Any tips for someone that's new to the series? I'm getting my ass beat by random fodders.
>>4046991That's part of the experience
>>4046991not rpg
>>4046991Do the mage (the one near the venders) sidequest in old camp. There r people in the old camp that lets u party with them to the other camps. Their kills counts as your xp so just had them fight most of the encounters. U want to this for xp and for wolf teeth which is required for the mage quest.Gather the other requirements and u can now obtain a fire rune. A range attack that does a lot of damage especially early game (regarding the mana problem just go to sleep or gather herbs u find in the wild which grants mana regen). Pro tip don't bother being a mage it's not good especially in later chapters
>>4046991a) Get a ranged attack b) Exploit the terrain, so melee enemies can't reach you
>>4046991Im new as well, got about 15 hours in, recently began chapter 2. Heres some things I learned so far that were useful, ill try to keep them spoilery free>focus on ranged combat at first, you can find shortbows and arrows for free >the mapmaker in old camp charges a lot for the basic map. If you go see a merchant in the marketplace he charges half the price>loot everything that isnt nailed down. Dive into water and search, steal what you can from everyone. Your inventory space is unlimited and currency is very hard to come by>if no one sees you stealing something, its now yours. Merchants also dont seem to care whether something was stolen or not and will buy anything from you>learn2lockpick. >training matters!>different merchants buy things for different prices>pay your protection money, until you can defend yourself>talk to everyone, and be nice when talking to people>the hut in the old camp with the red tarp, near the arena, is yours to use. You dont even need to ask anyone>learn the hunting skills as soon as you can. Teeth, skins etc add up in value fast. >there is an npc in old camp marketplace who teaches magic with a quest. Take the fire spell as the reward. Its the best early game damage dealer>dont buy the first armor you find. Merchants charge way too much, and you can actually get a free set. An npc in old camp can take you to the new camp, and nearby to it is the new camp mine. If you ask the foreman to be a digger, he will give you a free set of armor. You dont actually have to do anything for him>previously mentioned npc is also part of a quest. If you talk to the old camp guard who protects the castle, you can ask about a "super important quest" and its to get the new camp npc out of old town. Talk to the new camp guy and tell him hes in trouble. He will take you to the new camp, kill all the enemies on the way and you get the xp. When you eventually return to old camp the guard guy will be happy.
>>4046991Kill things, quest and git gud
>>4046991almost none of the quests you get can be immediately solved, or in the same areaentire game is about delayed gratification and conquering previous unsurmountable obstaclesdo the no-danger questsget escorted to another camp, repeatbacktrack, get escorted to the next one, repeatget free armour from free mineif you have the chance, you can knock out the three escorting NPCs for some valuable early xp (and loot if you wanna be a pos)do Torrez's quest and pick a rune (heals is twice the value in ore but firebolt allows you a viable non-bow way to kill mobs)(optional) lockpick Lee's chest for a ring of strength(extremely optional) be autistic and lockpick everything except maybe swamp since there's not much and two chests are inaccessible until Baal Namib and Orun move out laterandgame is not difficulty per se, there's plenty of speeedrunners who finished it via bullshit strategiesplay "realistically" the first time around, don't try to play as a herofrom chapter 3 onwards you can realistically begin to clear the entire map>pic relatedthe single most bullshit fight right up to chapter 4they moved the SB, you can hardly cheese or kite it, probably filtered a lot of pure bow or pure magic buildslearn to fight
Can you get away with stealing? I lured a minecrawler to a templar which then got knocked unconscious. I looted his stuff, including his sword.
