Chrono Trigger is the peak of reality

I know I'm a ""few"" years late to the party. But I happen to be playing Chrono Trigger for the first time.
>>
>>3995938
Chrono Trigger characters are really boring
I think people just liked it for the time travel vibes that gets elevated by Mitsuda's compositions
Also seeing Toriyama's art is used for something other than Dragon Quest is something I guess

Tfw you have lived long enough that kids haven't played Chrono Trigger anymore and have to guess at why people may have liked it
>>
>>3995992
I played it a long time ago
Funny some of those CT fans always consider critics to not have even played it
When their arguments for why is it good is just "because it is good!"
>>

>Chrono Reddit
this garbage is so shit even the worst DQ mogs it
>>
>>3995996

Why is toriyama art so well-suited for silent protag slops?
>>
>>3995938
Im never going to play this overrated piece of crap though
>>

>even the worst DQ mogs it
DQ is exceptionally underrated in the west and always give the player vastly more freedom than CT does, so I can't even take issue with this. It really is a much richer and deeper series than CT, but people just really like the vibes of CT I guess.
>>
Dragon Quest sucks and is intentionally dated and boring to appeal to late 40 something Japanese salarymen who have wasted their lives

goddamn theres a lot of faggots itt
imagine having your synapses so burnt, your twink asshole so abused, that you cant even enjoy Chrono Trigger.

Imagine seething and being assblasted by criticism of your beloved game.
>>

This is the only SNES jrpg that holds up to modern standards imo. I tried others like star ocean, lufia, earthbound, ff. They are pretty clunky, janky. Especially star ocean.

Chrono Trigger is very polished by comparison, ahead of its time.

the more you polish a gem the more it lost its edges

This is what the kids call "projection"
>>
>>3997013
So you never knew about the word "projection" in your childhood that you had to refer to kids doing it? Sad.
>>

If it helps, I'm fp anon and I'm having a good time. I got filtered by Magus for a bit, but figured out that it was better to have another healer instead of trying to force every single element. I wonder if I'm near or past the halfway mark since I think Ayla is the last companion.

Anyways, this thread seems pretty angry, so I'm sure no one wants me around to blogpost. I'll just say that I'm normally I'm a DQfag, but I have to admit Chrono Trigger's style of live combat is kino. The combo system is fun. The Toriyama cutscenes are sovl. And I like the characters, my favorite is the frog nigga. Not too much to complain about on my end desu. Other than the fact I would've liked a 4 player party for more combos.

>I have to admit Chrono Trigger's style of live combat is kino
Well at first glance yeah, but on deeper glance you will question what's the point if you cannot actually move in the battlefield?
>The Toriyama cutscenes are sovl
I mean you are a DQfag, this is the most obvious thing ever.

No offense intended.
I enjoyed reading this despite not agreeing with the "CT best JRPG evar" train.

>No offense intended.
Don't worry, I'm just here to discuss vidya games. I dunno why anons on /vrpg/ are so angry all the time. I see my favorite games slandered all the time.
>live combat
For me, at least compared to Dragon Quest, it's the timing and combos. You can delay a characters turn to do a combo, heal after the boss attacks, etc. For example, I was waiting for a boss attack to reapply the electricity debuff. Definitely feels a bit more dynamic to me.

Although, now that I think about it, I will admit some boss fights are a bit stale since you do the same rotation over and over again. Same with normal battles, they aren't too crazy most of the time and the animations are a bit long.
>what's the point if you cannot actually move in the battlefield?
The enemies do move around, and some AOE spells only hit a certain radius so you can wait for them to go inside. I remember there was an enemy that peeked its head out once in a while and you have to hit it while it did that too.

>The enemies do move around, and some AOE spells only hit a certain radius so you can wait for them to go inside
I looked up online and Sakaguchi said it's actually strategic design decision but I still think it's a waste of potential to not let the players move on their own control. At least give us movement skills, even if we can't control the characters directly.
>>
>>3997029
>I still think it's a waste of potential to not let the players move on their own control.
Yeah, I agree. I don't think there's too much AOE to position around but if there was movement that'd probably be implemented too.

It is a 30 year old game though. Call me crazy but I think it spawned stuff like Xenoblade's battle system.
>combos
>3 characters
>positioning
Which should be like what movement would be in Chrono Trigger.

The only game where ATB was used well.

This is more projection. Keep going, you’re unintentionally funny

chrono trigger is great

when akira toriyama died i completely no lifed the game and got every single ending

the trash mobs are kinda face roll but every boss is a very interesting puzzle to defeat, wish more rpgs had bosses like chrono trigger instead of just meat sticks with 10x more hp than normal

last time i broke the game by using a party of crono, marle, and robo, and put all my magic tabs into robo, making him into an insane healer. the magic tabs also boost marle+robo dual techs into insane damage that even does more than luminaire or dark matter

i'm probably not gonna play it for a long time but i got my moneys worth
>>
>>3995992
If it was good, they wouldn’t need to guess. It’s been surpassed dozens of time, admit it, genX lost.
>>
>>3997278
>It’s been surpassed dozens of time
Name one dozen.
>admit it, genX lost
Everyone I know who enjoyed CT is a millennial. JRPGs are for children and Gen X should’ve grown past them by then
