Best DLC for New Vegas.
>>3978625>Best DLC for New VegasOld World blues is the best NV DLC thoughever?
Dead Money was fun, but I liked Honest Hearts characters a bit more. HATE the “bear bull bear bull bear bull” dreadlock having-ass, but good DLC for equipment and caps. Straight up refused to play Old World Blues after suffering through the first 15 minutes of goylennial writing.
>>3978625ATMOSPHERICSURVIVAL KINO
>>3978982>s after suffering through the first 15 minutes of goylennial writing.can't imagine how awful it must be to play NV for the first time after the Millennial Writing thing became a meme
>>3979009It's too old to be millennial writing. Gen X more like it.
>>3979015zoomcucks are oddly obsessed with blaming millennials for gen x shit.
>>3979034ok boomer XD
>>3978940No. Old World Blues is reddit slop. Worst New Vegas DLC. Even Honest Hearts is better.
>>3978982Honest Hearts is better because it's more open world to explore with less restrictions, but Dead Money does have a better story, imo, it's just too limiting and irritating to play more than once. Feels more like a chore than a fun game.
>>3979279I’m sort of inclined to agree. When I was just a wee tyke I loathed Dead Money and found Old World Blues incredibly charming. Now that I’m a bit older I appreciate the challenge and atmosphere of DM whereas OWB frequently comes off as obnoxious. Honest Hearts can be a bit of a slog at times, but it’s still entertaining. Lonesome Road doesn’t really work for me anymore.
>>3978625That's not Honest Hearts.
>>3978982Old World Blues is very bad.The only good part is the loot, but the issue is the issue is that it just clashes with the tone and setting of the game. Regular FNV is a really down-played, low sci-fi. Sure you have laser guns and robots, but it's all done to be a bit of a 50s envisioning of the future, and feels more like a western.OWB, and to a lesser degree both DM and LR, fuck that up by adding in a bunch of ridiculous sci fi bullshit. Like sentient ai, surgery centers capable of anything, holograms, matter generators, forcefields, and a whole host of bullshit.
>>3979279It doesn't help that Old World Blues is nothing but constant combat (bad combat with hit sponge enemies) and jokes which feel only just a step above what you'd see in the Big Bang Theory
>>3982248>sentient aiwhich one was that?
>>3982351You, the player
I'll be honest, I don't like any of the NV DLCs
dead money > old world blues > honest hearts > lonesome road
>>3978672fpbp
>>3982248That's the point. The entire game is a loveletter to the 1950's with The Kings, the western vibe being a borderline reference to film serials. It's meant to feel different and have a vibe of 50's scifi and medical horror a la The Fly or Forbidden Planet. I agree it is out of step with the western aesthetic, but so are gauss rifles, energy weapons, chinese stealth suits, neofuturistic knightly orders, and every thing else about the Fallout universe.
>>3978625Agreed
>>3982482>it's terrible on purposeYeah so it's still terrible.
Honest Hearts is the best one because it has the least amount of stupid gimmicks and the most genuine writing.
>>3982482Mr House isn't asking the courier to test-fly his latest airplane, and Sunny Smiles isn't going on about the O.K. corral. Mr House is closely based on Howard Hughes, and Ghost-town Gunfight mimics the archetypical western shoot-out, but they take themselves seriously enough to not just be references. It's funny people with real problems. The King might be silly and his cyborg dog doesn't match the drapes, but his problems are real, so I buy it. Old World Blues is "funny" people with "funny" problems, and the penis-fingers aren't exactly helping me get in to the problems of the brains in jars. No matter how good it would have been, it wouldn't have meshed with the rest of the game if they wanted to be shlock sci-fi, as the rest of the game tries for a very different tone.OWB is a Fallout 3 DLC that forgot which game it was for.
>>3978672>every dlc weapon has (GRA) in its name
>>3984152What destroyed any respect I still had left for Obsidian was when they included my beloved .223 pistol from Fallout and called it “That Gun” and butchered the sound effect into some tinny bullshit rather than reusing the original. About as bad as how the pixel “remaster” of FF6 massacred the intro audio.
