It's really easy to abuse the crafting and weapon fusion system though if you know what you're doing
>>3989637>game is easy if you know what you're doing
It's fine, but seven and viii are very similar and slightly better so celceta gets overlooked. Dawn of Ys is also a superior "ys iv", not that that matters
>>3989689I've played both Dawn of Ys and Seven to completion and I think Celceta is better than both
>>3989693One caveat though, the story and music in Dawn of Ys is better than Celceta. Really can't stand the power of friends anime bullshit in later Ys games.
It's pretty bland even for an Ys game
>>3989637nah it's shitdesperately needed a jump button and light platforming elements, same with Seven
>>3989637>game is easy and ugly>story ends abruptly with literally no endingI guess it's good because anime waifus or some shit? Weebs always have such low standards.
>>3989637It's a significantly worse game than 7 despite using the same systems and of 7-4-8-9 4 is easily the worst, so no, it's not underrated at all. It's also ugly as shit.
>>3989637there was weapon fusion?
>>3989637It's over-rated, by the virtue of (You) rating it.It's a parry/roll slop with mediocre graphics. There is nothing praiseworthy which the game has to offer.Ys peaked with origin, and became open world slop after that. Which ruined any chance for the franchise being good ever again in the future.
This will always be the peak of the series to me. The controls are surgically precise.
>>3993209Haven't really played a Ys game with bad controls. Even Napishtim's dash jump was fine when you didn't have to use it during the final boss. Felghana has some completely stupid hitboxes for sure though, even the first boss' spear attacks hit you without touching you.
>>3989637I've been stuck on the bat guy for 27 years.
>>3989637The two bad things about it is the abrupt ending and map shenanigans
Thanks for the bump, I beat this the other day. It was a little too easy on normal modo but I stand by the OP, it was a kinoge. I liked it more than Ys Seven.>>3993288What difficulty? The bosses in this game are so easy I hardly even remember. Was that the optional boss in the mines? If you're struggling at all remember this trick when fusing: buy short swords/leather armor. Fuse with materials for stat boosts. Then fuse those stat boosted short swords into your most powerful weapon at the time. You'll spend a tiny fraction of gold to basically max out all stats of your most powerful weapon. I almost recommend against this if you're playing normal because it basically broke the game.
>>3991333Yes but it's easy to miss. You can only do it at the fishing village smith. All the other smiths only upgrade weapons with mats.
Not sure why so many are complaining about the graphics, when have Ys games ever been known for graphical fidelity? Posers>>3998842The map was indeed bullshit. It's not properly programmed. You basically have to hug every wall if you want 100%. I spent hours hugging walls at the very end of the game because it was stuck at 99.6%...
Why do I still pronounce it as Yes
>>3989637It's horrible. Worst version of Ys 4.
>>3998916>Not sure why so many are complaining about the graphics, when have Ys games ever been known for graphical fidelity? PosersThere's a difference between graphics being adequate and graphics being ugly, and Celceta is the latter. It doesn't help that the new style was plain worse than the preceding games.
>>3989637>Play 1 and 2, love it >Play Origins, love it >Play Oath in Felghana, love it >Play Ys 4, expect a remake on the level of Oath>It's pure 2000 damage special attack heal in menu slop I guess exploring the map is a cool gimmick but the game is just bad
>>4000893Looks fine if you turn off the ugly bloom effect (called HDR in the settings).
>>4001273Origin, not Origins, no idea why like 80% people see the "s" when there's none. Also, stop playing in the meme timeline order, and you won't have these issues. Celceta is like a prototype for Lacrimosa, which is the best game in the series. A lot of the same mechanics and concepts, but much worse executed. If you play in release order it makes sense though.
>>4001598Yes this was basically my settings. The bloom is unbelievably ugly. Turn that shit off and it's tolerable. Thank god that trend died out.
>>3989637It's probably the worst Ys I've played, but I still had a lot of fun with it too.
Where do you guys prefer to buy the Ys games?Steam kinda makes them easier to play with a controller but GOG has true ownership and better prices.I already have some on the latter. Maybe when the rest get a discount I can complete the collection there.
