I think they're neat

Anyone else playing Pixygarden? It's pretty weird and interesting. I like the catgirls.

God I played this like 20+ years ago, glad to see other people are playing it. If you like it and know Japanese, Mercurius Pretty is worth checking out too.

I'll try it, looks interesting

My one and only experience I played years ago didn't leave the best impression. Felt like a CYOA with the plot removed and a shitton of skill checks that often had no real time for preparation (aside from when you replay the game)
But I do play a ton of worker placement board games so the idea does interest me

AFAIK the PM games just got worse after PM2. PM3 onwards really leans on the "sim" parts. very restricted kinda gameplay. like tamagotchi but with a little grill. less stuff to do then PM1 and 2.
nice art work though.

I thought pm5 was neat for what it was but your not wrong.

Since I don't think my dilemma warrants a whole thread all of its own and this one seems to fit the closest from what's currently in the catalog, I'll ask here. So, I've been thinking about picking up Ar Tonerico but I'm more than a little conflicted whether or not I'm going to actually enjoy it and, by extension, whether or not to even bother potentially wasting my time on it. On one hand, I dig the aesthetic and (general idea of) the setting but, big, ALL CAPS BUT just from reading the basic description, I can already tell that not only do I not care about the whole quote unquote 'immersing myself in the internal worlds of the designated heroines, visual novel style' thing, if anything, I find it grating already, on a conceptual level. Not to mention the whole singsonging thing bordering on or maybe explicitly striving towards idolshit. Having that not only be tied to progression but, seemingly, being the core of both gameplay and plot just unreasonably irritates me. Then again, I like what I see on the screenshots, the certain, uh, technologicality of the world becons to me. I just like the mechanical design, at least from an aesthetic sense but I don't care about everything in the world revolving around vaginas, artificial or not. So, it would be appreciated if any Anon reading this word salad of a post that played these games would kindly relay his general impression of them to help me reach an informed decision.

I can't really speak to most of your complaints because they never bothered me. I will say the little visual novel bits are usually entertaining, but they're also a big part of the pull for why I played originally. You're definitely not hitting Idolshit in the games, and if you're a mega autist the language they sing in is actually pretty fleshed out. That being said even the nicest things you can say about 1 and 3 are "They're OK". The series peaked both gameplay and story/character wise with 2. Luca is a slut.

The reason to play those is the music. The plot is weak and the majority of the girls aren't very good, and the gameplay gets old fairly quick. But the worldbuilding behind the music and the language that makes up the world and lore is what is interesting, which also ties a bit into the technology that you find appealing. Try listening to a couple tracks, it's not idolshit, and if it doesn't interest you move on.

You should try Pawapuro, there's way too many of them compared to Princess Maker games. It'll take some nihongo understanding and/or use a translator via your phone or online.

forgot to say that Pawapuro is short for Jikkyou Powerful Pro Yakyuu and is a baseball RPG game with a ton of variations over the past few decades. It's been available to several different consoles and portable systems too.
There's a few similarities to Princess Maker, like the VN story-telling and choosing which stats to increase or you can have your guy do some work for money too (in certain Pawapuro iterations) jsut like in Princess Maker games.

maybe I should give this a try

Not endorsing anything though since I just play on emulators. I'm just honestly baffled by how unpopular the game is, outside of Japan.
The Success Mode(s) are the ones with a story and the ones I played let you transfer the finished stories' characters to the main roster so you can continue as a pro, if you choose to do so.

I've really been enjoying this one.

Played a bit, it's a good time. Waiting for 1.0 before diving in hard though.

I think the 1.0 just adds a post-game section, so you're safe to do a playthrough and unlock the NG+ difficulties. I don't know how long or expansive the "Second scenario" will be, but its strongly a sequel and I think all the content for the "Main path" is done
Though still, up to you of course.
