I never played a JRPG but Golden Sun I + II and Pokemon games. Which games should I check out which are must play?

>>4029726Either someone who deeply resents conversation or really likes AI. Maybe both?
>>4029641nier automata is not a jrpg
>>4029784>sidequests>explorable map>stats and level ups>dungeons>anime as fuckIts a fucking jrpg
>>4029724>"the only jrpg's i've played are for literal babies, what should i play next?>lists both valkyrie profilesThose are horrible for entry level jarpiggers
>>4029637Fire Emblem Three Houses
>>4029637Fine, I'll help you out let's start slow...>Mario RPG, Paper Mario, Paper Mario: The Thousand Year doorGreat beginner RPGS, short sweet and whimsacal art.>Sword of Mana, Secret of Mana, Seiken Desetsu 3/Trails of Mana remake,Legend of Mana, Visions of Manalast one got chinafied, but the gameplay is the same>Megaman Battle Network series >Dragon Quest 1-6 remakesOld school and you'll see where pokemon got it's muster, let's leave the later ones for when you are more acclimated to RPGS as a whole.>Chrono Trigger/Cross>Breath of Fire 1-4you'll have a great time>Final Fantasy Crystal Chronicles >Final Fantasy 1-6 collectionit will also be a great time >Final Fantasy 7-9 >DQ 8,9,11That's just for starters my guy.
>>4029637Honestly? Grandia 1 and 2, maybe Breath of Fire 3 and 4 are good Entry level Jarpigs. Same goes for Chrono Trigger. They all have their own contained Stories that have no relation to Prequels or Sequels. https://youtu.be/CrW6AQCu6eI>>4029724This list isnt bad per se but Id say that none of these - other than Ni No Kuni - are good Starter-JRPGs,
Dragon Quest V
>>4029929you might as well call the tokyo subway system a JRPG at that point, words mean things
>>4030726>Fine, I'll help you out let's start slow...The most beginner RPG would probably be Rhapsody: A Musical Adventure (by Nippon Ichi), it's one of the easiest, most relaxing shut-your-brain-off-and-watch-this-while-having-a-few-interactions-every-now-and-then kind of JRPG
>>4032907Yes, DQ 4 and 5 are good for learning how the other JRPGs evolved from one of the earliest most popular JRPG in Japan. In that way, it's good as a beginner JRPG.But I still remember in FF7 when I got to the snowy parts and the enemies were noticeably tougher. So I grinded there until literally everyone (inc. the ones not in party) are 5 levels higher, and then the difficulty became just as it was in the prior parts of the game. And then this exact same thing happened at least twice more in the game later on.Which is still nothing compared to other games like Ys where 1 or 2 levels is literally the difference between being able to hurt the enemies or not. At least this was my experience in Ys: The Ark of Napishtim (or whatever), but I digress.Anyway, both of these examples don't happen in Dragon Quest games. You have to use a bit of decision-making to keep everyone alive and think about saving up your MP or MP-items for the bosses when you are going to a dungeon. Levelling up even 10 levels later still feels like the items still matter in DQ games.By the way, try the Atelier Iris games for the PS2. There are 3 of them are they're all pretty easy and relaxing as beginner JRPGs.
>>4034013I've given examples of why it's a JRPG. You have given no examples of why it's not a JRPG. I think we both know who won this debate.
>>4034025Eh, I didn't want to start them on the NIS path yet, as you know these games are a chain of events and it's gonna really hardcore really fast if you play them in order.Like I have posted a ton of times....>NIS seriesplay in order>rhapsody>la pucelleplay the psp version or PC>disgaeapc or psp>phantom bravepc or wii>Makai kingdompsp>disgaea 2\pc or psp>prinny can I be the hero?>soul nomad>disgaea 3Vita version or PC>prinny can I be the hero? 2>Zettai hero project>disgaea 4>disgaea D2>disgaea 5
>>4030726>>Chrono TriggerWhich one, SNES or DS? (I don't know Japanese)
>>4034286Steam
>>4034287Steam is just a variant of DS version, no?
