Are you worried about the quality of Bethesda's games after the Microsoft layoffs? Will TES 6, Fallout 5, and Starfield 2 still be good?
>>
>>4014079
Just trimming the fat
>>
What games? They haven't released any games that anyone has cared about for almost 15 years.
>>
Starfield wasn't a higher quality game because it had hundreds more people working on it.
>>
>>4014079
>Are you worried about the quality of Bethesda's games after the Microsoft layoffs?
No.
>Will TES 6, Fallout 5, and Starfield 2 still be good?
No.
>>
>>4014079
No I was "worried" before. They haven't made something of their quality since Morrowind. Fallout 3, NV, and 4 aren't even fallout games they just wear the corpse as a skin.
This is a good thing. Let them die. ES6 is not coming. Fallout 5 is not coming.
>>
Let's hope they got rid of the pink haired fat women and diversity hires. But they probably fired the only men that had left.
>>
>>4014079
They have not been good for 15 years, they will not be good for the next 15

It's obvious they fired white men to replace them with jeets. Microsoft is an Indian company.

What Microsoft said makes sense, xbox live services are getting destroyed, probably by steam. Once people grow out of their babby consoles, they move on to the superior gaming platform (and for a variety of other reasons).
Bethesda and id lost some shit, but desu, they havent made good games in over a decade. Quake Champions and Starfield were embarrassing flops, and Bethesda has had a long history of being dogshit anyway, and were practically carried by degenerate modders and gooners. Funny enough, I actually enjoyed 76 when everyone else didn't, precisely for the reasons everyone else hated it; no stupid as fuck bethshit story and dialogue. Bugs? Whatever. Daggerfall was worse and I lived through that just fine.
Anyway, makes more sense to me that they're just trimming all the shit from those companies. Those companies will have to do better with less, and thats a strong motivator.
>>
>>4014224
And I always forget id made more Doom games. I look at that garbage and it makes me laugh, then I forget they exist.
>>
>>4014104
In any case, what they're replacing them with is going to be somehow worse
>>
>>4014079
I don't expect quality from Bethesda under any circumstances.

No, I was worried once I saw Starfield

They have so much feedback on what their games should have or how to make them, if they choose to ignore it it's entirely on them.

Tainted Grail is making them look like hot garbage esp. when you consider team size and budgets.
It's going to be even worse for them when someone integrates actual AI for NPC behaviors into an RPG that finally delivers on the promise of the bucket of malformed scripts that was "Radiant AI", which itself is a level of technology the current garbage DEI devs can't even aspire to anymore.

The idea of the next elder scrolls game being so shit even modders don't like it seems worryingly possible down this road, but I'm kind of inclined to agree. It's been what, 15 years since skyrim came out, and they still haven't put out a new elder scrolls game? That's bullshit. Maybe I'd feel differently if I liked Fallout 4 or felt anything other than disinterest in Starfield in the first place
>>
>>4015057
They already did this with Skyrim. Check out Skyrimnet.
>>
>>4015352
Starfield almost universally bored the fuck out of everyone except the kind of terminal I h8 magic autists you find here.

How did they fuck this up, Warhammer and WoW did it fine with 40k and Starcraft.
All they had to do was put you on a Star Trek style ship and populate the universe with Khajeetis in starfighters and mysterious Dwemer and Atlmer worlds to explore.

Instead we got retro NASA + more DEI simulator. Is this what Elder Scrolls would have been like if LSD had never been invented? Just Todd and his cold lifeless spreadsheet of a soul?

Since nobody on /vrpg/ seems to have any clue or perspective on Zenimax Online Studios

>In 2018, ZeniMax began to work on a new MMO, new IP
>The team for the game had expanded to 300 people by this time, and was aiming to release in 2028
>In 2025, ZOS had over 461 employees
>cancellation of the game and layoffs in 2025
>2026, 213 employees laid off
Woah, enough information to make an anon's head spin. But we can make a few assumptions.

1. A new IP cancelled = no need for hundreds of employees
2. New IP meant to launch in 2028 = TES Online wasn't going to be getting full attention for long

And as a more personal opinion: I wouldn't fund another IP in the form of another MMO that takes a decade to launch and another decade of support.

umm, chud sisters Microsoft is in the process of gutting their gayming division. Why would they issue more H1B’s for that specific division if that were the case? They’ll be more reliant on Ai slop to develop these games if anything. (But yes, for other divisions in Microsoft there’s no doubt that they’re replacing everyone with H1B Indians, just not their Xbox gaming division)
>>
>>4016185
Around 2k issued and that’s for the entirety of the company, not the gaming division

More izzat. Racial grievances from deep-seated feelings of inferiority. She (Indian) fired 3,000 Americans and applied for 5,000 H-1Bs from India. You are fucking stupid.

Those 2k visas were for the entirety of the company. Microsoft had been open about wanting to gut their gaming division for awhile now dummy, they want LESS people in the division (including H1B), not more. Copilot and AI will probably have a hand in development going into the future

They spent 400 million on Starfield and look how shit it was. If it was a 10 million game, it might be well received. There's no way the puppetmasters are going to let TESVI cost that much.

