Will there ever be a more influential, revolutionary JRPG?How often per week do you think about Chrono Trigger?
>>4024897Yes
Such a pure and beautiful talehttps://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0LmF1I3kgHk
>>4024902Crazy that the best jrpg was made by the french in 2025
>>4024902wasnt this AI?
>>4024913No
>>4024902desu it never felt much like a JRPG to me, both in a stylistic sense and party build. it was still pretty good though they dropped the ball in the last act
>>4024897>destroy Lavos without defeating Azara
>>4024897>influentialno>revolutionaryno>good gameyes
>>4024902Peak rip off slop.
>>4024897I think Chrono Trigger fans don't talk about Chrono Trigger at all, they just like to gush about how good it is without explaining why
>>4025010It was somewhat influential. At the very least, it influenced Final Fantasy VII which was influential. But it wasn't influential in terms of novel innovations, just streamlining and tuning. It was never considered revolutionary or even especially evolutionary, just polished and fun.
>>4025165Not true at all, but on this dead 4chan board it seems more common for haters to respond to lazy engagent bait by loudly and angrily advertising how CT and its fans live in their heads rent-free.
>>4025168ITT and OP's opening statement already proved thateven on /v/ I never see CT threads without a bait subject/statementif you have a counterevidence then show us, otherwise just a falseflagger
>>4025032>PeakAlphie lingo>Rip offWho did it rip off exactly? >Sl*pNobody, who used this word, ever had anything of value to say.
Kato wrote some more Chrono Trigger/Chrono Cross lore into his phone game a few months back>the Chrono Cross Dragonians were pulled by the planet from the AE Trunk Timeline>Magus got shattered across all dimensions after getting curbstomped by the Dream Devourer in CT's new content and lost his name, face and memories: if Alf/Guile took off his mask in CC he would have an empty hold where his face was>red crystalline entity lmao
>>4025719>Kato wrote some more Chrono Trigger/Chrono Cross lore into his phone game a few months backChrono Trigger is a standalone game and never got a sequel or anything else. You’re welcome.
>>4024913Not particularly. Just astroturfed to hell and back. It obviously worked, proving the bell curve meme in the process.
>The Myth: Chrono Trigger invented the concept of carrying your stats into a second playthrough. The Reality: It invented the exact phrase "New Game+" (強くてニューゲーム / Tsuyokute Nyū Gēmu, meaning "New Game while Strong"). However, the concept itself existed earlier. For example, Zelda II: The Adventure of Link (1987) allowed players to restart the game while keeping their levels, life bars, and magic.>The Myth: Chrono Trigger was the first JRPG to feature characters combining their unique abilities into joint attacks. The Reality: The Sega Genesis JRPG Phantasy Star IV—which came out in Japan in late 1993, well before Chrono Trigger—pioneered a complex "Combination Magics" system. In that game, if specific party members cast certain spells in an exact order during a round, they would automatically trigger a massive, screen-clearing combo attack.>The Myth: Chrono Trigger pioneered the death of the annoying random encounter by putting enemies directly on the overworld map.The Reality: Action-RPGs like Secret of Mana (1993) already did this, but pure turn-based JRPGs had experimented with it too. Games like Lufia II: Rise of the Sinistrals (which was in development around the same time) and several obscure Japanese PC-98 games featured visible enemies.>The Myth: Chrono Trigger was the first JRPG to feature a time-traveling plot where past actions alter the future world. The Reality: Dragon Quest V (1992) featured prominent time skips and a brief time-travel mechanic. More explicitly, the Square-developed JRPG Live A Live (1994) was directed by Takashi Tokita (who also co-directed Chrono Trigger). Live A Live featured seven distinct chapters set in entirely different eras (from Prehistory to the Sci-Fi Future) and served as the literal structural blueprint for Chrono Trigger.
The reality of Chrono Trigger enjoyers:>I have fond memories of playing this classic game as a child. The gameplay was simple but fun, it had memorable characters and a compelling story, and great music. The myth of "Chrono Trigger enjoyers">THIS IS THE GREATEST GAME OF ALL TIME AND IT INVENTED EVERYTHING AND EVERYTHING ELSE IS RIPPING IT OFF, THERE WEREN'T EVEN VIDYA BEFORE CHRONO TRIGGER. CHRONO TRIGGER REVOLUTIONIZED THE ENTIRE GENREThe Hegelian synthesis:>paragraphs of LLM garbage attacking strawman arguments raised by no one, and seething false flag bait, desperately hoping for some (yous)Grim. Is there any other game that triggers such a psychosis?
>>4025940How do we debunk this?
