Just finished the Unity ending to Look Outside. Does anyone else feel like it was incredibly underwhelming and lame after the added effort of fighting Sybil throughout meat world? There wasn't even a single context clue about the big reveal so it comes entirely out of left field. The Promise and Denial endings are way better imo. I thought the transformation of Sybil was incredible because I remembered in real time that she had merged with the entire building and that boss battle was memorably difficult despite having a full and max level party, so the ending sucking was such a huge letdown.

Confirmed balance tweaks coming in 2.4:
>Morton has his ultimate item, the Puzzle Box
>Papineau gets several defensive/healing and offensive skills that use cleaning items in your inventory
>Calm Dan buffed, and the start of a stream gets more viewers based on how well the previous one did, however Beg For Money will reduce the maximum amount of viewers you can get. Quest will permanently increase viewership
>Some of the beef in Lyle's bedroom is unable to be picked up unless you're starving, as a way of checking whether you're still on track for the Ascetic challenge (similar to the plant now only having the talk option if you're lonely)
>Roaches learns Roach Blizzard at level 15
>Voidblade skills have a melee tag and breakrate
>Spine has a "Graft" skill that gives equipment and an associated skill when used on an enemy, can only be replaced by using Graft again
>Spider is able to equip the rarer weapons (some examples are Voidblade, Ocular Tetherblade, or Spine Dagger)
>Keep the Change and Machine Tackle got buffed, and Overdrive Chip has two new modes: Economy (reduced STM cost but slightly reduced stats) and Self-Repair (10% life regen but 5% STM loss)
>Monty has level scaling with his skills (Pyromania for example will now do 100 + [level]*10 damage to all enemies) and is able to use Masterpieces for double damage. Xaria is also buffed
>Rat Child can now learn Devour from Joel
>You are able to duplicate the Indigo Mask and have separate uses for each instead of them having the same pool of daily uses
>Long Haul Flow no longer makes you lose control, and has 15% MP regen instead of 10% + last 8 turns
>You are able to unequip the Filthy Ring
>Unmask has been buffed to only hurt/confuse/stalk enemies (but costs 4 STM)
There's also localization on the way, with French being the first language the game will be translated into.

A personal headcanon of mine is that you dont immediatly lose your sanity after becoming cursed, you only lose it if your own mind cant handle being turned into some form of horrific messy beast. That's why some characters can keep their sanity after mutating through having either social interactions, a strong mind or just being so depressed that they dont even give too much of a fuck about their mutations since they want to kill themselves as is (like fish tank girl, forgot her name sadly) and why ones who end up in tragic or shitty situations immediatly turn violent and psychotic (tooth apt crew)
Again being turned into a bunch of fingers and hands is likely to cause a real number on your mental state. No clue how this applies to animals who got transformed or inanimate objects who did too though

Explanation that Unity ending provides is childish in comparison to Truth that goes very well along "Cosmic Horror" this game tries to partake in.
It would be much better if it was vague or handled similiary to how Rathole explains what happened to him.
>>4025478
>Rat Child can now learn Devour from Joel
Devour that gives Joel max HP? I assume that it will be a skill costing stamina, but still. Joel would be just picked to make Rat Child learn that skill and only that, as the only thing he would have over it is Teeth Storm. It's really strange change for me.

>Herodotus, in his Histories (Book IV), provides the earliest known account of Zalmoxis, blending myth and historical reporting. He describes Zalmoxis as a former slave of the Greek philosopher Pythagoras, who, after gaining freedom and wealth, returned to his homeland.
>There, he introduced teachings about the immortality of the soul, asserting that death was merely a passage to a place of eternal happiness. To reinforce his claims, Zalmoxis built an underground chamber, where he lived in seclusion for three years, leading his followers to believe he had transcended mortality.
I thought Lyle's chuuni persona simply bore an autistic original name, I wasn't aware that he named himself after a historical hikikomori cult leader.
>>
>>4025503
I guess Joel will only be good for early game since why bother feeding him when the Rat Child is there and is more useful.
>>
>>4025503
Frankie plans to give Rat Child a skill for every party member. One idea that Eric gave for The Spider's skill is the Rat Child vomiting some kind of corruptive bile.

