I just beat Quartet and it was pretty good, certainly not a scam.

Whenever the artists test it, they'll complain about getting into battles, or the rate being too high or too low or whatever else. Visible encounters can be fun, and in this case it probably will improve the game, so I don't hate the idea. It just feels like they don't appreciate random battles enough, and don't realize that giving them up means losing something too. It's a trade-off, not a straight upgrade. People act like random encounters are obsolete or something, rather than an intentional part of the design. I'd fight for it, but the visible encounters do feel nice for our game and if everybody else is happier I don't want to force random battles on them.