>>
>>4014079
What at all about trends in AAAAAAAAAAA gay-ming studios makes you think anything from a major corporate developer is going to be any good anymore?

We are all infinitely better off all these old IPs become abandonware for modders who are actual fans. At least when they do something retarded I can call them a dumb nigger faggot and the worst thing they can do is ban me from their trannycord, lol.

Just let good franchises lie bro. That is the, "good ending," in the industry today. That and old games being kept alive by fans working on them. Studios need to start having the creative integrity to just go out on a high note like Half-Life did. Let the story end and admit when a follow-up isn't ever going to meet expectations.

Also, actual monkey-pox upon the children of developers complicit in bricking old games with pointless forced updates to run off modders. I hope they die of AIDs begging on the street for change.

>>
>>4014079
From Microsoft point of view, they paid big bux for two very popular IPs and all they got was absolute the fuck nothing for like 10 years.

There is no excuse for Bethesda to spend 10 yead on a game while others equivalent studio, like Fromsoft, can basically have one release a year.

First they'll give the IP to a third party like Obsidian, and if they make a good game thy'ill just dismantle Bethesda and just have third parties devellop games. Those layoff are jsut the beginning I'm affraid.

If you work a Bethesda and want to keep your job you SHOULD start asking question to management. The worst they can do is fire you but it will happen if your studio is as inneficient and innefective as it is.

Think about it: they didnt even have a Fallout game to go with the Netflix serie release. wtf thats like business 101.

Because most people think that the studio makes the game and not the people who work in it. This is a very common misconception about any enterprise, where people abstract them a self running machine.

Truth is that no matter the ''culture'' or the organisation inside those walls, if the qualified people are not there, it doesnt matter if the studio ''made'' 10 great game, the next one is going to be shit.

Work is a reflection of the worker. From hammering nails on a wooden plank to programming games with the tallest mountains you can climb.
>>
>>4016198
They cant, the main problem with Bethesda is that EVERYTHING has to go through Todd. This wasnt a problem when the studio was relatively small, but post-skyrim Bethesda bloated but the botleneck stayed at the top level.

I see little reason to expect any quality from Bethesda at this point. Starfield was one of the most boring, creatively bankrupt games ever made, with a story that could be topped by ChatGPT 3.0. Fallout is over as the dogwater show is canon, retconning everything from the west coast, rendering every piece of worthwhile lore that we had useless. The best we can do is huff copium hoping that Obsidian may be able to do something nice with the NV remaster, though I won't hold my breath for it, since Obsidian has gone in a massive spree of bad game after bad game. >Just timming the fat
It's just this. I did a little digging and they're basically dropping people who don't actually contribute such as "team coordinators".
When they had 5 artists in a room one was a coordinator who was paid to look over the other guys shoulders and to check quality/consistency were to guidelines. They've now dropped that posistion. Said coordinator was given a choice, take redundancy or take a pay cut and do the same amount of work as the people whose shoulders they've been looking over. Some of their egos couldn't handle it so they walked. There was then a second round of layoffs to account for the people didn't take redundancy and they removed the weaker artists in the teams.
So now, you have the same as before, 4 guys in a room making art, only now they don't have someone looking over the shoulder constantly and they're more accountable for their own assets.

Going forward you might seen a drop in quality control (you have one coordinator for every 50 artists instead of 5), but that could also work the other way and improve consistency because you have the same standards being held over a wider team.

I don't see people talk about f4 or starfield or make memes about them which is a thing I cannot say about skyrim in particular and TES in general
>>

There are few reasons why skyrim had such cultural impact:
- it was at the time the only game like it on consoles
-marketing
-11/11/11 release date which accidentally invoked some sort of meme magic
-good art direction
-amazing ost
it being ''goood enough'', which is debatable, matters not, as long as you were le superviking killing dragons

>as long as you were le superviking killing dragons
This is simultaneously a good criticism and a bad criticism. From playing the game itself, at no point does it make you feel like choosing to be a “traditional nord” would be the better option. There’s almost 0 ingame response to player race and the game never pushes you to be a nord

Yet also the game provides no alternatives if you want to play as a different character. If you indulge people’s roleplaying somehow a barbarian nord and an altmer mage and a dunmer assassin all arrive at the same narrative point, you are dragonborn. The choice is an illusion, any choice you make winds up in the same place anyways

You're supposed to surmise that playing as a Nord is the correct type of character for the game based on the setting and the context, I suppose, rather than the game stating it or nudging you, so much so that every character I ever made in Skyrim was always a male Nord. There's a little fixed throwaway line when entering Whiterun where one of the NPCs says "well met, kinsman" such that I thought it was just the line, but if you're any other race he says "well met, traveler" which caught me by surprise the first time I heard it.

Yeah a couple random lines change, but other than that it’s meaningless. If it were truly meaningful you should have people refuse to sell to you or something depending on race.
