Tell me your favourite first person RPGs and recommend some more to others. Preferably discuss more forgotten and "indie" games. I don't want another bethesda or cp77 thread
Why don't you recommend me one?The only 1st person rpg I've ever played were KCD and Elder Scrolls.
>>3980728I made the image. Those are my recommendations
Tainted Grail Fall of Avalon was The last one released that I know of that is moderately sized and not a complete joke.(I really hope some retarded publisher doesn't end up buying them out and forcing them to make a higher budget, gayer, elder scrolls-type game though. The steady sales and way so many publishers/devs seem to fear to fund them or completely fail at games like this has to have had corporate Jews taking notice.)
>>3980757This one has been on my radar before it came out recently but i haven't gotten around to playing it.Is it any good from a normal person standpoint? I see purists seethe over it on this board and also skyrim fans complaining it isnt skyrim enough
>>3980723The genuine FPP RPGs (not blobbers) are flawed, the very concept of it is wrong. Mixing the FPS mechanics with abstract rules of the RPG system never works well.
>>3980763Yeah, I just wouldn't go into it expecting Skyrim or Dark Souls, or whatever clickbait influencers are trying to label it as, and just enjoy it for what it is. It has things in common with both and it is impressive what they accomplished, but it's clearly not AAA.They seem to put out patches and stuff every few weeks, with no sign of slowing down, so who knows how big the game will get or how polished they can get everything by the time they stop though.
For a DS game I thought Warlock of Firetop Mountain was pretty great, I played through it several times with different builds.
>>3980723STALKER?
>>3980892Unironically not an RPG also it’s S.T.A.L.K.E.R. you plebeian
>>3980756I think I just burned out from gaming. It took my one month to finish KCD 2.Nothing interests me anymore after this.
vtmb is the best rpg period. >>3980757it's such a shame that the writers couldn't really diversify the way they write quests so it feels really painful at the end. they love mysterious faux profound characters.but it's an undersaturated genre so I still enjoyed it. the aesthetic in act 3 is also way weaker.
>>3980728>The only 1st person rpg I've ever played were KCD4chan is an 18+ website.
>>3980823Idk i find that it can be really fun most of the time. I think they can be comfy
>>3980872Might pick it up soon enough desu
>>3981352KCD was released 8 years ago
>>3980900ok Moraff's World.and Dungeon Hack...>notice Wizardry in OP. >>3980723why didn't you play Cybermage, OPnon?
Arx was solid minus the atrocious final boss. It felt more like an RPG/Point & Click than a full-blown RPG. If you enjoy dungeon crawling & solving puzzles, I recommend it.
>>3980723V:tMB, games like Mankind Divided, Prey, Ultima Underworld, Arx Fatalis have rpg elements>>3980823shut the fuck up
>>3980823>Mixing the FPS mechanics It's the contrary. First person RPGs were made before first person shooters.
>>3980823They are flawed because everybody copies fallout 3 and you get shit shooting regardless of skills but it is more interesting than purely using vats.Nobody copies deus ex in fusing skills with aiming/weapon handling.
>>3980823>The genuine FPP RPGs (not blobbers) are flawed, the very concept of it is wrong. How they've been done and how people end up playing them might be flawed, but not wrong.
>>3983196>everybody copies fallout 3 and you get shit shooting regardless of skills>Nobody copies deus ex in fusing skills with aiming/weapon handling.Anon, I… that’s exactly what fo3 did. It’s just that FO3 used the same janky engine they’ve used since Morrowind while Deus Ex used Unreal, a proper shooter engine.
>>3983146Great game
>>3982239No way Moraff's World is the first thing that crosses your mind when talking about first person RPGs
>>3982239I had no idea cybermage even existed. It’s practically abandonware
>>3983634>I had no idea cybermage even existedI don't think I've heard that name since reading the review in Computer Gaming World in whatever year it came out
>>3983633>Moraff's World is the first thing that crosses your mind when talking about first person RPGsyes it is.... after Death Watch. but that indie shareware sucked more IMO. so Moraff's World it is!
>>3983634>no idea cybermage even existed. It’s practically abandonwareblame EA and Origin. it could have early 1990s Cyberpunk.
>>3983146>RPG/Point & Click than a full-blown RPG. If you enjoy dungeon crawling & solving puzzles, I recommend it.Play Legacy and Waxworks. the combat is even worse in those games! RE dung-crawling before RE existed.
>>3983665There are many things you can blame EA for lolIll add this to the list
>>3983667RE? You have a very niche taste I am not sure what this is referring to
>>3983854
>>3983878>>3983854yes, Resident Evil is a survivor action-RPG. it's not first-person though, unless opening doors count. or the NDS remake where you got parts where you slash zombies with a knife in first-person view.
>>3984035I guess it can be counted as an RPG the same way some people count system shock 2 as survival horror. I actually only played RE4 so in wondering if could you highlight for me the RPG elements of this game? My friend has been trying to get me to try RE1 so this might be what i need to hear lol
>>3984230>My friend has been trying to get me to try RE1 so this might be what i need to hear lolyes if you rike survivor RPGs and such. i don't . so i hate it.
>>3984230Why would RE be an RPG?
>>3983667What year did Legacy come out? I'm trying to look it up. Waxworks looks cool. Thanks for the rec.
