This is just a dumbed down version of Divinity Original Sin 1&2. Why do people worship this game?
>>3978811Because you're a dumb basic bitch contrarian
>>3978811>Why do people worship this game?Good graphics and full voice acting.
>>3978811>Bait threadBecause it’s a good RPG game with a well-written plot
>>3978811True and even DoS2 was already pretty simplified compared to something like say... pathfinder. If you ask me BG3 differential is on the production values (obviously) and roleplaying. They went above and beyond when it comes to freedom to solve any given situation even accounting for not wanting to take sides or still wanting to recruit this or that character but without doing the obvious thing needed to do so. That´s real choice.
>>3978886>a good RPG game with a well-written plotBait post.
>>3978930how so? it's popular for a reason
>>3978939>how so? it's popular for a reasonThe plot and the writing are some of the worst things about the game. Praising BG3 for the plot and writing is like praising a late 80s text adventure game for its graphics.
>>3978811reddit loves d&d
>>3978949Name a game with better plot and writing that isnt BG1, BG2 or PST. Go on, I'll wait here until death.
>>3978811Polished rpg, 3 years for ea and rushed the rest.
How hard is it to program your party to not run into your own cloud of daggers after a fight? My souvereign Glut just died during the drow dialogue after killing the spectator because he just chilled inside the daggers.
>>3979082Summons were added late and aren't intelligent at all. I'd liked permanent pets more, but the sandbox design contradicts it.
>>3979166My companions run into the daggers all the time as well.
>>3978811You can only play an RPG so many times before you can do it blindfolded.
>>3978811>traumadumping and doting attentionThis appeals to the attentionstarved and lonely faggot, also women
>>3978836It's worse than that. It's full voice acting with all dialogue cinematically animated. This makes dialogue even slower, because animators always make shit go slow. Unvoiced textboxes are preferable; at least you can imagine better voices too.
>>3979167Summoned companions are suicidal. Cloud of daggers is actually pretty op.
>>3979213>Summoned companions are suicidalAll enemies are suicidal. They will continually charge into AoE spells like spirit guardians even if it will one-shot them. Larian took all the EA money and was too busy adding non-binary feminine penises and vitiligo sliders to add AI.
>>3979215Don't forget they fucked up two games while making bg3. I'm certain they will fail to release two games this time, too. They are pretty bad at planning. No wonder, all the old staff leads the company, so that's that. Just a shame that kirill died early.
Is BG3 worth it for the gameplay? Not a fan of 'modern writing' in general, but I'd be willing to put up with it if it's fun to play.

By actually attempting to port non-combat DnD shit in more than just skill checks I immediately have a higher opinion of it than a lot of other RPGs
>>3979404>By actually attempting to port non-combat DnD shit in more than just skill checksLike what?
>>3979410Disguise, all the mobility shit like jump/fly/teleport, performance for distracting people, throwing, speak with the dead, animal communication, etc. A lot of those are purely just combat, skill checks, or outright ignored in other games. If you're lucky maybe only used for some gimmick puzzle or treasure hunt, rather than something that can actually be used to get past something important. A RPG that actually accommodates that is rare
>>3979418>speak with the dead>i..>was...>... Quest...>he...>... After all...Whoa, so awesome
Did they """fix""" this method of doing Grym? https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=CCZ2iLJBD6sI tried to do it and it didn't seem to work. Like he would stand on the lava with both feet and not get the superheated buff if a sliver of his hitbox was under the hammer. Felt more buggy than being able to cheese him, especially considering the fight is completely retarded.
>>3979687That looks like it requires pretty specific placement. If you want to cheese it you should go big or go home with exploits by dive bombing him as an owlbear or something from way up high instead (assuming that still works anyway)
>>3979690I tried the owlbear thing but without looking up how to do it and fucked it up (apparently you have to crouch before jumping for whatever reason). Guess I'm gonna play up to that point again, because if you don't cheese it the fight is just retarded.
>>3979691The fight really isn't hard even on Honor. The construct acts as predictably as possible. The biggest monkey wrench I find is just the mephits if they land heat metal too many times, but the video you apparently already watched gave a solution for those. It's also not a bad time to use the rune powder if you saved it.
>>3979693How do I get him into the middle of the room when he crosses the entire room in one turn though? I don't have the rune powder, but sure, you can cheese any fight in the game with bombs if you want to I guess, but that doesn't make it less stupid (used the ones I randomly got in the landshark because that one is also retarded on honor mode if you don't have a very specific set up prepared).