>>3984157>About as bad as how the pixel “remaster” of FF6 massacred the intro audioIn all fairness the only guy who figured out how to emulate that correctly 41-percented.
>>3984152>>3984157you are acting autistic here
>>3979279Mind-broken by reddit. OWB is a great parody of old sci-fi movies, and calls communists "animals". Reddit adopting absurdism years later doesn't make the DLC reddit. The combat can suck if you don't have the right perks or use the right weapons.
>>3978625Dead Money for goldHonest Hearts for 1911Old World Blues for best girl stealth suit MKIILonesome Road to nuke both NCR and Legion
>>3978625Dead MoneyOWBHonest Heartsshit Lonesome Road
>>3978625desu Dead Money's writing is so annoying. they force the main theme down your throat over and over and over and over again.I GET THAT ITS ABOUT LETTING GO YOU DONT NEED TO TELL ME FOR THE 12TH FUCKING TIME!! I CAN ASSESS BASIC NARRATIVE THEMES!!!the resetting your gear and atmosphere do kinda make up for it tho.
>>3984142>Old World Blues is "funny" people with "funny" problems, and the penis-fingers aren't exactly helping me get in to the problems of the brains in jars. That's the whole point of the story though. They're locked in a prison of their own making, occupied with banal adolescent preoccupations which don't address their problems at all.It fits well if you think the central theme of the game is being trapped by the past. Better than Honest Hearts in fact. The departure in tone is annoying though.
Lonesome RoadDead MoneyHonest HeartsOWB because I think the combat is way more annoying than Dead money, I actually dropped OWB for a while because of that.
>>3982351Oh right I forgot, they're actually just super advanced personality modules or whatever.I guess that's a really bad example since sentient ai has been in Fallout since 2.
>>3982482Can't you say the exact same thing about Mothership Zeta? That's a love letter to mid-century horror and science fiction B-movies.But it's rightfully hated because it takes something which is best left to the periphery and makes it the star of the show.
>>3984142>OWB is a Fallout 3 DLC that forgot which game it was for.Fallout 3's DLCs were way more in-tune with the world building of the series than you think. (minus Mothership Zeta of course) Operation Anchorage fits with the militarism and expands the lore of the pre-war world. Point Lookout adds a lot of interesting stuff and, world-building-wise, is very in line with Fallout 1 and 2. The Pitt isn't really out of tone either, it has a wildly different atmosphere and setting while keeping the logic of the main games. The Pitt and Point Lookout are also cool because they mention off-screen factions and makes the world feel bigger. The Pitt brings up "Ronto," so I guess there's some big nation over in the ruins of Canada's largest city. Point Lookout mentions "The Abbey," some mysterious group of Catholic missionaries still existing in the wasteland.
>>3986539>It fits well if you think the central theme of the game is being trapped by the past. That's definitely a core theme of the (non HH) DLCs, but is it really a theme of New Vegas as a whole?Let me think about this.Well I guess the NCR, Brotherhood, Legion, and even smaller factions like the Khans and White Gloves do talk about bringing back past glories in a way. Mr. House I don't think fits that too well. He does mention Vegas's former glory a bit, but his focus is more on the future.Do the Kings fit? They emulate Elvis but aren't really focused on the past. Maybe you could tie in the Boomers who have recognized their need to change. The main storyline with Benny followed by the 2nd battle of Hoover Dam doesn't really fit the idea of 'being stuck in the past.' Benny super easily adopted the Chairmen as a new tribal identity and he wants to control Vegas for himself, not keep it the way it was. I guess it is a theme, an important theme, but I wouldn't call it more central than the themes of greed and the impacts of war.