>>3985631It’s a game and you play the roles of Jill and Chris
>>3980723I liked FO3/NV/Skyrim, but the best I've played are Deus Ex and Prey 2017. They're just more interesting than standard games. System Shock 2 was also really good. I still need to play the original SS, Underworld, and some older games (like Krynn I think has dungeon crawling). Wizardy, Might & Magic, Eye of the Beholder etc. don't interest me so much.
>>3985631inventory management, interactions with NPCs and environs, puzzles, and pseudo dungeon crawling in a house.
>>3985632i keep forgetting the full name for Legacy...> https://www.mobygames.com/game/697/the-legacy-realm-of-terror/it's "THE Legacy: Realm of Terror". basically another Cthulu /Elder gods kinda horror game.hmmm it's on GOG n steam now. but you probably should just emulate it yourself. because GOG always seems to screw up their DosBox settings more often than not, and hide the files in an ISO "game" file now, or some weird tinkering to make DosBox work with their Galaxy client.> https://www.gog.com/en/game/the_legacy_realm_of_terror
>>3985938>>3983667These look fun, I appreciate the recs
>>3980763Played the demo. It's plenty Skyrim, but grimmer and darker. Lore seems like it might be a little convoluted though.
If you guys haven't played Ultima Underworld, I highly recommend. There was a unity port that some oldfag just released after 10 years in development. Use a guide if you do end up playing, there are quite a few ways to get hard locked from completing it.
>>3985923If you like Bethesda RPGs you should try boiling point road to hell. The game was insanely ambitious for it’s time and has crazy amount of features.
>>3986013Played the first one but havent finished it. The lack of mouse look is really killing me so I might have to fall on my knees and get the unity port of the game
>>3980823Shooters didn't come out until decades after first-person RPGs, anon. You're fucking ignorant as fucking fuck and we all just watched you make a goddamn fool of yourself.
>>3986457>Shooters didn't come out until decades after first-person RPGsNTA. Name three widely popular first-person RPGs (no, some tech demo on a mainframe in the 70s that three ur-nerds played doesn’t count) that precede widely popular first-person shooters by literal “decades”. I’d reckon that FPS games took off in what, ‘91 or ‘92? So we are looking at 1971-1972.I’ll wait.
>>3986341Get the mouselook mod silly goose. I still prefer the old jank graphics over the Unity ones.
>>3980757Dude Tainted Grail's 3rd act (or map if you will) is so unfinished and rushed you can tell it suffers from early access slop syndrome; lots of polish at the start and it just turns to shit and falls apart halfway through
>>3986484Wasnt aware of that. I will be getting that immediately as the game’s graphics are right up my alley. Wasnt aware unity mod changes graphics a lot (i dont know much about it only saw it once lol)
>>3986523>3rd act (or map if you will) is so unfinished and rushed you can tell it suffers from early access slop syndrome; lots of polish at the start and it just turns to shit and falls apart halfway throughBut when BG3 did it, it was “raising the bar for cRPGs”
>>3986480not decades for sure.Akalabeth: World of Doom , by the father of RPGs Lord British the kekstarter grifter. 1979. that's as old as it gets. basic bitch stickmen.Id Software programmer John Carmack has stated that the engine for Wolfenstein 3D was inspired by a technology demo of Ultima Underworld. but both games were released in same year, 1992.and Carmack did make Catacombs-3D so that might not count.Dungeon Master was released on December 15, 1987. that was basically the first DnD first person game?
>>3986013>There was a unity port that some oldfag just released after 10 years in developmentlooks terrible and Unity betrayed indie devs. deadass engine. all the Unity games seem to be unoptimised shit anyway, not any worse than Unreal asset flips but whatever.
>>3986624>deadass enginefr fr
>>3980723Cyberpunk 2077
>>3986624I thought daggerfall unity didn't look too bad. Of course if I was to play daggerfall, which i plan on doing at some point, I will be playing the original version. Also, fuckin hell I didn't realise how fucking terrible the unity version looks lmao. This looks like a kids game
>>3986871>slug looks like slug>sword looks like a black dildo.wow 10 yrs of hard work!
>>3987140I think the new art style looks abysmal and then throwing in a “realistic” looking slug in there just fucks up the art style so bad
>>3980763>>3981221>>3986523Just saw this today. I wonder how long they're gonna keep working on this thing.https://store.steampowered.com/news/app/1466060/view/668365445444667230?snr=1_5_9_
I have some wishlisted stuff:>this one has a funny trailer:https://store.steampowered.com/app/3849000/The_Lantern_of_the_Laughless_Saint/>this one has the graphics from that one thread that keeps getting spammed about "why doesn't any game look like this?":https://store.steampowered.com/app/3970690/Project_Shadowglass/>this one looks like Filcher but more advanced:https://store.steampowered.com/app/3674590/Noirmancer/>this one is just a thief clone. made by a guy who I think got shanghaied into working on Gloomwoodhttps://store.steampowered.com/app/2642850/Serpens_Eternal_Thievery/>this one is a deus-ex clone but the story is 2020s schizophrenic instead of 1990s schizophrenic. also its releasing in only a couple weeks:https://store.steampowered.com/app/2530250/PARKSIDE_DECAYED_SOUL_MANIPULATION/
>>3980823>The genuine FPP RPGs (not blobbers) are flawed, the very concept of it is wrong. Mixing the FPS mechanics with abstract rules of the RPG system never works well.Naeh that's bullshit.
>>3990661We are eating good GODDAMN! That deus ex clone looks insane. All good recommendations
