Etrian oddysy is genuinely the most “early 2000’s rpg” in my eyes, the music sound font is weird but mesmerizing, the combat system and location design is chefs kiss and it’s fun gameplay loop just makes it so mesmerizing! What game do you think of when early 2000’s rpg come to mind?

>>3990707>>3990718>>3990720The EO games barely have any story to begin with, you'll find a lot of people that prefer the originals, but I think the Untold games (in classic mode) are vastly superior because they have the benefit of Atlus refining the mechanics over the years, the combat calculations in the original EO1 in particular are a fucking travesty, similar to SMT5 where level is way more influential than any individual stat, so you're forced to grind levels or abuse absurdly broken damage reduction skills if you don't want to get oneshot by bossesIn Untold it's far more like the later games where you have a decent variety of strats available. People hate the Grimoire system, but it's not that important unless you want to tackle postgame stuff imo
