So faggots will have you believe that Oblivion is bad because they've retconned the jungle element and that the world is a generic Tolkien-ish realm, that Cyrodill is too familiar and not outlandish enough and if only we had a couple more mushroom towers the game would be so much better. They praise quests like the Troll Painting and use it as an example of good quest design as if it weren't a mission you might as well encounter in a MMORPG>The issue of seeing the worldWe've gone to Solstheim in Morrowind and no one's complained about it because even the tavern in Raven Rock was so well-designed that it draws you in as much as any tower in Red Mountain. Here it's more a question of textures and graphics rather than generic notions of world design- as such, an Imperial Fort or the city of Caldera might and do look more impressive than any mushroom tree in the Shivering Isles simply because Oblivion looks made of plastic and not only the graphics, limited by technological matters, but also the general design philosophy, make the game evidently look and feel, indeed be, childish- let us not even bring up the faces of characters but most importantly, the voice acting. Graphics can be limiting but whimsical voices are an overt design choice. Morrowind does not look "alien" because of the "alien" elements within it, it looks dangerous and unwelcoming because of unique artistic choices wherein even humans and human constructions seem oppressive. No one ever mentions Blackreach, again, as "alien" though it might be, and that's because of design, and lighting, and approachability. Not to beat up a dead horse, but Fargoth is much more a scary-looking character than a Falmer could ever be.
>The issue of the WorldIn Morrowind, the Imperials had two factions out in the open, the Cult and the Legion, and had its hands in many other ones. Within that, there were split factions- one which aimed to assassinate the emperor. One fort which was populated by only Orcs. Some wanted to serve the Empire, some, their own needs. The Thieves Guild could be a faction a good character would join, because they wanted to extend the reach of the Empire. House Hlaalu gave you the choice to serve the Empire or your own wants. The only time Oblivion tried to mimic that was when in Mages Guild you met a faction separate from the main one, but it never gave you a choice one way or the other. Most offensively, the Imperial Legion itself was never joinable or intractable with in any way other than when they're sort-of-but-not-really chasing you for being in the Thieves Guild, which in itself has a silly and ultimately meaningless story, centered around, what, a random fucking faggot who's taken cowl and regretted it? Yeah I don't know I'll expound later maybe.
The problem with Oblivion is that it fucking sucks. Anyone who's not a retarded xbox-owning NIGGER knows this.
>>4003365well yea but you can explore the reasons why
>>4003375My pure gamer gene allows me to recognize a game is bad without having to investigate why.

>>4003360Oblivion is cringekino.
>>4003360oblivion is bad because it leads the player by the nose with quest markers while scaling the world to the player's level and also isn't remotely fun to control
