I wasn't expecting this to be so genuinely goodThe first JRPG with a party and they honestly got almost everything rightIt's genuinely non-linear after you get the boat, no tricks, you can get crests in any order pretty much. Enemies stay at pretty much the same power level throughout the world to compensate but it's not unbalanced since your party also levels slow.Prince of Cannock sucks though that might be the only real flaw
>>4020492wait til you play 3
>>4020492My phone ringtone is the overworld music to this game. Grew up playing DW. They were my first RPGs as a little kid and I still treasure them. Glad you enjoyed it.>>4020494Yup. The class changing aspect was so good and addictive. The remake they released a while ago sucked, IMO. The translated SNES rom of it is the best way to play. Though he should start from the NES/Famicom one first.
>>4020543>The translated SNES rom of it is the best way to playI like the GBC versions of the first three games but it's all personal preference
>>4020494I've been curious why people think 3 is so much better. 2 is my favorite DQ and I started 3 and I didn't get too far into it, but so far it really only had being able to make my own party. Everything else was pretty standard DQ up to the point I got.
>>4020492people underrate 2 for several reasons>wahhh it's too hard i need to grind (never used buffs debuffs or status effects, bad at videogames)>wahhh it's too confusing i need a guide (fair, there are some cryptic things in the game that truly do pretty much require a guide)>wahhh there's not enough talking and story (fully invalid)>>4020561if you're blind to all the surprises 3 has to offer, it's a fully immense video game and you should definitely give it another shot. i like 2 more but 3 has some magical moments in it.
>>4020492last area sucks
>>4020571The grinding is a totally legitimate concern, there's no way to be reasonably levelled for the Cave to Rhone when you first get access to it.
One complaint I have is that Metal Babbles are worthless meme enemies with an obscene amount of HP, so you have to fucking grind these faggots and they're so miserable to fight even when you're right next to a heal/save point
>>4020492>I wasn't expecting this to be so genuinely goodDid you think that the Japanese RPG market exploded because of a average game? People lined up around the block and there were news stories for weeks in anticipation of DQ3 because this game was so good.
>>4020983they all seem pretty weak to insta death
>>4020865i played the gbc version so i don't know how the nes one is, but you literally gain like 3k exp per fight in there and when you get there it takes like 30k to level up. the whining about grinding is absolutely overblown to hell and fucking back. there's even a shrine with a free healing and saving spot. and you already have access to all the status effect spells you need to succeed in that area, those are all extremely low level spells and just look how effective they are: >>4020983frankly it's probably just people having fatigue. "i'm supposed to be at the end of the game! why should i have to power up for the final battle?!" type of thing.
>>4021112Unless those percentages are resistance to those things which would make more sense
>>4021112>>4021121>>4021127it's resistances i'm pretty sure
>>4021127>>4021130they're not. i was silencing blizzards constantly because they spam instant death spells if you let them. status effects don't always work but they mitigate so much. considering the other option is "bawww im not even gonna try im just gonna mash attack until i die" like...
>>4021121The grind itself is overblown, yeah, but it still annoying to suddenly have to grind after the whole game up to that point has been very well balanced. Also the free save/recovery isn't useful initially because the grind is necessary for the Cave itself, before you get to that shrine.
