1-2 ignore 2H melee weapons, everyone who can carry a tower shield gets a tower shield- don't waste spellslots on direct damage spells before casters are lvl 5 at the very least, unless you really need fire/acid to deal with trolls of course
My problem with games like this is I have no idea which spells will be useful so I just grabbed two that sounded thematic.
>>3978081>plays the game with the most goated character portaits ever>imports AI slop of a Korean MMO elf instead
>>3978110None of the default portraits looked like me so I had to include one that resembled myself. I can't play an RPG if the character doesn't look like me.
>>3978081Crowd control spells are the best at low levels. Grease, sleep, web, command (cleric spell).
>>3978158How's the undead hunter in this one? Sounds good, but not very useful if the game doesn't have a lot of undead.
>>3978162Those kits are basically cheating. So to answer your question, yes, UH is good.
>>3978173Good, this is my first infinity engine game and I want to basically be cheating as I learn the ropes. What would you say would be the best fit for my last two slots? I've got my Fighter/Mage, Undead Huner, Cleric, and Thief. A Full caster? Maybe like a Bard or like a Druid?
>>3978011Warrior classes like fighter, paladin, ranger are easiest. It's good to have a couple spellcasters in your party so you can learn how they work. Priests like cleric and druid know all the spells they can cast, so you can get to know them better more easily.
>>3978185Ranger, paladin or FMC
>>3978223You'd still recommend another Paladin when I have an Undead Hunter? They're that good here?
>>3978225look manyou want a fighter, a cleric, a mage, a fighter/thief, and optionally a bard
>>3978251Alright, guess I'm ready then.
>>3978162There are plenty of undead throughout the game and it's expansions.
>>3978262Have fun!Btw in 2E, high WIS is only really necessary for divine casters, like cleric, druid, paladin. Your Bard needs high INT because he gets access to select arcane spells. Everyone benefits from high DEX.
>>3978282Get outta here with your tryhard nonsense.
>>3978282>high WIS is only really necessary for divine casters, like cleric, druid, paladinThe tooltip said something about wisdom governing reaction times and general awareness levels so figured it played a roll in stuff like perception checks and initiative rolls or some such.
>>3978323He was already going tryhard with his stats, they were just allocated unoptimally.>F/M with 18s in Str, Wis, Int, Cha, 19 in Dex, but low Con.
>>3978366You just have to reroll until you get 90+, its the law.
>>3978366>>F/M with 18s in Str, Wis, Int, Cha, 19 in Dex, but low Con.Sounds like your average elf.
>>3975339Finished but got the itch to play again, I at least got IWD downloaded and ready
>>3969751>EE neverC'mon Beamdog I just want a steam release to sit next to his older brother.
>>3981241>EE neverBest I can do is modder fan fiction trannyslop. The source code had to go back to its home planet, you see.
>>3969740>it's unrealPretty sure it isn't, zoomer ...
>>3981440I loved that map. Playing the Serpentine mod and a bunch of bots
>>3981241>Beamdog>IWD2EEFUCK NO.
>>3981282Wait wait wait. Does the fan made IWD2EE have trannyslop in it? How?
>>3981632By trannies, for trannies.
>>3981632Not in the mod itself. But I'm sure the dev discord is full of troons!
>>3981717>>3981755top kekGot me stressing for a bit. I stopped caring about faggot creators since I heard Bohemian Rhapsody.
>IWD2EEShit was kino, I don't give a damn who made it or who populated its fucking discord, the end result was great and better than anything Beamd*g ever produced.
>>3981587They did fine the BG1 companions are easy to ignore and dragonspear is cool outside of the tranny
Does it play the same as BG1? It's all based on the same edition of dnd right?
>>3981992I liked Neera and Dorn. Dorn is like that edgy character a thirteen year old trench coat wearing kid would make. Neera's wild mage shenanigans can be funny at times. Flipping people's gender mid-fight add insult to injury. I've yet to play with them on BG2 though.
>>3981993Vanilla IWD1 is similar to BG1, except you create a full custom party. There are no NPCs to recruit. IWD1EE incorporates lots of stuff from BG2, like weapon proficiencies and class kits.
>>3982211a slight correction anon>weapon proficienciesthose were always in 2e and both BG1 and IWD had those from day 1
>>3982640You are correct. I should have clarified that BG2/IWD1EE have different proficiencies from the vanilla versions of said games.
>>3982640I would assume that he means how BG1 used larger groups of weapons while BG2 broke them into more specific types. I haven’t played IWDEE, only the original, but I could see that IWDEE altered IWDs weapon proficiencies as a consequence of porting the game into the BG2 engine in the same way that BGEE did.
>>3982678>>3982681aye, that is correct
>>3969740>pure fully customizable party kinoMore CRPGs need to be like this, I couldn't care less about party members with their dumb drama or who are only liked for memes.
>>3982846I like them for making meme teams (I haven't tried 5 barbarian 1 cleric, I should do that) but devs love their self inserts a lot. I have a feeling it's gonna make a comeback with AI though. Imagine just setting up characters you made with personalities+backstories and the game generates replies and whatnot as you go through the game. Mite be neato.
>>3983086By the time ai comes around we could just ask an ai to make us an extra bg2, accurate to what we might expect, rather than trannyslop pushed by wotc, or just live in a matrixNiche games will be dead at that point. No one wjll probably even play normal games or go outside
>>3983143People need to do that immediately, sick of it. Pretty sure that Cormyr total conversion is 100% AI-created. Need good AI BG. The kind you train with real modules and boxed sets. Thick books of spells.
>>3983182its coming. ai can do basically everything else at this point. give it a few years. it'll definitely come before the next serviceable dnd gameI mean, look at solasta for example. pretty bad all around. bad ai. they gave each ai mage like, a SINGLE spell they could use because they're stupider than niggers and cant understand how to program. and yet it was the only dnd game ever that had flying enemies. it was serviceable. it was the first somewhat serviceable game in like 15 years.ai is definitely coming before the next good game
I for one welcome our future AI DM overlords.
>>3983319I can't wait to play AI mod where it generates party banter based on the character bios you wrote for each character.