It's funny how adopting the rat is somehow treated like the true route among fandom if the art and screenshots I mostly see are anything to go by. I rarely see fanart with Sam having both arms nowadays. Or maybe it's just me and my bubbles.
>>
Why doesn't Joel have dialogue for the rest of his heavily mutated family members?
>>
>>4025661
Well that reinforces his DnD campaign being a way of coping with his chronic loneliness.
>>
>>4025795
It also perfectly matches the fact that you only get a good ending for him in Promise if you finish the DnD campaign before. It's the only way of bonding with him outside of his obsession with Sam because it's a hobby he can share with others. And probably a roundabout way of conveying some of his issues and interests. IIRC the campaign episodes are the only times he is able to talk normally, without stuttering.

surprising lack of penis monsters in this game
>>
>>4026860
Frankie more or less shares age rating systems' aversion to sexual content (and tolerance of gore). To paraphrase him, the closest he's willing to get to something approximating rape is Spine. Vincent is a party flasher without any cock showing. Madison rips off her top to show you her mutated breasts but you can rationalise that as her thinking you're Rosie.
>>
>>4026860
Marcus ate all the mutated penis creatures
>>
>>4026867
>>4026932
Oh, how could I forget about him
Well, I guess you could argue that since the uterus is an internal organ, it's not inherently sexual.
>>
>>4026860
I think it's pretty surprising that Frankie can pull a couple uncomfortable designs like the ones in the teeth apartment without having to directly rely on too much blood or human genitalia like a lot of body horror does as a cheap way to get a reaction out of the player

I didn't even notice that Lyle was a spider until I clicked on some 4chan threads. It's so obvious now, but back then I didn't think much about the fat ass nor the other parts and simply perceived him as some sort of classic Lovecraft monstrosity. It's kind of what spiders are, but still.
The fact that he's also largely inorganic to the point at which he's giving off machine noises when he moves makes him strangely horrific somehow.

Audrey's fate is tragic. With Leigh, Lyle and others there are heavy implications that the transformations are at least partly connected with their personalities and obsessions. I think it was rushed and that they needed to elaborate it way more
If ingame assimilating everyone in the unifying embrace of the truth as you see everyone hit with the same truth you learned and then fade into your he sameness without a second thought or fight to the bitter end (even suiciding out of sheer refusal to become you again) would be compelling or not?, unsure. Probably not.
But some more slides showing the freaky as shit imagery of buildings coming alive and the assimilating mass spreading out from the apartment would have been nice.
Like they say some stuff in text that I hoped to see visuals of and I think that's the most to hope for if it gets anything additional.
>>
>>4027500
(Basically an endgame sequence where you ingame do what is at most implied in the truth ending as an unstoppable spreading body horror is a thing I think would be neat but I don't expect it, it's just a thing I sometimes think on)
>>

It sounds profound until you remember we are all star stuff anyways yet clearly have a sense of self seperate from the sun despite knowing that.
"Okay cool" is how I think most would react so you get people saying it's an eldritch solipsism deal where sam took it to heart too hard to explain why they were the catalyst for melding everything back to the visitor.

It's much closer to the belief in an almighty god who dreams reality and is about to wake up. Isn't that what Vishnu is basically about? With every other god and every human in existence being but a figment of his imagination while he's asleep, dreaming?

