I had 4 and 6 on console and played 5 on zsnes back in the day. "Pixel remaster* looks like such shit would never touch it. What is the best way to play these now?
The Pixel Remaster
Emulate SNES originals in ZSNES. Pixel remasters are total garbage.
>>4009221Wasn't there some gba or psp remakes? I know ff4 weren't 3d but the look sucked.
>>4009221What if I want to share my playthrough on social media and don't want to look like an emulating pirate?
if you're playing old games that means you want to talk about old games with others. so you should play the versions that they played.snes.
>>4009211>Best way to playunzip n fap to the doujins on e-hentai.but the Snes9x emu is fine.
Always play the originals.- FFIV you may want to find hacks that restore content for the NA release, or else play a fan translation of the original Super Famicom version. - For FFV, you can use the RPGe translation of the SFC version. It's classic.- FFVI, there's a bug in the evade stat that I like to patch. Beware that the fan translation community for FFVI is notoriously ridden with aids and cancer. Best to leave it alone.
>>4009227there is GBA remakes of 4-6 that adds new content but the sound quality is ass
>>4009552>adds new contentWhy do people say this like it’s a good thing?
>>4009509Thanks for the write up.I guess I miss some of the "bonus" dungeons they added in some of the other ones (like I remember ff4 had them)Not that I'd play them but did the pixel remaster have the bonus stuff?
>>4009566When I get an itch to have a different experience with FF4, I play the Free Enterprise randomizer. There's one for FF6 also, called "Worlds Collide" which is fun but for whatever reason I don't get into it as much as the FF4 one.
>>4009582What's that do
>>4009582I liked FF4 Darkness Within that starts you off with Dark Knight Cecil with Palom and Porom in the underworld, cus all of em died in the intro. Reverse FF4 was neat to play.
>>4009582>When I get an itch to have a different experience with FF4I have just the thing for you guys
>>4009720Lol seems legit sell us

In the og ff4Was kain 'in on it' from the beginning with the myst attack? It kind of seemed like he knew and was a plant from the king.
>>4010385Anyone?
>>4009509>For FFV, you can use the RPGe translation of the SFC version. It's classic.Apart from the totally botched PS1 translation, I think the RPGe script is my least favorite available for FFV. It's not bad, just really dry and utilitarian for what is a fairly whimsical and sentimental game.If the humor and pop culture references in the GBA script twist your knickers, I'd recomments you try the FFV Clean Edition romhack. It updates the script in many ways (as well as naming some of Faris' pirates after Biggs and Wedge), and also comes with a lot of QOL improvements like L/R menu swapping and a dash button. It also has custom sprites so your characters wear their job costumes on the map screen as well as in battle. (Everyone is a white mage here because I was doing a Fiesta. Makes them look like a little cult, lol).https://romhackplaza.org/romhacks/final-fantasy-v-clean-snes/
>>4010385Kain wasn't "in" on anything. He was just a douchebag who was easily tempted by power and women, and that weakness made him particularly vulnerable to being manipulated. Kain was a pawn for almost the whole game, which is precisely why he goes on a journey to improve himself at the end.
>>4009553Sometimes it's nice for the extra challenge. I like the new content for FF5 because it gives you a chance to really abuse the job system against some stupidly strong enemies. Plus it's fun to be able to kill Enuo. That said, the actual dungeons are pretty meh, and the only new sprite is Enuo while everything else is just recolored. If you want to really fuck around with FF5's jobs sytem, I recommend the FF5r hack, which remixes the game to be a whole lot harder, as well as including concepts, enemies, and bosses from other FF/Square games. There's tons of great custom spritework and fuckhard bosses that will force you to gid gud at every job, and rewards you for doing so as well. It was made in Japanese, but there's an english version here:https://www.romhacking.net/hacks/8332
>>4011304I was younger at the time I played this but wasn't it loosely implied there was sexual tension here with lenna like going 'by herself' in the room?
>>4009211For FF6, emulate the SNES version on latest Snes9x. While not needed, you can also use a comprehensive fan patch of your choice to fix gameplay bugs or modify the script. https://www.romhacking.net/?page=hacks&game=302
>>4011634What I wouldn't pay for a pixel remaster in a style like this
>>4011304I just find the whimsical elements are plenty evident from the context.
Emulate the GBA versions with the SNES soundtrack hacked in
>>4012035No
>>4012035don't do this. it is still emulating the GBA audio chip, which is inferior to the snes' audio.
>>4012503>inferior>don't do thiswhy can't we be okay with our own taste? why should we appease your tastes?
>>40092274 actually did get a 3d remake like 3
>>4012786if you prefer shitty music, then by all means go ahead and do it, but the other 99% of us prefer the actual SNES audio.
>>4012812>shitty unless you can prove it is shitty to what you deem as superior, then it isn't
>>4012786Because you are making bad recommendations. Giving terrible advice.
>>4012970>Because you are making bad recommendations. Giving terrible advice.I'd argue I'm not the one giving a heavily biased, opinionated advice.
>>4009227The DS remake of IV is the best one if you want extra content and a challenge. The Steam port is easier but still offers extra content. The originals were good, you can't go wrong, but the remastered versions on GBA or DS have the extra dungeons and super bosses. If you can deal with the graphics and audio being subpar then emulate away and play them that way.The pixel remasters are overpriced cash grabs, but that's how economics works and capitalism thrives so I get it. Still they could have at least put in the effort to add the content from the handhelds. They claim they wanted to be "faithful to the original" but that's just a PR lie. The truth is they were too lazy and didn't want to spend the resources getting the code from the GBA and DS versions so that they could implement them into the Pixel Remasters.Greedy, stupid cunts.
>>4009211For IV I recc either the jap og version, DS, or PSP.
>>4009211snes9x: ffiv and ffvpsx: ffvi
>>4012841Audio engineering is a finished discipline, jackass. We solved the riddle of sound fifty years ago and the only remaining variables are the resources and talent of the people doing the thing. Sometimes it's good, sometimes it's supposed to be bad, and sometimes it's a waste of money to make everything hq and/or lossless. These are specific metrics with practical, replicable applications. Your faggot opinion is just noise.

>>4009217This, remasters are always the way to go
>>4011304>as well as naming some of Faris' pirates after Biggs and Wedgeholy shit I'm downloading this right now!
>>4012786If you're applying hacks anyway, you may as well hack the original rom. You will have objectively superior audio and video and you can add any specific hack you want (qol/translation/randomizer/graphics/content/etc).
