PS1 is the canon one. Definitely play it if you plan to play Destiny 2 in the future.

Ideally play both, ToD1 PS1 -> ToD2 -> ToD1 PS2
But if you're committed to only playing one version of ToD1 it should be the PS2 version

You're not wrong but i feel like this is overstated lately, the story differences aren't that important. I actually think the biggest reason to play both versions is to see how Kyle and Judas' movesets in 2 influenced Stahn & Leon's movesets in the remake