>>3987441ZAX in 1 and Skynet in 2
>>3987448>Mr. House I don't think fits that too well. He does mention Vegas's former glory a bit, but his focus is more on the future. It's the same future he was pursuing before the war though. It no longer makes sense. He's talking about building a tech sector and he has no society to build it in. He's just paying a bunch of tribals and vault dwellers to play act Americans, but they all see themselves as separate peoples. There's no ruling class culture and he has no successors. He would see this as a serious problem if he were living in the present.>other factionsThey can't afford to live in the past to the extent House and the brain jars do. A story doesn't have to constantly beat you over the head with its central theme for it to be the central theme. New Vegas does that a fair amount though. Most RPGs never say what theirs is directly.
>>3982248>50s envisioning of the futureRetrofuturism.
>>3987471I haven't played much of 1 so I didn't know for sure.I guess sentient AI is a very consistant thing across the games. From those you mentioned in 1 and 2, to Eden in 3, to Codworth and the Synths in 4.But still the way it's done in OWB bothers me.
>>3987472I still think the main theme of New Vegas is moreso political philosophy, greed, and the realities of war. But yeah the idea of being stuck in the past is pretty prevalent across the main game, and the major factor for 3 out of 4 dlcs.Honest Hearts is more unusual in that way since, thematically, it's about faith and whether there can be a morality to war and fighting.
>>3982384Same. The whole concept of standalone mini-worlds in an open world game is basically retarded. The only one of these things that I found remotely worthwhile, was Broken Steel, and that's because it was a continuation of the main plot. Also because blowing up BoS to absolute fuck was particularly rewarding.
>>3987677>But still the way it's done in OWB bothers me.it shouldn't because the sink appliances are repeatedly and very explicitly stated to not be sentient. They're simulated personalities. It's a clubhouse full of BonziBuddies of different psychosis. They're a bit obnoxious, but they're not real AI.
>>3979277Faggot
>>3982248>describes fallout's dystopian sci-fi elements and themes >bitches like a faggotWow almost like its the specific science fiction dlc emphasis. How dare it not be like the low tech wild west Honest Hearts or nightmare survivalism of Dead Money or the post nuclear apocalypse of Lonesome Road. >>3978625While running TTW and using the Lawbringer perk I noticed something odd. Why do the NCR soldiers I kill have lootable fingers in their inventories whereas the Legion soldiers whom I kill do not drop fingers? Is the TTW team more based than I expected, or is this some compatibility quirk caused by the 150 mods I have running?
>>3990005>Fallout Frontiernot gonna play your shitty mod
>>3982248>>3982482i dont think OWB is bad. I didnt enjoy it, but i dont think its bad. I see what they were trying to do with it. Its like pure cola syrup where without any of the other elements of NV's setting its inedible, at least for me. HH was my favorite only because dead money is annoying on replays but the magic of the S.M on a first playthrough is not lost on me. LR was a fun endgame activity but i didnt really like ulysses

>>3992387>I haven't played fnv>should I?Do you like Fallout 3 and Reddit? If so, yes. If not, no.
>>3992387Yeah it's very good. Sometimes people here might bitch about it, mostly because they're RPG purists and can't fathom liking anything that has any mainstream appeal. But it's good, plenty of great quests and characters. Interesting world. Many fun guns to use.
>>3990003Everything except what Reddit was hated for in 2011.
>>3992390But I dislike both of those and I like NV
>>3991041this post motivated me to finally install and test Frontier tonight and no I am not a contrarian I'd just like to test this shitty mod out because I've heard hilarious things>>3990005Checked. How compatible is Frontier with Robco Certified? Can I build robot armies with the bots I kill up north? Will Robco Certified even recognize Robotic enemies from Frontier?>>3992387If it is free, sure. FNV is a great RPG offering a massive sense of choice and player-freedom. Especially if you mod that way you can write the rules of your game! Keep in mind many mods require all 4 DLCs. All in all I wouldn't say FNV is worth paying for but is certainly worth a shot if it is free alongside a free copy of FO3 with all associated free DLCs because if you truly seek the "Complete FNV Experience" the game is best played with TTW (The Tales of The 2 Wastelands) installed which combines FO3 and FNV into one game which obviously makes TTW the most based way to rim FNV!