Could base Sam reasonably survive the Termina festival (F&H Termina) and get one of the game's big endings (Rehr or Logic) if he was suddenly teleported to the train at the start of the game? The whole eldritch deal always reminds me of radioactivity and nuke shit. Have all the crazy things following that, people who literally mutate, others who are born mutated and barely human and if you are near enough to an exploding atomic bomb you have the chance of literally turning into a shadow. Or have the things you currently wear burn into you (similar to how objects touches by characters in LO are merging with them, like the vending machine with Audrey or Lyle's camera). Also, eyes melting if you look at it.
The shadows are the creepiest shit though.
>>
>>4027533
It's not a "the realization drives you crazyyyyyy" story
The realization itself is what causes reality to shift and break apart non stop, it's a fragment of the Visitor becoming aware of itself and waking up back to it's original state, like anon said >>4027542 in the whole "waking up from a dream" part
It's also why Look Outside doesnt really have a pattern to how you transform or come out the other end. Some are very much based off whatever you were close to at the moment, some are just spare body parts, some represent fragments of someone's inner world and some are just whatever. It's reality realising it's own nature and bending in on itself without rhyme or reason, even your own thoughts are just part of the Visitor's subcounscious and it's why they melt into reality
I just think the whole infection thing is largely unexplained even if it seems to be a common theme in large parts of the game like the tooth apartment or the landlord's apartment. Maybe reality bended things colliding with other normal things also causes them to go all melty and gross like the bug with that one hive guy

>>
What happens if Lyle uses soul-taker on the visitor?
>>
>>4027552

>>
>>4027551
The gambling analogy is the most accurate one for a good reason. You see some cursed get lucky and then other people see that and go get cursed then die in a depressing way like what happened to Louis. The numerous endings and their range of outcomes from utopia to worse than death fates for everyone track with that too. You gamble on the gerbil as much as you gamble on the mask items or dream items. All 4 astronomers need their ritual items or they just remain a glibbering swirling mess.
>>
>>4027554
Soul Taker drinks life essence from enemies so I imagine he'd literally go insane and mutate horribly akin to the Truth ending.
>>
>>4027551
I really like that the game managed to stick to the mental shit and reality <-> realization interplay. Well besides the anime ending maybe, but that's more of a funny joke ending. There are too many stories that start fantastically and make clear that the enemy will fuck you up by simply existing, only for the MCs to defeat him thanks to the power of super weapons and friendship, and yes Mass Effect is an example of this (part 1 >>> part 2 + 3).
In that sense I like how alien the visitor stays and that you basically have to make him aware of his own existence and the difference between him and all the rest. You make him shift his attention and this influences how everything plays out. It reminds me of some mysticism I read about in which the universe is just god's mirror image which evolves as his sense of self develops by observing his reflection that shows him what he is. Anyway, it's a two-way deal. You change by observing the visitor and the visitor's self-awareness changes thanks to you, which automatically influences everything else because everything that's aware of him depends on him.
>>
>>4027540
>Does he know that everybody is aware of his shape thanks to the gigantic ass?
Funnily enough Eugene, Sophie, and Jeanne all immediately recognise him as Lyle despite how different he looks.

It's hard to know much about Jeanne's past beyond implications of being in a gang and trying to turn a new leaf so I kept having this idea that if her main conciousness head was killed the feral heads would start getting "smarter" in that they start using weapons, guns and molotov cocktails.
But I kinda after seeing the nester and eugene mutations kinda am thinking it'll be something more abominable if it ever happens.
Or not.
It's chaotic what happens to mutations. Nestor is sane enough to still technically play shopkeeper despite killing you for any slight after all. I just dread whatever the hell rafta's incubating in the back areas. New bad ending level of doom tier stuff is my guess.

In any ending after the meeting with the visitor that note most certainly loses its cognitohazard power. "Huh neat, we are descended from them." Is what it gets reduced to.

There's quite a few blue and grey colors in Sam's complexion both in the achievement art and the mirror sprites it's based on. Frank is on record for saying that he wasn't designed with a race in mind, just that he's the average of humans he draws (which aren't very many).

If you're referring to him getting wokescolded by people in his Discord, some of them left the server and he didn't hire any mods from their strain of lunacy, so he won in the end lole

the issue with the idea denial is just a different lens on truth is that truth plays out the way it does because the visitor streamed its proprioception into sam. In denial that event doesn't happen so it is strange to say it plays out the same way as truth does but same is too deluded to realize it.

