Would you want more from the world of bravely default? Or do you think octopath is a good natural evolution for the developers and the series? I do like the chibi designs in bravely so I think more of the series would make me happy.
the story personally was not interesting, but I like the characters and I think most people will agree with that. For right now I'm satisfied, I'm playing BD1 again and I'm trying to work out a more sophisticated way of playing because I think most people just grind because I don't see much for low level playthroughs without using reconstruction shit like bloody shields. I want to find a way to beat it in a timely manner. I may be the first one to do it ever! I've entered chapter 2 at levels 14/14/13/14. I think most people just grind to level 99 before Victor 1 and I want to try to work out a better strategy.
>>4008474can you post your build that sounds really interesting!
>>4008475sure thing. once again this is not using newgame+ or anything special this is pure Hard difficulty new game. so the only special attack i have used is sword's lv1 called hack and slashBarras and Holly3/3FreelancerFreelancerGet 2 Broadswords and 2 Daggers. No money for armor so everything else goes to more potions. At low HP, (about 80) Barras will self destruct and die whether or not Holly heals her, dealing about 150 damage.I had 16 potions entering and 7 after. It was a bad fight.Ominas3/3/3/4MonkMonkWhitemageEdea joins this fight as Freelancer and level 4. iirc everyone else is level 3 but i didn't write my notes down for this for some reason. You will probably want a couple more potions, wakeup bells and echo herbs. You will probably use the Ether too.Heinkal6/6/6/7MonkBlackmageBlackmage Monkeveryone should have bucklers and pointy hats. idk if bronze bangles are really necessary.but i had them. Switch bucklers out for rods when you cast and you do around 100~ per Thunder, more when his defenses go down. This is a crucial strategy I use for the rest of the game because switching equipment does not expend any action points at all. It's very important afterward for when I get Two-handed so I can default with shields then take them off when i want to attack to do 2-handed Stomps.
I forgot to write down I think after Ominas I bought Kenpo Gis for everyone, I think I sold a lot of important stuff in the midst of testing and forgot to write it down.I pick up all the items before the Vestment Dragon. If I fight this boss now at the level I'm at I have no chance for survival. So far I had been playing with -100% encounters but now i have no money and equipment is getting pricey. This is the point i turn on encounters but I turn off exp gain as I only want money and a little jp. Knight is the primo class right now because it gives good bases and great armor increases. Monk would be better to gain levels with because even though your bases are not static, your base hp growth when you level is the highest when you level up as monk. So when I want to level up it should be with monk. HP is still very very tight.(But I still turn on exp for bossfights because i wanted to see how much i get)From this point on it should be clear Tiz and Edea have the highest physical power, and Agnes and Ringabel have the highest magic power.I need to do some sidequests to gain more power.Jackal and Khint9/9/9/9KnightKnightKnightKnightMin:88 Attack (Agnes,2h Mythril Sword)28 P.Def (Agnes)Mythril AxeMythril ShieldCat-Ear HoodKenpo GiMythril BangleMythril Axe 2-Handed Stomps will be about 350 at lv9 with edea, 250 with ringabel, 200 with agnes. If you get Jackal or Khint down to half HP, Khint will leave. The turn after Khint leaves, Jackal will always do a +4 attack.Just guard and stomp his ass to death.Profiteer and Khint10/10/10/10same equipment as beforeThis fight is very similar to the previous boss.Profiteer does true 300 damage every attack. He will always guard once then shoot 2 shots. He doesn't always attack the same character twice... but he can. You will want Hi Potions and Phoenix Downs.
>>4008490>>4008483Sounds like a lot of potion spam, is that better than just grinding?
9/10/10/10*Tiz died in Jackaland Ringabel died in Profiteer before I could revive them. it's significant to mention because now it's time for the first true testVestment Dragon12/13/11/13same as beforeThe first attempt doing this this boss demolished me, but the second time went a lot better. But this is when my tiny healthbar really starts to become a problem. As always, keep defaulting to build up actions. I'm just waiting, just predicting for moments when he doesn't use Mow Down. But this time I'm being a lot more careful. Instead of before where I was just let loose everyone on the same turn after getting to +3 sometimes usually right after a mow, i'll have to use 2 or 3 cures just to survive or use a hi potion. You still want hi potions and phoenix downs because I still had characters dropping in this and somehow this haphazard strategy worked. I think I probably could have done this at level 11, but oh well. next time.Orthrus14/14/13/14New additions:Mythril Armor (idk if this was necessary)Same as usual, but with some black magic to use fire and ice. When the heads are out, they are stuck doing weak single attacks for 2 turns. immediately reapply fire and ice on the 3rd.honestly i'm not sure if i needed to do any levelling. This one was pretty easy but i got sick of losing levels to deaths so i turned out exp gains againKhamer and Khint14/14/13/14nothing newThis is another good reason to use this strat... Stomp cannot miss.Unfortunately Remedy does not cure Stop... just remember death is a cure.Something to note is if Tiz is dead, and you activate the dialogue for Khint... Tiz will be revived. That's all I've got so far.