>>4025979Chrono Trigger is the game with the fewest flaws, no padding, no tedious gameplay, no graphics or camera angles that aged poorly, no weird fanservice or plot holes. It’s simply one of the most perfect games, if not the most perfect. Look at FFVI: they're often compared, but CT doesn't have VI's flaws (half the party is useless, World of Ruin ruins the pacing, comedic relief at inappropriate moments)
>>4025987LLM saar strikes back
>>4025989Good argument.
>>4025735nah bro I literally killed Lavos' Manager in that gamehttps://anothereden.wiki/Lavoger
>>4025940These arent myths, noone on earth is claiming chrono trigger invented placing enemies directly on the overworld map
>>4025719why does everyone hate what Kato did with Magus? there's no way magus would ever have a real happy ending, I think it's fitting
>>4026047He doesn't even get the benefit of getting unfucked by Chrono Cross's ending as he gets fucked by Dream Devourer before it enters the Darkness Beyond Time, meaning it doesn't get undone by freeing Schala.
>>4026057as long as schala is saved in the end, I doubt magus would have cared
Septerra Core is better than Chrono Trigger in every way except for its level design (Septerra has time wasting bloated levels).Change my mind.
>>4026085the combat is slow and tedious, to the point where it significantly affects player enjoyment.
>>4026047>A garbage sequel that no one wanted, to a game that was completely wrapped up and finished, and went out of its way to absolutely shit on every party member people liked in the originalAm I talking about Chrono Cross, or Baldur's Gate 3?
I just started playing this game recently. I just beat Heckaran, and I'm starting on the second 600 AD section. Is there anything wrong with wanting to keep the party as just Crono, Marle, and Lucca the whole game? For some reason, it just wouldn't seem right to swap either of them out.Would I miss out on story between them and Crono? Or maybe there's just going to be a boss that's immune to everything but Ice, so you've got to go all the way back and get Marle to help you out.
>>4025238This board is dead. For an example of a thread topic you might have seen in the past, before soulless ghouls like you killed it, would be debates about whether you should kill Magus or take him in your party. There have been discussions about your favorite party combos. My OG Lavos party was Chrono, Robo and Marle. Lifeline and the group heal make the party nigh unkillable while haste and ice tackle make up for Marle's inherent low offensive power. And that's not counting chrono cross threads where debates about story canon happen. And that's all for a game that, for many, is just a fondly-remembered, high-quality game they played as a child and have no particular need to discuss it (or even defend its merits to malicious, obviously bad-faith trolls who have no genuine interest in anything).
>>4025238And judging anything on /v/ by the last few days you haunted it isn't indicative of anything. Anything and everything vidya related is fair game there and the population is ever-changing.
>soulless ghouls like you killed itpretty broad projectionat least i summoned the real CT fans in this threadalthough I still have yet to see how it compares to other existing JRPGs while you fanboys still keep saying it the best without any actual weighted comparisons
>>4025987>no paddingyeah that's why it's so barebones. If you consider World of Ruin ruins pacing then I would say the Millenia Fair and the Chrono goes to Prison as bad pacing as well.>camera angles that aged poorlythe fact that there is positioning but is actually uncontrollable in battles says hi>Half the party is uselessI don't see this as a flaw, because it is novelty. if you want every character to be good then you want them to be like FFVII characters which has no standout qualities other than their limit break.Yes CT has different skillsets for each character but since it's all pretty balanced then there is no novelty in it>comedic relief at inappropriate momentsI think that's part of the charm. Being able to laugh in dread is a rare thingA game might have less flaws but it also shows a lack of ambition and trying to appeal to the most mainstream fans as possible
>>4025987>World of Ruin ruins the pacingWoR is the main gamethe entire thing exists to justify a SaGa style open world in a FF game after they all really enjoyed maying RS1/2
>>4026374You can swap party members at almost any time except during battle. There are a few exceptions for plot sequences.
>>4026462yeah, but should I? must I?I'm just wondering how viable it is to have a "canon team" or a "main team", and what I'm missing by doing or not doing so.
>>4026102kato isn't even shitting on magus, it's a logical conclusion to his arc. magus either dies if frog decides to take revenge, fucks off somewhere if he gets to tag along, and then one version manages to go all the way after schala-lavos and gets wiped into someone else (just like schala - kid). there's no "shitting on" here, magus was always gonna push the envelope and even throw his life away to save schala.
>>4026465>I'm just wondering how viable it is to have a "canon team" or a "main team"Perfectly reasonable. Pick whomever you like and want to use.
>>4026374>heckin heckan Heckaran
>>4026545that's his name, don't wear it out.
>>4024897Wouldn't that title go to Wizardry? It directly influenced the series that is considered the most influential for JRPGs: Dragon Quest.
