How is the Dragon Quest III HD-2D remake?
>>4009127>How is the Dragon Quest III HD-2D remake?Aren't there hundreds of Let's Plays / streamers and even vtubers for these kinds of questions?Just watch a random video and see for yourself.Even if you end up watching a spoiler, you wouldn't know that you were spoiled yet and you might have already forgotten what's going to happen by the time that you realize you're in a familar part.
>>4009127I'm pretty anti-remake generally but I think it's good (and also that the SNES version was an improvement over the NES version)DQ3 lends itself to remakes actually being improvements since the gameplay matters so much more than the storyIt adds a new class and some nice QoLThe one thing I like more about the NES version is no personality mechanic. I think that shit's stupid and messes up the flow by making you have to reroll your party members at the start if you want optimal stats.
>>4010307Also best personality for hero is locked to female only
Shit like dungeon maps and full restore on level up is massively gay and makes the experience worse.
>>4009127as a dragon quest expert i can say it is both satisfying and unsatisfying.to nobodies surprise the newly added class has an extremely overpowered ability that kind of wrecks the games balance. other than that it's ok i guess. the early game "challenge"(forced backtrack for heal) got removed but the later game was beefed up a bit to compensate. there are pros and cons, a more regular difficulty curve and simplified death mechanic, but better balanced in most ways, if you ignore the new class, with some post game stuff added.definitely worth playing if you are a fan of the original or series>>4010319>bestpersonality is a lot less important in this remake(reachable stat caps), also you can get it on your male hero anyway later on
>>4009127I had a lot of fun with it, especially once you get the boat and everything kind of turns open world. The map is so big and the towns are so atmospherically distinct that after a while it really starts to feel like you're just trudging across entire continents. Then you get to some far-flung town and some dude at the pub tells a story that reveals your dad was here in the past, and suddenly the world feels connected again.Modern players shit on this game for its simple structure and sparse story, but those are both assets, imo. Creating your own party and getting immersed in the world (and turning the motherfucking objective markers OFF) really makes this feel like an adventure. Maybe not a story, but definitely an adventure. And that's what a JRPG should be.
>>4009127It's bad if you want to play the NES/SNES version with the pretty graphics. It's good if you liked VIII, IX, XI and want something different.
>>4010351>Shit like dungeon maps and full restore on level up is massively gay and makes the experience worsefucking basedi hate that modern dq titles and remakes just give you a map to stare at. you don't have to explore or even try shit is awful
>>4013290I agree with you, but at this point if you're complaining about it, it only makes you seem like the idiot. Of course games need to be made easier and less cryptic for modern fans. It's not like they made it illegal to play the original. Are you retarded?
>>4009127just another classic dumbed down and turned woke for the "modern audience" (zoomer mulattos)
>>4009127Its worse than the original if you are a normal human. If you are from the third world or a member of the zoomer species youll probably love it though.
>>4009127play the original first. and that goes for every game in the series.
>>4013546Impressive. You made a tier list that is almost the complete opposite of reality.
>>4009127just play the gbc or snes version.
>>4013410maybe people who aren't familiar with the series don't know how it's devolved. people like op, for example. you stupid fucking retard faggot, how about i cut your fucking balls off?
>>4009127idk I played the GBC version.but I can speak on the I+II hd2d remake because I'm playing it rn. beat 1 and I'm most of the way thru 2, on some Mermaid dungeon stuff, 30+ hours in. It has the same QoL options available which are the main thing I wanna talk about. What these games did really well was let you minimize the things that annoy you. I hate quest markers so I turned them off, but I'm not a fan of returning to town over and over and over so I left on the "health and mana restore on level up" setting because fuck it I like the sense of momentum it gives dungeon delving. It is the one buff I gave myself(oh wait, I left on the super effective indicator too. It really helped me learn DQ type effectiveness, looking back now at GBC DQIII, I didn't engage with type matchups at all and had to brute force everything with melee. No idea golems were weak to wind attacks, zombies weak to fire and electric etc. I think for my next DQ game I won't need this cheat because now I'm more familiar with the monsters.)My advice would be to minimize the amount of cheats you give yourself, lest the game become hollow and braindead. /vrpg/ would probably say any option besides NEShard is casual, But DQ 1 did NOT need quest markers at all. DQ 2 is a pretty big map with pretty brutal ocean monsters that slow everything down, and its dungeons are super empty and time wastey so I can see the appeal of the treasure markers and stuff, but that is just such a gay way to play the game. I guess ask yourself what sounds gayer, magic map clairvoyance or wandering through random encounters for hoursI'm not an expert, I haven't played every version. But I enjoyed DQ1HD2D a lot, and it clocked in at ~27 hours which is where I wanted it to be. I saved myself a little bit of time by healing on levelup and abusing type weaknesses, but I think having quest markers on mightve made me underleveled from lack of wandering. fun enough that i'll be buying III in this style
I personally love this. It made me a fan of the franchise. Now I'm playing the first two games on a SNES emulator
>>4015395>Type 1 and Type 2Americabros is this real?
>>4009127I loved it, loved the balance changes they made to the classes and monsters so there was potential for you to be challenged and still seemingly-OP at many points in the story.
>>4015853I don't know what dumbass made this shit up, but I would like for it to go the fuck away. I just saw it yesterday Digimon Story: Time Stranger. How does this "fix" gender? It's still male and female but with extra steps and does nothing about the nongender thing, and you'll next guess which of the two is 1/A and which is 2/B. So now female is explicitly the secondary gender, the beta gender? Because that's what Type 2 or Type B imply. How the fuck is that not more sexist then "male and female"? This is the same dumb shit as BC/AD->BCE/CE. How is Jesus's birth the start of the "Common Era"? The advent of the Biblical Messiah is the demarcation of "modernity" or whatever "common" is supposed to infer? How is that not more offensive to non-Christians than "yeah, Christians happened to be the first to unite the globe so their calendar became the international standard; we just all live with it". The long last and wide reaching consequences of historical hegemony is pretty inoffensive compared to "Jesus is the beginning of modern times" or whatever bullshit CE standards for. Sometimes, bandaids to non-problems actually make them way more problematic than whatever perceived slight might have triggered the impulse to reinvent the wheel. Maybe I would be up for new terminology for our "enlightened/progressive/woke neo-reality" if it actually was fucking new and not attempts to make the shit that's worked for millennia ironically far more offensive.