>>4008494Not all potion spam...I'm dual classing Knight with White Mage perks and when I either run out of MP which has not happened since Ominas or having near dead characters using Hi-Potions because if they die and someone uses the potion then it's wasted but if they use it and it works, it's fine. if he dies, he dies
>>4008490bases ARE static, growths are not*that's what i meant
>>4008459is the hd "remaster" on steam any good or should i just finally hack my 3ds?
>>4008508Its great. no downsides as far as I can tell.
>>4008509nice, thanks
>>4008509i think it SUCKS
>>4008483slight clarification, when i say 'switch bucklers for rods when you cast' I mean dual wielding rods. you get a +3 magatk for each rod so that's +6at that level it's really important to be maximizing your attacks like this
>>4008459octopath has potential with its path actions, sadly the devs just made it so formulaic and boring. so yeah I want a more refined and interesting take on the path actions. a better worldbuilding, organic interactions between party members, more free flowing battle system with more options is also what I wished for a sequel. saying this despite being a rather vocal opp of Octopathsimilar sentiment with Bravely, although I think it had already some reached of my expectation of it in the 1st game, while Octopath hasn't
>>4008459to be upfront - I've played BD and BS, and I think that's really enough for the series. They've done enough with the setting and made very solid games that tell complete stories. I have no desire to ever play BD2 (which I think looks much worse, and apparently has a lot of gameplay issues anyways)Not everything needs infinite sequels.
>>4008459We are so far removed from a "real" entry in the Luxendarc games that I think any "Bravely Third" or whatever would suck ass. BD+BS are some of my favorite games but I'm okay with that book being closed forever. Also they took out the "for the sequel" stuff in the remaster so I don't think anybody at SE is interested in pulling that thread anyway. BD2 sucked ass but if they did a BD3 with lessons learned from that I'd be willing to give it a try.
>>4008494yes, or at least i'll be able to get to a better grind spot faster.one of the main barriers of entry i think people grind for is that now that fire2 is available to purchase, and most of the enemies are weak to fire, you want to get it. but you have to get to lv7 black mage to use tier 3 magic and that takes a lot of grinding, in a prior save file i saw lv34 at this point... so i had to find workarounds to leveling because even the random encounters are an even match at this point. i can still kill them but every now and then a character will drop and lose pointsso why is this the common grindspot for people despite that? well they usually switch to a lower difficulty if they weren't already playing on it, but i'm not. so i had to go back to the drawing board and do some more testing in the desert.in fact just as i was doing this i saw a stream on the algorithm and the thumbnail was of this exact same partthis was one of the main reasons i wanted to do this because i thought to myself there has to be a better way or at least get to a better grinding spot like chapter 3 faster.
new prog updateLand Turtle14/15/14/15Same equipment as beforeKnight/SpellfencerKnight/WhitemageKnight/WhitemageKnight/SpellfencerTwo-handed, Speed 10% on everyone, but Two-handed is the only important one here.Land Turtle is a fairly simple boss but it has some strange quirks.tl;dr Never try attacking when it's at +2. It can do a ton of random thingsbut when it loses Reflect it will usually prioritize reapplying that. Now comes the first signs of Spellfencer being the smarter choice. Magic weapons are not reflected. and spellfencer gets tier 3 magic at lv4 which is much faster. This is probably going to be the easiest boss of chapter 2. Mephilia and Artemis are still too powerful for me right now. I had planned to try using spellfencer auto aspir, but that probably wouldn't work because mephilia has 9999mp and idk if that would even stop her from summoning. I don't know if the magic weapons are based off int or str or both. blizzara stomps do upwards of 900but i don't do half this damage because i opt for a safer strategy. this boss doesn't dare put itself into negative, so if you hit it anywhere between 0-1 chances are it'll just guard or better, do a weak regular attack. This boss can be a truly unpredictable bastard if you try attacking it at 2. it might actually be a bit more consistent to do regular attacks. The tomahawk is the best weapon I have right now and you can't buy axes here, scimitars are the next best thing and for edea sometimes I'll crit a lot more during these guard phases and do just as much with a regular hit while it's defending. I can't survive more than 1 spin attack because everyone still has less than 800hp, if they crit me or hit while i'm not guarding another life is lost. I run out of phoenix downs and just decide to risk it and it worked, I really should buy a lot more.
also still don't have tier 3 white magic so raise is not an option, though I think using 18MP to revive is a lot worse because Blizzara is a bit costly.
