Hello, I wanted to pitch something that I saw /vm/ do. Basically, they go through dead/unpopular mmos together as a group and make a thread to discuss them. I thought it would be a fun way for us to try games we typically wouldn't and find legitimate hidden gems. This thread is to gauge interest and give you an opportunity to shill a game you wanted to try or think is criminally underrated. Only rule is that it should have <500 reviews on Steam to really be considered obscure. Once we get five recs, we can hold a vote. To that end, I'm recommending Cardaire, a short, Yu-Gi-Oh inspired RPG where you build a deck and go on a tournament arc.
>>4009047i can't stand the artstyle clash between UI and the environments, but ofc I wanted similar styled games to what OP mentioned. (a yugioh single player RPG like forbidden memories, nightmare troubadour, sacred cards)now we need a Pokemon one
>>4009047>>4009303Overworld looks hella..cheap, can't pintpoint exactly why
>>4009047While that seems cool you might want a better rule to include rpgs outside of steam.Maybe pick a review site like metacritic or backlogdd? Also including rom hacks could be dope
>>4009047You want a clique here? take it to /vg/
>>4009047>log on to /vrpg/>see that stupid smiling slime on the pin>cuteness aggression instantly triggered>urge to bully intensifiesIt would be a disaster
>>4009469same rule can apply to those sites if the review count is low enough>>4009505god forbid we try to talk about video games
>>4009047Considering I sometimes post a copypasta of games including this on /v/, I feel legally obligated to support this project. As long as we actually play video games and we don't spend time with retarded shit like social movie nights, then we'll be infinitely better than MMOD.
>>4009631recommend something
>>4009633Why don't we pool a few games and make a vote?
>>4010161that's what I'm trying to do but no one's recommending anything
>>4009460I can tell you why. It's because every tree looks the same (they look shitty, too) and was lazily copy-pasted all over the place. The character models look stiff and out of place. There's a lack of shading in the grass, roads and water, making it all look flat.
>>4009047>Once we get five recs, we can hold a vote. And then what?
sounds fun. I recommend Excaliburian. It's freeware.
>>4010229Then we would presumably vote on a game to play around the same time. Like a book club.
>>4009047Anon you really should've prepared ahead of time at least a small list to get things going, it's easier for people to recommend stuff when they see that the project might go anywhere.Anyways, I recommend the Dungeon Traveler series, only the second game is on steam but it fits your requirement of sub 500 reviewshttps://store.steampowered.com/app/1901620/Dungeon_Travelers_To_Heart_2_in_Another_World/
>>4010229we play them and post our experiences in the thread for a set period of time. probably 3 weeks. >>4010323Maybe. I was worried people would feel choice paralysis if the list was too big. So far the choices are>Cardaire>Excaliburian>Dungeon Traveler 2 Just need 2 more recs and I'll start the strawpoll. If we don't get to 5 in 2 days, we'll just vote on these 3.
>>4009047I would suggest throwing this out in a popular rpg thread on /v/ or starting a thread with one. also it's a hard sell to get people in on buying unknown games. you'd have to do f2p ones, or easily pirateable
>>4010567I'll just upload whatever we pick in a mega for the thread
The OST is pleasant. Simple As and Duel 2 are my favorites.https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=mvyG8YSVTlQI struggle to think of other shorter RPGs. Helen's Mysterious Castle might be a fun group play. It's only a few hours long.>>4010323I have a few fledgling hours into DT2 and I think something like it in length is highly ambitious.
>>4010925Added to the list. Just need one more.