>>4034288Not him, but I think so? Looking at the steam page it mentions the endgame dungeon the DS one added. No idea if that monster raising thing is in it. Really the only thing I really liked about the DS version was it coming with the soundtrack, but I didn't find anything particularly bad about itI do find it very weird that when I accidentally looked as system requirements it was 4 gigs of ram and 2 gigs of space for what is like 95% a SNES game
>>4034291>I do find it very weird that when I accidentally looked as system requirements it was 4 gigs of ram and 2 gigs of space for what is like 95% a SNES gameIt's almost assuredly a multi-platform framework wrapped around a fork of a DS emulator and probably even a ROM that was dumped by the community. Blizzard for example released some of their old games as exes that just loaded up ZSNES. Pic rel
>>4029724>vagrant storyjrpg vets only>dragon questwhole series is bland>niernot an rpg>dot hackenjoyable world and story but the gameplay itself is pure dogshit>valkyrie profile 2definitely not recommended to newbies>legend of dragoongame sucks.>>4029929no it's not you fucking retard.>>4030726breath of fire 1 and 2 are absolute fucking garbage.>>4034045rpgs are games based on the mechanics of D&D. JRPGs are a subset based on dragon quest and final Fantasy. None of the fucking shit you've mentioned are part of the definition.
>>4029637The ACTUAL beginner rpgs are chrono trigger, FF6/7/9/10, Lunar 1&2 (modern remake or ps1 version), Rhapsody PS1, Grandia (saturn version), These are the games that get people hooked to the genre. Battle Network 2/3/5/6 and Symphony of the Night as a honorable mentions of easy rpg-adjacent games.
>>4034286Schala editionhttps://retrogametalk.com/repo/snes-rom/chrono-trigger-schala-edition-usa/
>>4039477>Symphony of the Nightthats not an RPG
>>4034341ZSNES never used 4 gigs of RAM. i think devs on Steam are just full retarded these days. nevermind woke grapist blizzard.
>>4029637>Which games should I check out which are must play?Moraff's World unless you meant you want JRPG listicles then ... Bravesearch it.
>>4039474>breath of fire 1 and 2 are absolute fucking garbage.they weren't that bad, it's just that 3+4 were so much better. Also yeah Legend of Dragoon was abject ass/
>>4039509No, they are bad. They're two of the worst RPGs I've played in my entire life and I've played hundreds. There's nothing good about them besides graphics (and only for the time). Every other aspect is trash. You would NEVER recommend that garbage if it wasn't part of the same series as BoF 3&4.
>>4039498read the post again you silly bitchI said rpg-adjacent.do you know what that means, ESL?It's a game that heavily incorporates RPG mechanics
>>4039784>anyone who pointed out something on my post is an ESL
>>4031519FFVII was baby's first jrpg for millions of millennials. it's perfectly fine as a starting point.
>>4040100Can confirm. Then went back afterwards and played all the SNES Square stuff, etc.
>>4034288>>4034291The Steam version is definitely based on the DS version. It doesn't have the Monster Arena or the Art Gallery that's in the DS version though
If you like Golden Sun you should play Shining Force which was its predecessor.
>>4029637People are bombarding you with recommendations because there's really a lot out there. Mine will come from the heart because I started out with Pokemon games and Golden Sun, too. I went on to play Final Fantasy 10 and RPG Maker games like Vampires Dawn 2 which is probably the only other game where you can mind-read NPCs.>Dragon Quest Monsters >Final Fantasy 7, 10>Chrono Trigger
To love JRPGs or RPGs in general you have to love exploration, that also means figuratively loving to explore what the genre offers to.So asking to be spoonfed for recommendation in an era where information is a commodity is crazy.
>>4047082It's a damn shame Shining just got disappeared at some point.
>>4052562to make it even more ironic shining was a series genuinely tried a lot of things
>>4047082I would have thought, with my massive ROM collection, I'd have at least heard of every RPG series. Nice to find something new. How would you say it compares to Golden Sun? Similar combat? Plot?