>>4009008oops new additions were Tomahawk on TizRod of Fire on Agnes (doesn't use in land turtle fight)Scimitar on Edea
Einheria14/15/14/15New additions: Jade Crosier on AgnesSleep Blade on Edeaeverything else the same as beforeI should have put a staff on Agnes a long time ago to help with the heals but I was being very prudentDoes over half my health with crescent while I'm guarding, all I can really do is just default until she leaves herself open. When she jumps, I intentionally leave one character not guarding and most of the time she'll go after that one, edea can just barely survive Jump at full hp, but if it crits nobody can survive it either way. this is just a lucky moment of good hp growthslevel 16 would have probably been better. Not much else to say, just stay topped off, and apply your tier 3 magics and attack whenyou canthis is the first fight in a while i've had to use a couple ethers. I know you can poison her but I couldn't get it to happen at all
Artemis16/16/15/16Cross ShieldYggdrasil HelmMirage Vest for everyoneNot sure how much of this was necessary... The Mirage Vests were definitely the crutch of this fight, I think I spent 13200pg for all the equipment and 3000 for more hi potions and fenix downsThis fight is very similar to Land Turtle, in that you should not attack when it gets +2.first use of Ironclad for actual benefit.I have to drop my guard to heal, ironclad always goes first. I haven't been using it for stomp, I don't see a point, when you're guarding the debuffs mightas well not exist. This is also a better fight to use Mirage Vests and evasion armor because Artemis' multiburst does about 7-8 hits but with 44-45 evasion sometimes I don't get hit at all. Honestly I had more trouble getting over the adds, they have so much health on Hard difficulty. Once again I really don't care I'm only hitting her on her guard phase, the weakness hit is really just so this goes at a reasonable pace.Near death this biss stops messing around and uses two bursts at once. This boss has a very helpful steal item but... I'm going to see how far I can get like this without steal items.Rusalka and Derosa are still too strong right now even after buying all this armor so back to the drawing board.
>>4008459the first bravely default game is great, much better than octopath and it's not even close.the second game was shit however and i have not played any more since.>>4008474i tried to play without much grinding because i thought it would be a lot easier than it was. i got decently far with it but eventually you just start getting party wiped in one attack without being able to do anything about it because of lack of abilities/itemsi was going blind though, good luck with the routing because it seems like it would be obnoxiously difficult even with all of the outrageously overpowered things you can do in that game
Mephilia16/16/15/16Valkyrie/SpellfencerKnight/WhitemageKnight/Freelancer (just for scan)Valkyrie/SpellfencerTwo-handed, HP 10% UpNew additions:Valkyrie Halberd on Tiz,EdeaPeace Ring on everyoneMephilia has the least HP of the four asterisks in chapter 2, but makes up for it by having devastating damage. This boss is very simple mechanically. Every 3rd turn she will use the earth summon, Girtablulu. There is nothing to resist earth. And the adds here are actually very dangerous because the archer causes confuse and I can't sacrifice my health for this because the crit rate on the impaler is too damn high. For the first time since the beginning, I have to change jobs. I can't multi target with one enemy, but I can with valkyrie/dragoon's crescent attack to hit them without waiting the next turn.. The impaler dies but not the archer. As long as both adds are not dead she can't resummon more. Honestly switching to valk was probably a bad decision, I could have won much more consistently with magic knights but i wanted to try something new.Because of the archer's confuse effect, I have everyone with peace rings. It's not impossible to beat it without confuse immunity, but I don't want to leave things up to chance, I want to make consistent strategies people can reuse and refine to work better, but as a result my max hp is a lot lower than usual. Again, valkyrie really was not the best choice here. Jump can avoid girtablulu but the damage does not seems to increase that much with two-handed as much as sword magic increases. So when making these jumps I'm doing it still holding shields because I still take a good bit of damage from mephilia and the archer's physical attacks and near the end they kept criting me. Also swapping in freelancer left me severely understaffed for healing. Note for future: Bring 30+ Hi PotionsSummoner learns Resist Lightning, so fighting this boss before Derosa is very important. for me.