>>3979695I don't recall him moving so far that it was a problem. If you line someone up standing on the mold box like that video he will stop in front of them in any case so long as he wasn't already lured somewhere else. Really though you don't actually need to use the middle of the room. A melee guy with a blunt weapon can do a lot of damage so long as you keep him super heated.
>>3979699I guess putting someone on the mold and then reviving them repeatedly when he kills them is the best way, just in my attempt the failed cheeses put me in a position where I couldn't really do much anymore (mephrits were running around fully killing my guys while the haste pots stunned my party). If you don't let him hit you on the mold he does run all the way from one end of the room to the other though.
>>3979705Oh I bet I know what it was. Do you have any battlemasters or some other method of knocking him prone? That's usually my opening move before sending the other melee guys in for the advantage, but that would also cut his movement in half. If at the end of a turn of that you had someone across the field lure him he would only be able to read the press.
>>3978811crpgs should elevate ttrpgs, not try to realize them as correctly as possible, ttrpg gameplay isn't even that good without a gm. They are narrative vehicles whose goodness and badness are decided by the characters, setting, prose and plot first, systems second, and those systems are better if they're using math that are impossible and more dynamic than those used on a table with dice and paper. being a dumbed down div2 is not necessarily bad. now, incidentally, bg3 is still a very mediocre game, but the idea that a crpg shouldn't be popular because it's simplistic makes no sense, the combat is just a bit of flavor, it's not the meat of the game, never will be no matter how much larpy boomers insist that rpgs should be what it was in first edition dnd.
>>3979749>not try to realize them as correctly as possibleRuined the game. Bg3 could set the bar for 25 yrs to come
>>3979759>Bg3 could set the bar for 25 yrs to comeBG3 didn’t do anything special besides having a big budget and high production values and a guerilla marketing campaign. Quirk chungus Tumblr writing has broad appeal among the low IQ and it's baby's first real RPG. Most BG3 fans standards were set by bad console action RPGs. If you haven't actually played an RPG before, it seems amazing.
>>3979267No. Combat gameplay is very bad There are no simultaneous turns and animations are loooooooooong, so combat takes forever. Combat AI is extremely bad and limited to enemies rushing at you and sometimes using special abilities. It's like a tactics game tacked on, but without any tactics.RP aspects range from very good, to moderately badly written, to choosing between two ultimately very retarded options that your character wouldn't actually do, and this damages the story. There's practically no reason to side against the druids in the early game unless your character is stupid evil, for example.

>>3986264You dug up an old-ass post buried midway in the thread just to make an effeminate quip?

Acts 2 and 3 steadily degraded in performance until act 3 was averaging 60 fps with lows of 30 just like BG1!. There was some YouTube faggot with a prerelease copy and on a 4090 he was getting 20 FPS lows in act 3.
>>3978811DOS1+2 were slop. BG3 so far is Larian's only decent game.
>>3979019Skyrim has a better plot than BG3 and that's really saying something.
>>3978811I'm on my first playthrough and currently near the end of Act 1, I'm enjoying it so far.
>>3987612Act 1 is by far the best imo.
>>3987559What made Skyrim's plot better than BG3?
>>3987476>202X>playing games at launchThat's your mistake.Infinity engine games are great in that the game speed itself is tied to the framerate. It defaults to under 30fps and locks there, you asshole. You want to open up the launcher and manually set framerate higher so you can speed up that slow ass game - which is where rtwp shines; just set your desired autopause parameters and you can turbo through like a wasp on the hunt
>>3988883Act 3 has all the cool quests and content. So much variation. There's even an ancient mummy quest.
>>3988892It didn't interfere with your enjoyment of the game; you weren't forced to engage with it to access almost everything in the game (except muh powers)And a plot that doesn't rush you or force you to engage with it, in an open world, is a good plot.
>>3988896Yet by the time you reach act3 you have so much Larian fatigue that you barely want to engage with them, plus all the fetch-back-and-forth that is typical RPG-city gameplay is never all that fun

>>3988896I struggled with the lack of progression in act 3 once you hit max level.
>>3988900>it's actually your own fault that we made a shitty game
>>3988895>That's your mistake. It’s Larians mistake for making a shitty game and rushing an unfinished pile of garbage to market and then lying about it. It was pretty good in initial early access years before full release, yet they managed to fag everything up and devolve the game through years of development.>It defaults to under 30fps and locks there, you asshole.Yes, that was precisely why I mentioned that, you idiot.