>>4056732lmao absolutely, if NPCs see you steal stuff or leave their place with stolen stuff, they will aggro either immediately or later when they see you againbut either way, you can wait a few days and it usually clears ... the crime system is (slightly) better than in the original but it's only really there to deter you at the beginningthere are other ways to cheese thoI only really bothered thieving from one camp and opened the other lockpics for xp and for a nice save before joining a campin other news I just finished talking to Xardas and I almost basedjacked everywhere. The build-up to that momentum is intense and it even surpasses the original>t. autist who played the OG 3 times
>>4046991Learn single handed weapon skill early. They nerfed fighting without it hard. From the hunting skills you need to invest it to learn, only get the one to get furs/skins. This one is related to a later quest that you'll fuck up without it (the frost shadowbeast hide for cavalorn, you can kill it before you get that quest and it doesn't respawn, and if you didn't have the skill before that you can't get it, unless they patched it ofc.). Others aren't worth it. They cost too much ore, and with the economy changes they'll pay themselves off super late, and by that point ore doesn't matter much, and before that they also cost learning points. Wolf teeth you can buy without learning the skill.Do the mage quest in the old camp and get the fire bolt rune. You can get through a lot of stuff early by spamming it and regenning mana easily by drinking water or smoking weed. You can beat people up for extra xp, but unlike the classic others around will usually fight you too, so unless someone is separated, you need to be able to beat everyone in the vicinity. Save before you try, because sometimes they might not de-aggro after you fuck them up.Unless they patched it, or you're not going for melee, max strength, then get drunk as fuck, then you can learn more of it beyond the cap. After that you can also learn from the dude in the new cap too iirc. And after that spam potions.
seems like I missed the full threads about Gothic, I guess the krauts are already back to the 2001 OG modding scene>only one third of players reached Chapter 5wtf?I suppose a lot are playing the GOG versionman the game is a 9/10 from so many regards but holy shit is the "free mine raid" a let down. Not only did they not address "le secret mountain pass" that Gomez used but the mine looks to have even LESS npcs than the original. A 15 man garrison big whoop
Lockpicking in this game is horribly time consuming. The posted solutions don't even work.https://lorthiz.github.io/gothic-remake-solved-locks
https://www.gothicsolve.com/I found a site with working lock solutions.
>>4067101>>4067266there is a steam group where ppl posted lvl 0 lockpicking combos and I found all but one to be correct, with the specific one missing one arrow
I just started the original and it seems to hold up really well outside of the controls.I switched to using a controller with that Zpad mod or whatever it's called in steam workshop, but I really wish just had the controls of Elex or something. When do the controls of Piranhabytes games get more refined to where they feel modern? Risen or something?I only really have experience with Elex. I can definitely see that game's roots all the way back here though. It basically seems like they just made Gothic in a different setting
>>4046991Is the remake good? Or is it standard "demake" with censored stuff?
>>4075145Remake is almost 1:1 to the original. It's basically a visual upgrade with a few added QoL.
>>4078137Thanks, it becomes hard to discern what is shitpost and what is reality on this site, even more since the hack.
is it worth spending LP to raise my mana so i can transform into a bloodfly to get some of those permanent stat boosting potions?
>>4047341C. Sell weed
>>4081942nvm. found a couple of max mana boosting potions
I'm getting killed easily by the Biters in the Orc Cemetery. I'm using a Longsword and Digger's Trousers. Am I under-equipped or something?
How was I supposed to know that you aren't supposed to drink permanent stat potions before hitting 100 strength? I ruined my save.
>>4083454>Biters in the Orc CemeteryOk>I'm using a Longsword Fine I guess>Digger's TrousersThe what?Digga, if I remember right Orc Cementary is after Old Mine, you should have decent armor by now.
>be millennial gamer>missed the Gothic when it came out>hear about it though>always "it's better">remake happens>ok I should play it then>boring, empty dialogue with no punch at all>story??? (to forget)>try to join the le stoner weed camp>15 tedious fetchquests later>"ur not high enough level" checkpointed>nonstop combat>yep more combat>zero defensive options, combat is basically just rocket tag with unrealistic weapons and beasts>where enemy hitbox connection absolute bullshit>post-post-post grindan and training attacking is still a crippled man stumbling on a small rock and dies tierno, this game isn't "better"fuck.
