Criteria:
- Character creation
- Multiple gameplay styles/classes (warrior, rogue, mage)
- A vast open-world map fully accessible after the prologue (no towns or regions blocked by the main quest)
- a completely optional main quest (spend dozens of hours on side/faction quests, buy a house, etc... without touching the main quest)

With The Elder Scrolls having been in a coma for 15 years, a company could have seized the opportunity to fill the void with their own game.

And yet, no one tried. No one tried to take advantage of the fact that Todd was sleeping on his treasure to sneak into his lair and steal the Arkenstone.

Why? Just fuckin’ why?

Too hard to make and even the best (realistic) attempt is destined to be inferior to TES.
>>
>>3992987
Every game that tries fucks up the balance somehow, usually by either not allowing any variety in the gameplay or by making their bad story and writing too central to playing usually by way of quirky companions who are the actual main characters

Anyone else heard of Wayward Realms? I have high hopes that it's going to be exactly like TES and doesn't screw up and fall into obscurity. It is directed by two devs who worked on Arena and Daggerfall (One of them sadly passed away, last year).

>>
I've always wanted an Elder Scrolls style game set in the Warhammer Fantasy world.
>>
>>3993309
Pretty sure they abandoned UE5, so none of the screenshots are actually true.
>>
>>3992987
TES games are defined by their modding scene. Skyrim is getting new mods daily.
>>
>>3993390
Well there haven't been any good ones in a long time.
>>
>>3993135
>Every game that tries
None try
Ardenfall is the closest but it isn't out yet so the above is still accurate. I hope Ardenfall fixes the fucking terrible dungeons found in the demo, though.

I can't tell if delusional fanboy or just aware of how fucked the industry is.
>>
>>3993754
Considering not a single dev has come close to their formula, they must be doing something right. However intangible that 'something' is.
>>

And now the technical Director Kai who replaced him has left too, and the kickstarter early access demo has been delayed.

The technical director worked unpaid, and left after getting a job elsewhere.

There is only one Todd the God and his work is complete.
It is like why nobody in 2000 years did not become a new Jesus.
There can be only one. Search your feelings, you know it is true. Then buy Skyrim(again)
>>
>>3992987
Because Bethesda has 25+ years experience of doing the same thing. It's like asking why there aren't more games that copy Total War.
>>
>>3994006
So delusional fanboy then.
>>
Does Enderal coun?

>>3993309
If this actually comes out and has more than 25 hours of gameplay TES 6 wont have to come out

Just off the top of my head:
Tainted Grail: Fall of Avalon
Gedonia
Outward 1/2
Two Worlds 1/2
Dread Delusion
All these come close. The problem is that these kind of open-ended games are difficult to make and Elder Scrolls is so well-loved that any similar games are going to invite comparison.

I do like the lore, but outside provinces like Morrowind, Black Marsh, Elsweyr, Valenwood and Alinor the setting isn’t that great.
Cyrodiil is your typical medieval style fantasy setting
Hammerfell is just North Africa (Berbers and the like)
High Rock is essentially the same as Cyrodil but is a bit more interesting due to its history
Of TES6 is set in Hammerfell then expect it to flop, what people loved about the twink scrolls were its alien settings. And Hammerfell being a a giant desert with cities and towns being set on the coast AND filled with black people will be the final death kneel for the series, mark my words

Is TES Online that good?
>>
>>4000400
No
>>
>>4000396
if TES6 is in Hammerfell, and if they must have a gimmick like how the Thu'um was for Skyrim, they could implement that Sword-singing or whatever it was called
>>
As retarded as it sounds there don't seem to be any devs that are capable of replicating the aspects of elder scrolls games that people ACTUALLY enjoy which is the dungeon loop, the factions, and the focus on atmosphere in regards to music and art and world design. I tried playing tainted grail and realized it instantly wasnt gonna do it for me when I realized you can't pick up 80% of objects, aka getting rid of one of the most notable and lauded aspects of elder scrolls games because it makes people feel like the world somehow actually exists
>>
>>4000396
That's not really true. Cyrodiil has,or had, a lot of interesting lore and was never meant to be just generic medieval high fantasy. The Colovian and Nibenese cultural divide ,the roman culture and aesthetics and the various cults would have all made it a lot more interesting if Bethesda hadn't ignored their own lore from Morrowind.

/vrpg/ really needs to get a better grasp on reality.

It's not like they can finish each game with a "whew that's the last of everything we ever wanted to put into a video game"

It's one thing for a writer to brain fart a single line about 100 cults, and another to implement them.

Now you can argue about what things should be prioritized, but it seems the successes, and being released at all, speaks for itself. Although the average nerd may be blind to it.

anon you are misinterpreting his post. It's not that stuff was left out, its that they completely rewrote the entire country. It was supposed to be a jungle ruled by two competing senatorial factions between old money legionaires (west) and a coallition of espionage illuminatis (east). The oblivion that you saw wasn't Cyrodiil, it was a total retcon.
>>
I don't get it either. Companies have created a billion knock offs of GTA and The Witcher 3 but there just aren't any for the one of the grestest selling and most culturally impactful game series of all time.

My personal guess is that its a type of game that big AAA developers/publishers don't want to make. They want to tell stories with their own characters because they all secretly want to make movies/TV shows. Creating a world that lets the player come up with their own story isn't appealing to them, and at their core I don't think they understand roleplaying, especially singleplayer.

Its why we'll never see Baldur's Gate 3 knock offs despite its massive popularity.

>anon you are misinterpreting his post.
No I'm not.
>It's not that stuff was left out, its that they completely rewrote
When it can't be implemented right, you rewrite.

Some booklet for another game almost 10 years prior doesn't matter shit when there's a game to make.

I don't believe you even care about the rewrites.

Bethesda should branch out and make RPGs, RTSes, civ games, city-builders and maybe even a sims game in their TES setting.

I always check the popular tab on the nexus and there are some pretty good ones but people these days don't make big mods, the popular ones are the very small non intrusive mods that add immersion

>>4001870
And honestly are there any need for large (or total overhaul) mods?
Tamriel Rebuilt is different because it adds more of Morrowind to Morrowind and helps the game feel more immersive.
Skyblivion and Morroblivion just don’t have that same feeling and forgive me by saying this, they feel redundant?
If I wanted to play Morrowind I’d just boot up Morrowind with updated graphics and immersion mods, same with Oblivion.
Yeah there aren’t any big mods nowadays because they’re redundant and unnecessary (and also because long development times are too much to handle for smaller devs, long gone are the days when a lone turbo autist would churn out huge mods in a manner of weeks)

>>4001916

Yes having some more decent quest mods would be nice.
