it all boils down to this in the end. the ultimate King of RPGs.who won here?state your case

no Wizardry came close to Ultima VII, or Ultima V for that matter
Wizardry wins. Because game one of that series, the systems are so well designed they still work today. When they remade Wiz1 they upgraded the graphics and changed nothing. Now Ultima, the early games are all 1980s jank where most people didn’t know how to do game design yet. In Ultima 3 the optimal route involves stat grinding for 30 hours at level 1, then bumrushing the whole game.
The combat in Ultima 3-6 also sucks. It’s not technically bad but the game has no need for and gets no benefits from TRPG combat. It just makes everything take way too long.
No, there is another.
>>4026006The optimal route in Wizardry 1 involves killing Murphy's Ghost until you're level 13 and then bumrushing the whole game.
To be fair in most CRPGs the easiest way to beat them is to grind your ass off at the start.
>>4025804Wiz7 completely mogs U7
>>4026437that's from like 7 years later. with the speed of change back then that's like the difference between 1995 and now.
>>4025789the clear winner is Might and Magic
>>4026645Ok I did forget about that part lol
>>4025789>KingChrono TRIGGER>>4025797thats a maze game.
>>4025804The combat in U7 is trash
>>4025789Ultima is much more unique, ambitious, and innovative, but as a rule I find the Wizardry games more enjoyable to play. Wizardry is narrower in scope, but better executed, and lacking the obvious flaws you have to put up with in Ultima between the good parts.
>>4027954I got into Ultima on 7, moved to 4 and currently playing 57's combat system felt like a clusterfuck compared to 4 and 5.
>>4025797Dare I say le based
>>4025789Wizardry. Ultima fell into the open world trap. It's right there in Origin's slogan: "We Create Worlds." Open world is a bad idea even with 2026 tech so it was obviously hopeless back then. Just like early 3D, people wanted it so badly they lost all discernment. Sir-Tech at least understood they were only making games. If you prefer the Ultima series you are the same kind of tastelet who thought Castlevania 64 was better than SotN.
>>4025789Wizardry won. While Ultima was groundbreaking in many aspects, Garriot whored himself to ea and destroyed the series. Meanwhile Wizardry VI had some sexy nubians and a green succubus, both with their tits out.
>>4025789ultima is open world slop before it went mainstream
>my fossil is better>no, MY fossil is better!
>>4039763Aww, someone got filtered. Maybe play an "rpg" that was made for people with your iq score, like mass effect or dark souls
>>4039769one must be really stupid to think that digging graves requires any intelligence, loooool. Something like baldurs gate i3 s times more complex than ultima and wizardry combined.
>>4039845Anon, this a blue board. If you want to discuss your favorite zoophilia game, go to /trash/
>>4039848>he said in a wizardry thread
>>4039851It's okay when Sir-tech does it. Larianfags do not deserve the same kind of leeway.
>>4039613>>4039752Open world is for white men, troon halls for everyone else.
>>4039903>Open world is for white menif that was truly the case, gta and rdr wouldn't be so popular amongst negros
One is alive, one is dead
>>4039942Can we really call it alive if it was reduced to a gacha?
>>4039957Honestly that's a fate worse than death. Ask any Fire Emblem fan.
Ultima 1 (the DOS remake) was surprisingly easy and dare I say fun to beat with a guide. Plan on carrying on with 2 soon.
>>4026674True but you should've posted a screenshot from Xeen
>>4043632>fun to beatWhats fun about sailing back and forth sign posts until your stats are maxed? Not like Ultima 2 and 3 are any better. Now you just grind money and buy your stat upgrades.
The players won. Both are different in good ways and kick ass.
>>4045247>sailing back and forth sign posts until your stats are maxed?Numbers go up. I will admit it gets tedious after five to ten hours but for the time, and once you get your head in the right space, it's serviceable.>Not like Ultima 2 and 3 are any better.Where should one start, in your opinion?
I never played any Ultima or wizardy is worth playing it nowadays ?
>>4045517If you're a fan of Fallout/Elder Scrolls like I am, going back to Ultima 7 and seeing where the inspirations came from is such a blast.
>>4045517Wizardry, yes. Ultima, it depends. Most of the Ultima games are simply not good, only one specifically holds up entirely to this day. Wizardry, on the other hand, holds up all the way through. >but the jankThere are ports of Wizardry for everything. The japs are so autistic about it that they translated it from English into Japanese and then left the English in because players learned English just to play that shit. I suppose a way to explain it to youngfags would be to ask whether or not you like isekai since Ultima, at its core, is one long isekai romp besides the first games. People play it for the story and characters, not so much the gameplay. It becomes grating when you realize the game is filled with self-inserts and the Avatar himself is supposed to be your self-insert the whole way through, which is fine but you are often punished quite severely for not doing things the proper way and the "freedom" of the series is pretty illusory. That being said, at the time there wasn't really much else when it came to plots like this and you might find it charming to look at how things were before the golden era of crpgs and before the complete destruction of crpgs.
>>4045517At least play wiz1 and Ultima 4 for historical significance. After that it’s up to you
>>4045517I'm playing through Wizardry 7 after finishing 6 now, its pretty good