>>4067266>>4067101interesting I guess but the lockpicking isn't that hard
>>4084990I didn't mind lockpicking until encountering that underwater chest below the tavern. That shit is insanely difficult, which is coming from a person who beat the puzzle boy challenge in SMT3 without a guide.
>>4085054I just did that one literally like an hour ago, it wasn't that bad
>>4085054>>4085057I guess it would be harder if you don't get diving training. You got diving training, right?
>>4084396it's one of those games where the reasons someone likes 'em is the same someone dislikes 'emthe story only offers enough details to explain the setting, and why you're therepeople don't do that much because it's realistic i.e. they mostly want to be left alonethe world is a sandbox for you the hero because your balls are bigger and full than mostas for the difficulty, the rewards and overcoming them when possible and cheesing them when it's not, but game becomes quite easy after the initial shin-kicking session; after the first playthrough I don't think too much when playing this game since it's small enough to learn quickly>>4084165it's not required at all, first time I played I just drank them as I found them since the 1st run is the "do I like this game or not" kind of playthrough>>4083454you probably already figured it out by now; you get some faction-specific armour that you can upgrade or just get the royal guard armouramulet + rings help but I just equipped mana to aggro everything, run on top of cliff and rain of fire the place
are there enough learning points to max both strength and dexterity, and learn both sword and bow techniques?
>>4084396>>4086162I restarted and just went to magic. Now that I don't have to deal with the cripple-swing melee gameplay it's better. All other complaints still stand. Some irony in the fact that NPCs are the easiest thing to fight because they suffer the exact same cripple-swing melee as the PC does. Even before I restarted, NPCs were the easiest.

>>4046991idk how some of yall played elden ring and dark souls but can't play this rpg which is a walk in the park in comparison
>>4091498Elden Ring and Dark Souls are actually more empowering than this game (for melee). This game is quite easy once you get going but never wants you to enjoy it.
>>4091509was one or two hitting almost everything lategame and the sleeper dungeon was a walk in the park on a strength two-handed build. unmatched progression system and realistic combat.in souls games there are non stop superhero bosses that shit on you until you learn their intricate attack patterns til the very end of the game
why the fuck is there one-handed weapons if there are no shields in this dumb universe
>>4046991Lower the difficulty until you learn the game better? No idea why so many of you are resistant to this.
>>4092099why are there no shields in this game???
it's over for me isn't it? I'm getting attacked by water mages too and I can't go and tell him I need to get in because I was asked to....
>>4094196get away from the place and wait 24 hours. if that doesn't work, put all your valuables in a chest somewhere then go let them beat you up and knock you out and take your stuff. They should let you live and reset aggressionthe only other options are cheating or reloading the save
the lock puzzles are more fun than the game itself
>>4066441>Not only did they not address "le secret mountain pass" that Gomez usedBut they did, there is a way to cross from the Free Mine to the walkway over the lake near the New Camp without going through it. You need the climbing skill to get there, though.
OP here. I'm almost at the end of the game. Here are my tips from experience:- Use a walkthrough for Chapter 1 (and whenever you are stuck on where to go). The beginning is very difficult; prioritize on obtaining good 1H swords like the Lurker's Bite and Longsword - they make a world of a difference.- Learn the Acrobatic skill. It makes combat much easier by being able to cancel into roll to avoid attacks.- Don't drink any permanent stat-boosting potions until you have invested 100 into the stat (with an exception mentioned later below)- Go with the Old Camp and Shadow/Warder story route; supposedly it's the best for the first playthrough.- Prioritize on 1H sword mastery and then 100 strength.- Climbing, Swimming (and subjectively Alchemy) are useful to learn.- Invest remaining points into Bow mastery, 2H sword mastery, and then towards 100 dexterity. Drinking dexterity boosting potions before 100 dexterity is fine; it's unlikely you will min-maxing on a first playthrough to reach 100 dexterity - Use a lock solver if you don't have the patience to solve them: https://www.gothicsolve.com/- Get Scar's Sword before Chapter 4.- For Syra's questline, when you see the Fire mages out in the courtyard, google searching suggests that you can save her if you kill the guards and reach her instead of escaping with Milton. Although, some here might clarify this further.
