>99% of the game can be done with dungeon found equipment and zero grinding>last 1%, final boss, requires is a massive difficulty spike that requires an exorbitant amount of grinding to beatI honestly don't even know what to say. I just got fucking filtered I guess. I've never experienced a difficulty spike quite like this in a single player game.
>>4039891Do you mean the first final boss of the true final boss? Either way you don't need to grind if you're not a retard.
>>4039891Lol, same experience. I couldn’t be bothered to the bosses. In the sequel, I couldn’t be bothered to do the randomly-generated dungeons.
>>4039891i wish i liked this game's dungeon exploration more but once they introduced "just break the walls lol" i lost interest.
>>4039891When you mean final boss, do you mean the final boss or the true final boss because the final boss is a real bastard but the true final boss is just straight-up bullshit.
I didn't bother with the true ending because I didn't want to have to go to the effort of doing the soul transfers, which the true final boss seemed to require. I just leveled up my gear in the synthesis and then did a couple stockpiling runs and did the normal final boss again. It was pretty easy this time. But with where I was at when I first got to the boss it was basically impossible. Huge difficulty spike compared to what came before, which was pretty easy.
I didn't grind that much for the true final boss in refrain because I got lucky with poison. the one in galleria however is just ridiculous and I grinded to level 500 for that.
>>4040194Did soul transfers four times for the main team, the black onions in the final area were easy and the boss super hard, even worse than the witch. I won with half of the team dead.I probably could have grinded the gold monsters for a couple of level 99 transfers more, but nothing in the game made it feel like you needed it.
it makes grinding pretty easy for you with designated areas to get lots of exp
>>4041424The rest of the game was so easy I didn't really pay attention to "grinding spots". I just stockpiled on whatever fights where around the final boss area.
>grinding for tons of shit to get the pact needed to defeat Velkuvrana>finally reaches the endgame>the endgame story is sucks>cracking up my ass to defeat Heart>after billion years somehow I manage to>the ending fucking sucks + lol I'm pregnant by myselfI loved Refrain up until the endgame, but man, what a fucking trainwreck. Thanks jesus, Galleria, despite sucking even more gameplaywise, had it's story in kino limits to the very end.
>>4042542I'm thinking of playing labyrinth of Galleria next I got a copy of it awhile back. I heard refrain had a great story but I kinda wasnt pulled in by it. I mean the story had some decent twists and turns and stuff but the game has the issue of none of the characters really being likeable. Dronya is the closest to being a likeable character but still not really. Luca is annoying desu. Same with the dude who can turn into the owl. The villagers where mostly bland filler segments. I guess I kinda like the potato nun too but she's still whatever. Didn't give a shit about baba yaga nor did she leave an impression as a great villain. And the whole game hinges on you caring about Dronya and white hair girls relationship and Dronya as Luca's surrogate parent but I just didn't give a shit. And I don't really feel like the game gave me much of a reason to give a shit. If you wanna have a game hinge on a romance it's gotta be as good as yuri+Alice or xelha+kalas and this game didn't even have anything close to that. Shadow hearts 2 had a similar plot of trying to ressurect a loved one, and even though I actually think refrains plot on paper alot more, it has some genuinely cool twist and turns that should be interesting, shadow hearts 2 has the better plot because I actually give a shit about the characters and their outcomes. It's interesting you say Galleria has the better plot because I usually hear the opposite. What made it better? Also how the fug did they downgrade the gameplay besides the mass party gimmick plus tying spells to groups it's was pretty standard turn based fair. How can you fuck that up?
>>4042587>it's interesting you say Galleria has the better plot because I usually hear the opposite. nta but galleria was rushed to relase so like 1/3 of the game is missing/replaced with randomly generated dungeon segments. thats the sucky part which sours the experience quite a bit. but the actual finished content is still really good and arguably better than refrain's. but refrain is a more complete package.
>>4043300>galleria was rushed to relase so like 1/3 of the game is missing/replaced with randomly generated dungeon segments. thats the sucky part which sours the experience quite a bit.Fug... Are they spread out or condensed? Like is the final 1/3rd of the game just randomly generated dungeons because they had a huge crunch or is it bit by bit as filler spread throughout.
>>4041583There's a spot in the three tower dungeon with metal slimes and you can get enough XP to hit Lv99 in very short order.