>>3988897So what made the plot of Skyrim better is that you didn't have to engage with it? Idk if that's genuinely a win. Plus it's worth noting that BG3 was not intended to be a totally open-world game in the traditional sense. Seems you're grading more on gameplay than the plot itself. Usually when comparing plots people examine story elements, characters, settings, etc. and not the gameplay. Which isn't to say we can't discuss gameplay.
>>3988961>Usually when comparing plots people examine story elements, characters, settings, etc.NTASkyrim was mediocre in these elementsBG3 was atrocious and awful in these elementsErgo, Skyrim is less bad
>>3988963Nigger, are you capable of saying anything beyond X is worse than Y? What makes it better or worse? Was it queers like Astarion? You don't have to have him in your party, my very first run through I immediately killed him with a stake. Main character almost immediately dead. Skyrim was the second ES game where they included invincible characters. So there's less freedom story-wise in Skyrim.
>>3988968>What makes it better or worse? Was it queers like Astarion?Astarion is no more of a faggot than every other male companion in the game (they're all faggots)BG3's plot was rewritten multiple times into utter nonsense, culminating in someone has to become a mindflayer because, just, because, they do, okay. The Emperor, despite rebelling against the brain, will gladly side with the brain against you if you free Orpheus, and Orpheus will gladly turn into a mindflayer, his hated enemy. It's full of absurd plot holes, like Raphael is just hanging around for 90% of the game doing nothing, when he was originally intended to offer a bargain to remove the parasite.BG3's characters are some of the most unlikeable and retarded in any cRPG I can think of. They were also repeatedly rewritten. All were originally evil and edgy cunts. Larian lied and said there was a full roster of good companions, with the evil frontloaded during EA to encourage playtesting, but we had the whole crew already, and they just quietly rewrote them all to be boring focus grouped playersexuals.BG3 has extremely cringe basedlennial leftoid writing, which is insufferable and immediately immersion-breaking in a fantasy setting. The game begins Marvel quipping at you in the nautiloid. The devs use the game as a platform to project their personal political opinions onto the source material. Game is full of trannies and constantly harping about muh rapefugees and xenophobia and squirrel communism, and now 50% every race is black.>So there's less freedom story-wise in SkyrimBG3 is the most insultingly railroaded cRPG I can think of, not from lack of choices, but precisely because it offers false choices, which the game will promptly discard and ignore. On multiple occasions the DM will flip the table and give you a game over, or forcibly teleport you, or teleport characters to you in absurd cutscenes. Why even offer a choice, only for the flowchart to loop to "But thou must!"?
>>3985371>he wouldn't fuck flayerassPussy.
>>3988978>They're all faggotsAstarion is particularly faggoty. Calling all the male characters faggots because they all have the potential to be romanced is retarded. Funnily enough, most of the male characters are only fags if YOU are a fag and I gotta say anon, not looking good.>the "nonsense"It's not nonsense to say controlling a particular thing requires psionic processes that are beyond the average mortal mind and requires a being within the ecosystem of the BBEG. That's not "because they just do, okay" you're just retarded.>OrpheusIt's the noble sacrifice. Take on an action that's unthinkable to save your people. This kind of decision is littered throughout fiction. Once again, you're retarded.>RaphaelCould it be that, not unlike every character who is initially confident in removing the parasite (the hag for example) that Raphael realizes he can't do it? Devils in this universe are LAWFUL evil. Will they find loopholes and fuck arounds? Yes, unquestionably, but they don't make bargains for items they can't deliver.>Mad about rewritesHow can you be made about something that never did and doesn't exist? >Devs projectingDevs have always projected, they are admittedly cringier about it in the modern day and this isn't me defending all of their politics but it's a consistent thing all the way back to fucking Gygax>Full of tranniesIdk about full but for the ones that do exist, valid complaint.>Blackening of racesAlso a valid complaint>RailroadedHow tf is a game over the DM flipping the table? If you make a suicidal choice or something that leads to all the characters dying why wouldn't the game be over? You realize that's always happened in DnD, right? Every cRPG from Fallout to Planescape has used bottlenecks. It's simply a requirement of a the medium not unlike a choose your own adventure novel. Nobody is going to write a book that encompasses all potential choices for all things everywhere. That's a retarded ask.
