I love classic jrpgs, octopath traveler, bravely default, dragon quest. All these series are great modern representation of the genre and I wonder why other companies haven't looked at their success and thought why don't they have a side team work on some turn based games. I'm currently playing through dragon quest 9. It is super fun, what jrpg are you guys playing and what companies would you like to see make an attempt at a classic jrpg?
Companies with long standing franchises should make side rpgs with lower budgets for fun and to give more life to the characters. An overwatch rpg or a sonic rpg would be interesting concepts, plus the combat systems are practically built for them with games like dragon quest existing. It baffles me that they dont do things like this.
>>3996226Companies are stupid af
>>3996228Literally this, it makes sense to me that a development studio with 500-1500 members cant spare 20 members to just work on a side game on their own time as long as they have something to show at monthly meetings. I have known tranny indie devs who can put together full third person shooter demos in a month, so why couldnt a team at sega or ea shit together a low budget rpg based on their big franchises? Truly makes no sense
>>3996219I hate Octopath and Dragon Quest (except V).Octoslop is no way a classic yet.>>3996226Yeah there are lots of game franchises that makes good RPG concepts.A Sonic RPG already exists, I know it's bad, but I don't see it getting much better than that.Overwatch RPG? Might as well a Team Fortress RPG, a Valorant RPG.. those games have similar mechanics and features after all.
>>3996411Yeh a tf2 rpg would be funny, its a good idea. The sonic rpg was shitty, just make it turn based and give everyone a class/skills related to em, its not hard.
>>3996219turn based doesn't sellnormalfags demand roll slop
>>3996567>turn based doesn't sellExpedition 33 was a huge success. Metaphor sold pretty well too.
>>3996568every modern game needs to be a "souls like" AKA rollslop with one-hit kill artificial difficulty so that streamers can get rekt and do onions face for viral marketing
>>3996567>>3996568E33 proves that they want qteslop in Turn Based RPGs.There is a reason Toby Fox games and Mother 3 got popular
cont. >>3996675the Mario RPGs except the SNEs one also had themShadow Hearts got released on the wrong time, it could have been popular now due to people looking for that mechanic
>>3996675>>3996676Mario rpgs sell pretty well, so why wouldnt a modern well thought out interpretation of a sonic rpg? Or hell a senran kagura turn based rpg. There are tons of franchises that could just have a low budget game and it would sell enough to justify.
>>3996914Well you are gonna get QTE-heavy TB games that don't actually try to give you a plethora of options in the combat, instead you are gonna have to time your moves everytime in battle.I'm OK with QTE but don't make it the main focus in every TB combat, make it optional, maybe just the certain playstyle of a character / job class. That said ofc I have no problem if a studio know how to make a better Sonic RPG.IDC about Senran Kagura however.
>>3996963or now hear me out... They just make it a regular turn based game. No dumb gimmicks. Sonic gets attacks that look fast, amy hits with hammer or casts spells, tails makes bombs n shit. Its literally simple when you dont over think it.
Lmao looks like i got what I wanted with ff resonance. More like this please rpggods
>>3996411TF2 would probably be better as a tactics strategy game
>>3998844Oooo ff tactics style, engineer sets a turret up, heavy low damage but can fire lots. God that sounds awesome, would work really well.
>>3996219>classic jrpgs>octopath traveler, bravely defaultLOL
>>3998856Classic style moron. Like games that have the same spirit with actual turn based combat and not flashy bullshit 3d models and action combat that pretends to be an rpg
>>3996226I think they don't do this because1. They're worried about "damaging the brand". Companies are always worried that their precious IP will get a reputation for being low quality, like if someone sells a branded t-shirt for too cheap. It leads to the design-by-committee and analysis paralysis problems when they make new first-party products (the actual games, show, etc. that the merch references) where they overanalyze how the brand at large will be impacted by small details that no one gives a fuck about.2. They can alternatively pay low-budget teams to make gacha games and microtransaction-heavy spinoffs, which produce much higher monetary returns. So almost no business does what you're describing for that reason.
