> Literally just Earthbound but Action-Adventure/Mana-Like> No cult following> No bunch of quirky indie games based around it> No nothingwhy?
>>3988430it's not a very good game, but early Jeremy Soule is kinohttps://www.youtube.com/watch?v=iF0i55epJuY
>>3988465Absolute unique game. If I had the time I would instantly make a similiar game. Seeds of nostalgia scored 500k for a mediocre snes clone. The market is there.>pirates>puppets>the marketGreat songs, great scena8.
It's just a worse version of Secret of Mana that's too drenched in 90's-American irony to ever take its own premise seriously, is the main issue for me, and I love this game.
>>3988482Wow! Is that really you? You've changed. Hmmm... If you're really my dog, you'll fetch this stick.
>>3988430>Literally just Earthbound but Action-Adventure/Mana-LikeI really like Secret of Evermore and have a lot of fondness for it but it's not really anything like Earthbound. It's a lot more tongue in and cheeks and the modern setting isn't anywhere near as important as it is in EB.>>3988482Better*
>>3988430It's not really a game that can be compared to anything else, except Mana regarding mechanics, but the tone couldn't be more different.I don't see the Earthbound similarity, and i mean it as a compliment.
>>3988430>implying other games have anything either.
>>3988430It's a unique game with some flaws but overall very enjoyable.Great soundtrack too.
>>3988430I could never get in to this game. Tried many times. Farming for trade materials is fine, but also needing them for spells is dumb as fuck. Also the jungle is boring as fuck, which sucks because its right at the beginning of the game.

I only had access to a Spanish rom of this as a kid in the dial-up era so I had no damn idea what was happening
>>3993033>I only had access to a Spanish rom of this as a kid in the dial-up eraFunny way to say you were too retarded to find an english one
>>3988646>>3988469>Absolute unique gameWonder why, isn't it basically isekai?
>>3994473>isn't it basically isekai? It is. But not for you. You're an intruder to other people's isekai fantasies.
>>3994556Pretty decent spin ngl
>>3988430>why?Maybe because the second half of the game is endless shitty mazes and annoying combat where every enemy knocks you back when you so much as look at it
>>3995105Utopia or what's it called is 100% unfinished. Sadly. Should've been the best part.
>>3988430> No nothing> why?Because it wasted game development time trying to be more scary and creepy than nostalgic and funny. I remember reading somewhere that the story was written by competition winner who went on to be a horror novelist than thrown out mid development because it was too dark for Squaresoft Japan. Still, the sad and creepy suspenseful music and dark art assets remained, because the story was being rewritten on the fly as those things were already slated to be made by the art and sound teams. And they weren't going to just lay people off while they figured their shit out. It's accused of being a live action Earthbound, but it's doing that in opposition to everything else in the game. There's only a few funny quips in the game and the boy and dog are the only parts of the game that are consistently light-hearted throughout.I think if everyone on staff had a copy of Earthbound and were told to make a live action Earthbound and were required to beat it by the end of the dev cycle, the game would have turned out 10 times better.
>>3993024>>3989863I also owned and beat the game as a kid, but going back and hacking in infinite ingredients was cathartic - it made the game top easy to take seriously but was a joy to play for a few hours.