I'm just perplexed at the "continuing to grow without sustenance" part, wherein in Truth, Sam is consuming all life on Earth to produce just a fraction of the brain power needed to process the Visitor.

That's the only answer I can imagine since his whole shtick is that he hates you but isn't allowed to leave.
Phillippe
>hostage/bullying victim because it's fun
Lyle
>having the most pitiful and insecure fanboy creature in existence around you for a boost of self-esteem (alternatively using him as willing cumdumpster, if anon is gay)
Aster
>???
Aster is probably the most normal character of the entire game. He doesn't really have any vices or weaknesses to exploit. At best you might want to have a guy on your side who plans to sacrifice his humanity later so that you don't have to communicate with the visitor.
>>
>>4028196
In the Promise ending the Spider sees the ritual, when done successfully, as a means to prevent Sam's horrible fate, so the most "pitiful" reason for recruiting Aster could be that you're trying to sabotage it.

Nah, that's the least "pitiful" option.
Most "pitiful" is that you can't just let them do their ritual on their own, it's dangerous out there!

Schizo aura. I knew a user from a German forum who identified me on an English forum about a different topic where I was using a different avatar and user name and two others that somehow managed to identify me on 4chan of all things. I guess it makes sense that the shady, insecure, pitch-black spider-camera that hides himself beneath a chador has to be the kinky gay shut-in next door. Plus, his stuttering is an easy giveaway.
>>

I assumed that at least one of them recognized Lyle because of him being in close proximity to Sam.

Lyle reminds me of a gay classmate I had in high school who I used to flirt with for extra attention but never reciprocated his feelings even if he was losing himself over me, following me around and liking everything I posted
I feel kinda bad in retrospect, I was a big dickhead, I should at least have given him a little kiss

Spider's reaction to DnD is even funnier once you learn that literally everything in Lyle's campaign is from Malison, right down to the gods you can worship. He must have thought Lyle was a dimension-travelling wizard
>>
>>4027779
Sam is native thougheverbeit
>>
>>4028528
Lyle is the only one besides Shadow he ever confronted isn't he? He's severe with Sam because he wants to prevent a certain outcome for him, but openly afraid from and hostile to the other two. It makes sense with Shadow, but Lyle doesn't seem like he was planning to take his soul to begin with, unless this is what (almost) happened in some alternative dimension. But I assume it's the traumatic experience he has had with certain others that have this ability.
>>
>>4028552
In Malison, The Spider is a being that restores your character back to health at the beginning of the game by transferring you into the body of someone who lived in the past (refuse and you get the game's hard mode). So he most likely thinks Lyle is using souls irresponsibly.
>>
>>4028559
So he's basically projecting?
I knew Lyle was the better spider.
>>
>>4028562
Lyle can't exactly put souls back
>>
>>4028608
he most likely can given how he was initially designed but there's no reason for him to do so in the game

>>Some of the beef in Lyle's bedroom is unable to be picked up unless you're starving, as a way of checking whether you're still on track for the Ascetic challenge (similar to the plant now only having the talk option if you're lonely)
Frankie's also appealing to vorefags by making it so that Ascetic Sam will give Fridge Horror the panic status.

It's double crazy if you have Hellen in the team as well. She's spoiling shit Lyle is about to do while the Spider is befuddled over Lyle's knowledge about their original world.
Maybe Lyle eventually ascends to godship in this timeline and makes his chuuni fantasy world become real.

I forgot the exact stream but Frankie was thinking of adding a spider-monster wizard named Zalmoxis to Malison because of the M&W campaign.

I actually hate daddy longlegs like the Spider more than fatass spiders. They're both the spawn of Satan, but the long-legged ones are even more abstract and therefor scary. Spider crabs are acceptable, though (and they taste good).

I assumed this as well, it must be why he kisses with the lens and not the mouth(s) or at least not the upper one. It's probably also his most sensitive part and perceived as the center of self, same as the face for a normal human. He's a camera as his core, the spider body is more of a secondary shape to carry that camera, so the most camera-like part must be his essence. I wonder why it's described as hot though.