>>3992623>Will Robco Certified even recognize Robotic enemies from Frontier?Does it check if an NPC is tagged as a robot or does it pull from a premade list of robot NPC types?
>>3984152this, Gun Runners is a buzzkill on two fronts, because it loudly tells me something is DLC, and said DLC weapons are hilariously out of place with the majority of vendors in the game.

Now I understand why it always felt 'off' to me... well, that and the fucking samurai that time travels. Extremely corny, even for Fallout. Might've worked if that samurai's corpse was a rare encounter in 1 or 2, but a fully voiced, alive samurai with a 3D render? No thanks.>>3987446>Point LookoutFucking GOATed expansion. >>3994924>talking deathclawsDid that happen in 2? I can't quite remember.Man, for as much as the map, exploration and QOL was improved in 2, the writing and constant encounters with overpowered enemies really set it far below 1 and New Vegas for me.On a side note, has anyone else played Fallout 1 with the Fixt mod and had a problem with their cursor disappearing while in dialogue or something like that? Can't remember exactly what the glitch was but it stopped me from enjoying a second playthrough of the game.
>>3995501>fallout 2Yeah the story and writing is a mess, but the enemies shouldn't really be an issue once you get a few levels and have a decent builds. Just never get close to any enemy with a flame thrower or fire attack unless you have PA.
>>3995602>decent buildWhat would you recommend?>PAWhat's that, again?
>>3995501>Fallout 1 with the Fixt modI would recommend Et Tu these days. Enjoy the QoL improvement of Fallout 2 while playing the original.
>>3995618Take the Gifted trait ,get 8 luck(you can get a +2 increase in the game) ,8 or 10 Agility, 7 Perception(you can get +1 from an implant), 9-10 Intelligence(you can get an implant but that relatively late),4 Strength(you get 4 from PA and can get +1 from an implant) and put whatever you have left in Charisma and Endurance since they don't matter. Perks you should take are Better Criticals,Bonus Rate of Fire ,Action Boy and Sniper. If you want to use burst weapons you should take Fast Shot,Better Ranged Damage and Living Anatomy as well. They don't do that much for targeted shot builds, but the damage increase is per bullet so with a minigun it can stack nicely. Small Guns is better for the early game and if you want to use Energy weapons or Big Guns later you can take Tag.>PAPower Armor.

>>3978625well dead money was my favorite for sure but the dlc was mostly kind of trash anyway
>>4002118If you're not using mods, you want to buy a weapon named "Greased Lightning" from the BOS bunker. For best use you want 10 Strength, 100 Unarmed, the Super Slam Perk, the Slayer Perk, and the Piercing Strike Perk. Imo best build for fighter type charactersIf you're using mods, you want Robco Certified. Make sure you have have 10 Charisma, as it'll drastically increase the powerlevels of your robotic followers. And take the Robot Wrangler Perk (Rank 3) so you can control 12 robots instead of 2. You'll also need the Mad Scientist PhD Perk (Rank 2) so you can spawn up to 12 Cyber-Roach Minions (significantly more powerful than a standard Rad-Roach) whenever you wish at no cost whatsoever from your Pipboy3000. Finally add in the Gone Fission Perk, that way you can loot Fission Batteries and Robotic Spare Parts from your Cyber-Roach Minions granting you an unlimited supply of caps and important tools while wielding the super powers of both the Antagonizer and the Mechanist simultaneously. Imo best build for scientist type characters
>>4002414what if i were playing unmodded and wanted to do the gunslinger thing?
>>4002448Agility and Luck affect guns and crits respectively. There are plenty of perks like Cowboy that give direct % buffs to gun damage, accuracy, etc. Be careful with traits, I think the trigger discipline one is a trap and built to destroy requires you also become a repairman. All you need to decide is what kind of guns you prefer to sling, and therefore what perks to prepare for. The only gotcha is something like Sniper, which also requires Perception.
