Why is it that RPGs with good gameplay never have a good story and vice versa? Why can't we have both? It's almost like a curse or something.
Your picture reminds me of playing Hocus Pocus on DOS with a Gravis gamepad.
>>3998603It's Starlow's fault, she never stops talking. You could've called Dream Team "Mario & Luigi: STARLOW SHUT THE FUCK UP"
>>3998603People who can write good stories are almost never interested in making games, while people who can make good games usually have no storytelling abilityMost people who do care to go into games expressly for the purpose of games are just failed writers/directors, thus bitter about their lives, tainting their already low writing ability, making whatever they write really totally worthless
>>3998734>expressly for the purpose of writingFixed,
>>3998734I think you're not all wrong, but you're ignoring that narratives are passive and games are interactive, so they are at cross purposes to begin with. Games should focus on a thematic expression more than a passive narrative.
>>3998603A good RPG is goes wherever the player wants it to, a good story is linear and goes where the author needs it to to deliver a compelling and satisfying narrative. The two are diametrically opposed.
>>3998603As >>3998739 says, the reason to pick a game as a medium is to communicate themes through player agency and consequences. The board game Monopoly is a classic example.
>>3998603>Why is it that RPGs with good gameplay never have a good story and vice versa? Why can't we have both? That would imply /vrpg/ is ready to admit that some RPG has had a good story...
>>3998795Xenogears, terrible RPG, good story.
>>3998797Isn't that a JRPG, so presumably your role is chosen for you. And their story.
>>3998734>>3998603this is just a damn stealth /tv/ thread isn't it?
