Well I like how the final boss wasn't a complete pushover despite me doing all the side content.

In general, I think bosses scaling with your level is actually a good idea and more RPGs should do it.

Although obviously Lunar isn't quite sophisticated enough to take advantage of that since Alex is Sword Dancing, Mia and Nash are casting fire and thunder, Jessica is healing and Kyle is doing Sword Dance Kyle Edition every boss fight.

Silver Star Story is good but I was able to leave everything, even the final boss, on auto-battle. Stomped everything, no challenge at all.

The same can't be done for the final boss in Eternal Blue, at least not unless you overlevel. Still I was able to auto-battle every boss other than the final one in the second game as well.

The games are fun, memorable, cute, but there is very little challenge in the main game. Post-game might be harder, but I didn't bother with it yet in Eternal Blue.

Even if you don't put everything on auto battle, Nash can just put everything to sleep for like 2/3 of the game. And then in the last 1/3rd Mia just gets a basically free screen nuke (Nash can still put most things to sleep failing that though)

I gotta be honest.

Jessica is really hot but their constant bickering has gotten to the point of actually draining my enjoyment a little bit.

It really feels like someone on staff has spent a long time around a couple like that so kudos to them I suppose for capturing that dynamic.

That side of him really doesn't make sense considering how much of a hammy evil wizard he is in every other sense. Then again, his motivations for turning to evil don't make sense either. Althena gave up her powers to stop humans from going at each other's throats over trying to appease her, and he's pissed at this because...? Well, because.

Then Lunar 2 tries to kind of redeem him, which muddies the waters even further.

I guess what I'm saying is despite Lunar's casts having a lot of charm, the villains kind of suck.

I think it makes slightly more sense in the Sega CD version where his best friend had his powers stripped in a battle that only happened because of a failure on the Goddess' part (inability of her magic to cover the entire moon). So he has to ask how long until it's his turn to lose "everything" in service of an incompetent and weak goddess?

I think Dhaos from Tales of Phantasia has a similar problem where he's just too comically evil most of the time to believe he actually had mostly good intentions.

I don't really see them as similar. Ghaleon's motivations are murky and poor-explained/thought out. Dhaos' problem is that his motivations aren't revealed until like literally the last 30 minutes of Phantasia.

I always thought Phantasia would've been way cooler if Midgard was like the Empire from FF6 or Secret of Mana and Dhaos was the leader of a resistance faction that ended up being defeated. Would've made the story make way more sense.

Dhaos also has the problem of a lot of his minions being demons and thus actively trying to undermine his goals when they think he isn't looking since they want the Mana Tree dead.

While Ghaleon's minions are all completely loyal despite the fact he obviously doesn't care about any of them.

Nash is GOAT, I just kinda hate how the game fumbles his arc. If you pay attention to NPC chatter, it's pretty clear he's keeping things from the party. The closer you get to his moment of betrayal, it becomes obvious he's not really on Ghaleon's side, but legitimately thinks the party stands no chance of beating him, and he's only betraying them to save Mia's life because she's the first person who treated him like a person and not the douchebag he generally is. But then during his big scene in the Grindery, that all just kinda gets lost and it seems like he's just a retarded douche in a clown robot who doesn't know who the good guys are.

Makes me wonder if different writers handled the main plot and the inexhaustible NPC chatter, so his true motive kind of got lost in translation.

If they played the HD remaster, that's very possible. The PS1 version had the difficulty increased quite a bit for the NA release. The actual game is pretty damn easy.

It seems that the Working Designs difficulty boost wasn't such a bad thing for Lunar SSSC. It actually sounds better than the original in this case.

Yeah, people just like to bitch whenever any baka gaijin localizer makes a change to glorious nippon programming, but I think it ultimately helped the game, because it's no masterpiece of battle mechanics to begin with.

You definitely have to grind a bit early on to get up to speed in the WD version, but once you get a feel for all your abilities and learn which enemies to prioritize killing, you can just go all out every battle and it keeps you engaged, even though your strategic options are limited.The original game was so easy you have no reason to engage with anything, which is probably exactly why WD made the call.