>>3988978>Basedlennial writingAlso, I'll agree that a chunk of the writing from a number of queers and women is cringe as shit in areas but if you're a boomer or an Xer (the gens that put those people into positions to write) and you're still on 4chan then you simply must commit seppuku. There's no other way to retain your honor.
>>3988978Imo one of the worst things is how at the end of act 2 it's revealed the chosen of the dead three are behind everything, but then literally at the start of act 3 they become practically pointless minibosses and replaced with a big brain that's not even a character or anything. Also retconning everything that happened into being planned by said brain, even when it makes no sense.
BG3 is very similar to ME2 I think. The main plot is weak but the side plots are all excellent. Great voice acting and very high production values, presented in a very cinematic way. I think ME2 was the BG3 of its era. But on top of that, BG3 has the biggest reactivity (cornerstone of a role-playing game) of any 3D RPG that isn't boring isometric readathons like Pathfinder (if I want to read everything, why play a video game? I have books)
>>3989312>BG3 is very similar to ME2 I think. The main plot is weak but the side plots are all excellent. Great voice acting and very high production values, presented in a very cinematic way. I think ME2 was the BG3 of its era. This is actually really funny since when ME2 was new I pretty much considered it a spiritual brother to Baldur's Gate 2 where the vast majority of content was spent around gathering your party / raising your funds instead of doing the main quest.

>>3978887Owlcat's "production values" aren't bad. They just don't have literally hundreds of millions of dollars to throw away so you can see trillion-poly titties.
>>3989915>you're at odds with realityNTA. You are a completely delusional fanboy. Even people who like BG3 acknowledge that act 1 (which received years of early access feedback and polish) is by far the best part of the game, and is the most complete and most optimized. Act 2 is meh and act 3 is a dumpster fire, full of the scars of cut content (they literally cut half of the city, the upper city, and then crammed what was finished into random corners of the lower city, like Cazador's mansion being up on top of a fucking guard tower on a wall) and unfinished quests (like how Karlach's quest was unfinished and incompletable at launch).DOS2 had the same problem (act 1 and act 2 were the best parts of the game, act 3 was alright, act 4 was broken and unfinished), except the difference there is that Larian spent a long time post-release patching and finishing much of what was cut and broken from act 4, and doing a soft rerelease of the revamped game as the "definitive edition". By contrast, BG3 got virtually no post-launch support, there was a handful of patches that added and fixed very little, and by and large Larian took their giant pile of money and ran, dropping the game as-is.
>>3978811People often say that voice acting is the reason and its probably true to some extent but it can't be the sole reason. Its not like fully voice acted games are a recent development when games like KOTOR2 exist which admitedly doesn't have a voice acted narrator but still.
>>3991709Voice acting certainly helped, plus high production values in general like fully motion captured animations, and a very successful marketing campaign.

>>3979267There are better RPGs that have much quicker combat that don't intend to waste your time. If you want simultaneous turns and quick combat I recommend the Pathfinder games but I personally just couldn't get into them.
>>3989929You're confusing your schizophrenic delusions for reality again. BG3 got 8 major patches, including new subclasses for every class, new endings, an expanded epilogue and more interactions with companions. You're a brain damaged ape.
>>3992643>BG3 got 8 major patchesAfter the game's dismal launch, I put it down for like a year and a half to give them a chance to put out the "it's finally done" last patch, before attempting to replay it (because I still wanted to like the game, and was willing to give the devs a second chance). It was the same damn game. They didn't actually do shit to improve it or attempt to restore any of the shit they'd cut or to improve the final act (as they had eventually done with DOS2). It was all totally superficial nonsense bullshit changes that didn't fundamentally address any of the issues with the game.Shilling like this just makes you look like a dishonest retard who is incapable of engaging in a honest discussion about the game. I'd say that you were getting paid to lie here, but you're likely doing it for free, which is even more embarrassing and pathetic.
>>3978811>dumbed downThe Fuck? BG3 objectively has more depth into its RPG systems.Larger enemy variety, more classes, more spells, more abilities, more unique items, better level design, better difficulty mode, better quest design, way more choices and unique dialogue, actual alternative origin class, better character/party interactions, more balanced and thoughout combat.Just overall a complete improvement over DOS2.DOS2 = 9BG3 = 10+I mean both games are great, Larian game design is A+