>>4039891I want to make a clone/homage of this game and its sequel. What do you guys want to keep, remove, add? Personally:>keep- titled monster- weapon crafting system- battle system, i actually like it, pursuit, gore, multi hit, coven, etc.- wall-breaking, i love this, making it limited number (for the whole game/per dungeon) but permanent would improve it imo- multi-classing (kinda), surprisingly rare feature>remove- random dungeons- edgy story>add- disgaea-style stat and skill system, labyrinth's system is too basic imo, not much you can do with it- a town with NPCS and sidequests, i fucking hate menu-based rpgs, just feel cheap and cost-cutting- more dungeon traps and events, the dungeons can feel really empty and monotonous
>>4043391>remove edgy storyInto the trash it goes
>>4043391>edgy storyFiltered.
>>4039891It's a massive spike that feels awkward but fortunately debuff spam with the bee pact obliterates it. It just feels weird because you don't really need to pull shit like that out until then.
>>4043375it's the middle 3rd. at first it's padded out with randomly generated floors. and a bit later it skips several cut content "worlds" akin to refrains by just showing bit of dialogue with cut characters and giving you the quest item that would obviously been a reward from each world. the postgame has few man made floors and then devolves into a randomly generated mega dungeon as well. I still love galleria even with it's troubled development. fuck nippon ichi though.
>>4039891I want to fuck that witch.
>Decide to start the game again>In the third fight my luckiest character gets beheaded.I can't believe how many times I'm skipping scenes.
>>4044104While the gore system can be annoying it can also really come in handy. The boss before the final boss, I don't wanna spoil it for you but basically it's a corrupted version of someone dronya knows, one of my dps units got a gore crit and one shotted it. I think it was one of my mallet troons or maybe an aster knight.Best dps unit was marginal maze by a mile I had two whole units of 3 each of those bitches. Aster knight and the mallet troons where good too. Kinda unimpressed with shinobushi after I saw so many people on forums talk them up as the best dps class. Demon reapers where pretty meh too imo. Peerless fortress hit pretty fucking hard for a tank class too they're pretty much like a tanky dps. I used katars for two of em but gave one of the tanks a mallet for some extra blunt damage for my team.
>>4039891This game is eroge-coded.
>>4044384Oh, it's my second run, that's why I'm skipping the plot, I liked what the dungeons said far more than the witches. And gores are the charm of this game's combat, I remember I had a spinning loli with all the gore bonuses I could and sometimes random battles got really gory.Demon reapers whole sell is that multi attack you want to pick as their first ability. It happens so rarely they barely matters but I rolled one against the wasp boss and it became a free win. I remember my best damage unit was a shinobushi->cat->aster with the best two handed lance I found. Her crits made near two hundred thousand of damage.
>>4039891The postgame was like this for sure but I remember the main campaign being fairly straightforward. I may have had to drop down to easy for a boss or two (might have been for the optional bosses though).Galleria on the other hand...
I started galleria and the game is definitely more lighthearted so far. The MC is a goody goober. I was hoping they would have reworked the classes a little more but I'm definitely digging shinomashira over the shinobushi they seem way better off the bat.The first dungeon is a little annoying to navigate without mud exits though I wanna get them already.
>>4039891It was too much of a visual novel for me to really enjoy it.
>>4039986Weird to lose interest when they introduce the best mechanic but OK.
>>4039891Could anyone explain why they decided this? For both games. I don't think I've experienced this in other games, where the final boss is such a difficulty spike, that it's impossible without a lot of extra grinding. Does the story mention a reason?
>>4046024It was definitely jarring cruising through refrain only to get rekt by the final boss my first few tries. But I guess it made it more memorable in a way.
reminds me of FFX and DQ11garbage
>>4046036>reminds me of FFXSkill issue
>>4046044what? the superbosses in those games cannot be beaten unless you spent a stupid amount of time grinding, which is what OP was talking about.
>>4046093OP is talking about the final boss (end of the story)FFX superbosses are not the final boss, they're completely optional postgame "content". I agree that the amount of grinding is dumb and not worth it, which was a shame, since the optional superbosses in FF 1-9 were all beatable with a reasonably-attainable endgame party.
>>4046131>OP is talking about the final boss (end of the story)So, the heart. The witch is also a surprise bump to prepare you to the big guyAnd whoever says the black page bosses are optional or hard didn't understood the game nor it's recommendations of using soul transfer, the game even recommends it in a place where it's useful when it tells it to you and it's possible to reach level 99 once you conquer the whole dungeon.
>>4046024>Does the story mention a reason? They spend the whole story being terrified of Baba Yaga for her sheer power and she just hijacked the body of the horrifying eldritch that-which-should-not-be that has collapsed reality itself and will bring about the apocalypse, what more justification do you need?