>>4106472Also, use a guide on getting the Rideable Scavenger when it becomes available. It saves tons of time on getting across the map.
>>4046991I have only original Gothic and Gothic 2 experience. I bought the game during the summer sale (when it was 0% off) and I barely played it since then. I am afraid that I'll find out that I am getting my ass whooped by "for new kids" iteration of the game.
>>4046991I need advice on which camp to join specifically for Permadeath + Sleepless cheevo, which one is the least uncomfortable? I am doing the Old Camp quests and I think that by far the worst for this.

>>4126581Hello saar!
Is it true that Swamp Camp is still the worst but Old Camp got worse? Hated how the blues had the best everything, unless you wanted to go all in on magic early.
I haven't played this, but I see the trilogy go on sale often enough. and I saw the Yahtzee Croshaw review on the remake.Am I right in thinking that the challenge is more about strategy and preparation than actual luck or execution? Like, if you die trying to kill a wolf, your thought shouldn't be "better try again and position better" or "hopefully I'll get luckier this time" but instead should be "welp, not getting that one right now. Better do a side quest, grind a bit, or find a better weapon to stand a chance"Because if it's the latter, then I think this might be the type of game I've been looking for for so long. Progression as a puzzle to be solved, rather than a hurdle to advance pass. Also, I want to be a super-powerful wizard. How wizardly can I get?
>>4128299Try the game. I want to see you hate it.
>>4128299it's the latter. i only played using melee but i heard that magic falls off in the late-game. although, this game isn't reliant on min-maxing so build whatever you want as long as you prioritize on one first.
>>4128299>Am I right in thinking that the challenge is more about strategy and preparation than actual luck or execution? As a boomer who played the first three games and the remake, I feel like the remake is more based on zoomie reflexes, unless you play ranged. I had to all in on bows and some magic to finish the game on the hardest difficulty and I died lots. In the original Gothc and Gothic 2 (and NotR) I always played melee or spells (because of the stupid "your bow is stuck in pulled form" bug) and had no problems.>Also, I want to be a super-powerful wizard. How wizardly can I get?In Gothic 2, it's one of the best wizard experiences, you go through an entire questline of humiliation rituals just to become a wizard, but you can be a wizard from chapter 1. In Gothic 1 original you can only use scrolls early and the fastest you can become a pure wizard is after beating a boss that pretty much has to be taken out in melee combat in Chapter 2. I heard that in the Gothic 1 Remake you can learn some low level form of magic even before joining the mages at the earliest possibility in Chapter 2. I really don't like most of the spells in the remake though it feels like it takes way longer to cast them than in the original, I only ever cast a few good ones for utility and at the end game you have the option to either go with a super powerful two handed sword or a supposedly-super-powerful AoE damage spell. I couldn't even learn two handed swords because I got locked out of my teacher by becoming a wizard late but also too early, and still I chose to keep the sword rather than go for the AoE spell, even as a mage who learned up to the last level of highest spells.I would say, try the Gothic 1 Remake first, because the originals controls are probably too unorthodox for new players, and try magic just from scrolls at first and go for wizard only if you really like it. In Gothic 2, wizard from start is fine.
So, now that the dust has settled, we all agree that the remake is at best an 8/10 to Gothic 1s 10/10?
>>4130522There's still a chance that the DLC fixes things
>try to fist Okyl>nothing, he doesn't even react>5 scrolls wasted, no aggro>shoot him in the head with a bow>he turns around to attack me while being pushed back a tiny bit>before he can swing, he falls to his death