>>4006655GOG
>>4006655I'm not mentally ill, so Steam.GOG has the same notice that anything you buy is a "digital license" btw. It is required by law.
>>4006655GOG all the way, and get all of them now before Falcom changes their minds and takes all their games down from there. They stopped releasing their new games on GOG.
>>4006753>>4006657Well I'm an easy man to convince. Now I just have to wait for the other three to get a discount, probably soon seeing how much time has passed. Am I missing any other game in the series on GOG aside from the ones on the wishlist?
>>4006842Don't buy base Nordics, they made a definitive edition called Proud Nordics it has bonus content and QoLApart from that, yes that's everything
>>4006842Based falcom supporter
>>4006843Oh I thought there was a problem with Proud seeing the reviews in comparison.
>>4007209the problems with Proud Nordis are:1. it was announced less than a Month after the US release of Nordics2. It's not a DLC upgrade3. something about Nordics owners on PC not getting an immediate discount for owning Proud. The timing is that so they don't get some free goodies if they get Proud Nordics before a specific timetldr, shitty business practices from Falcom
>>4007209>seeing the reviewsnext time try reading them
>>4006657>>4006753>>4006844>>4006843Got any tips to play these games with a controller?VI didn't quite read mine at all and would preferably like to play them without adding them to Steam (which fixes the problem but still)
>>4007302Falcom games usually come with a separate launcher or config.exe, try configuring the controller however you'd like there
>>4007496Yeah I noticed but it recognizes my Switch Pro Controller as just "Wireless Gamepad" and does nothing. I guess it's the Steam launcher for me.
>>4007506Oh yeah, the older games need a full XInput controller (e.g. an 8bitdo), or you can map the buttons manually, and then use Steam Input. Here's a guide for Oath in Felghana which is on the same engine, the config folder will be different, but everything else is the same:https://steamcommunity.com/app/207320/discussions/0/3155328676437257112/#c3155328676437282344Ys Origin, Oath in Felghana and Ark of Napishtim all use this engine.
>>4007704I mean I'd love to play the games with the Switch gamepad from GOG Galaxy but it's also not the end of the world if I have to add the exe to Steam to play. When I do that the controller just works without me having to do anything else.I'll see if I can get that to work, thanks anon.
>>3989637I want to get into ys series what games should I start from?
>>4008852Doesn't matter, play whichever looks fun, there is no overarching story.
>>4008889thank you!
Would love to see a port of Ark of Napishtim to switch. That one gets overlooked by falcom far to often.
>>4009012Ark of Napishtim has better story and characters than Origin and Oath (which are made on the same engine), as well as some of the most important lore drops in the series.But... it also features abysmal gameplay, with enemy levels being all over the place (so they either do no damage or one shot you), tons of missables (including powerful upgrades), awful long jump mechanic (which is as consistent as the kick in Dark Souls), multiple points of no return where you can softlock yourself, the charged magic attacks from Origin/Oath are instead on a long cooldown here and you need to farm a fuck ton of materials to upgrade each, etc etc. It's a very rough game. It didn't even have any fast travel (despite the world being much larger than Origin/Oath) until the localizer added it in the Steam version. It's easy to see why Falcom never bothered re-releasing it.
>>4009040I had a blast playing the ps2 version back in the day though. Even if Konami uglified the gfx for no reason. I'd have to play it again to see how much of the faults you listed I'd agree with because at this point it's been about 20 years since I played the game.
>>4007704>>4008215I usually play with an 8bitdo actually which is maybe why I've never had an issue getting it to work. Did you get it working?>>4007506I think you need to select "Input Assignments" here. Don't know which game that is but you click into the button you want to assign and press the button. I dont think the controller matters as long as its connected to your pc.
>>4009991Haven't really tried yet, been playing other things, but I can tell you the Switch Pro doesn't really work when playing the game from Gog Galaxy, only when adding the executable to Steam which I don't really mind but my autistic mind would really like to have the progress on Galaxy.
