BALS TO THE WALL
>>4047110In FF terminology, "Bal" (as in Bal Castle) is short for "Baldesion", which is the surname of both Galuf and Krile from FF5. I'm not sure what this signifies, or why they would be "to the wall", but my place is not to understand.

This is now a weird party comp thread, I'd say that mono class teams for FF1 have this difficulty order: Red Mage>Fighter>Black Mage>Thief>Monk>White Mage.
>>4055009my quick estimation of mono class teams for ff5Black Mage>Blue Mage>Time Mage>Mystic Knight>Chemist>Ninja>Summoner>Samurai>Dragoon>Ranger>Knight>Freelancer>Red Mage>Mime>Beastmaster>Geomancer>Thief>Dancer>White Mage>Monk>Bard>BersekerBlack Mage has access to a great heal if they just equip a flame ringChemist is clunky for random encounters, while the best for bossesFreelancer can break rods and barely has a magic gap compared to Red Mage due to better itemsRed Mage has a low magic stat for a mage, but they can still break rods so they're never badimba bard buffs come late, clunky otherwiseDancer has the lowest hp in the game, need to grind to survive or kill before wipeMonk needs to grind a lot of levels for the fists to compete with weapons in the late game
>>4047110i like the remake from final fantasy origins on the playstationthe battle system looks like ass on the original

>>4056353Ngl this is how I played 1 and 23 I emulated in NESticle
>play all fighters in ff1>swords for everyone in ff2>all knight in ff5>play an ff9 mod that replaces everyone with Steiner
>>4056357Most memorable FFT run was everyone was knight + white magic. Oh yeah, it’s paladin time.
>>4056356Not a bad choice, I like it since it keeps the spell charge system of the original, I feel that more games should have this system.
>>4055443>mono class teams for ff5I found this guy on youtube who did mono class, mono CHARACTER runs by keeping 3/4 of their party KO'd for the entire game. Blue Mage, Chemist, and Ninja were among some of the easiest runs, although Chemist did require a lot of knowledge and prep. Ninja was probably the easiest in terms of just pressing the win button. White Mage and Geomancer were the hardest. I don't think he ever finished a solo Berserker run. It's possible on paper, but the final boss RNG has to be perfect. Dancer was surpsingly easier than expected. Even with only one party member, swords dance can mow down bosses really quickly if the RNG is on your side.I'm currently playing a super hard FF5 romhack that tweaks the dancer so that the probability for swords dance stacks with each piece of equipment, so if you're wearing the tiara, rainbow dress, and red shoes, it's guaranteed every time. Would be broken as fuck for the original game, but I'd be lying if I said I wouldn't miss it.
>>4057953>so if you're wearing the tiara, rainbow dress, and red shoes, it's guaranteed every time.i could have sworn that's how it was in the original. guess I was just lucky.
>>4057980>guess I was just lucky.Must have been. In the original, it's definitely designed so that wearing any piece of the equipment simply replaces Tempting Tango's spot in the roulette with another Sword Dance, so wearing more than one is redundant. Which kinda sucks becaus Tempting Tango is like the most useful dance after Sword Dance.>>4057953>White Mage and Geomancer were the hardest. In different ways, though. White mage sucked because there was no reliable way to do damage until Holy, and a handful of bosses required tanking until they burn all their MP before you can start chipping away. Geomancer can at least use knives for the whole game, but once you get to the end that's pretty much all they have. Bard totally outclasses Geomancer because the songs are still useful even in a solo run, and the apollo's harp is fucking GOAT.
>>4058061Air Knife + Void's forced wind slash is actually fairly solid. The problem is all of those other fights where you can't crutch on it or your terrain options stink. As for WHM, you can actually start getting good items from the rare staff of light drop but that's the ass end of world 2.
>>4057953>I found this guy on youtube who did mono class,Not on youtube, but I know Sulla also documented mono class mono character playthroughs on his website.https://www.sullla.com/FF/finalfantasy.htmlhttps://sullla.com/FF/ff5tierlist.htmlhttps://www.sullla.com/FF/berserker3.htmlHe gave up on exdeath, but he did link someone who did do solo zerker exdeath.https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Gy4BHrohdJgHe had 2 computers running 6 instances each of the fight that automated and recorded it at max frameskip, or some shit like that, I don't know the details perfectly.Eventually he had a run with good enough rng that got him through the fight.I once saw someone do it on stream with 4 zerkers, all lvl 99 and even then it took him 14 attempts.
>>4057953>Dancer was surprisingly easier than expected. Even with only one party member, swords dance can mow down bosses really quickly if the RNG is on your side.I think I still pretty much stand by how I ranked them, because part of how I rate the mono team classes is how much you'd need to grind for each, and I've had quad dancer in the fiestas, I love them, sword dance is sick, but they need more levels than the other classes to survive almagest. Like I had never grinded to that high of a level before, except for a solo character playthrough, and it still wasn't enough to tank almagest, but it was enough levels to mow that part down with sword dances. >Would be broken as fuck for the original game, yeah I feel like that mod would be too much for me.I played around with one mod that changes the agility weapon damage formula a bit.You know how chicken knife uses (lvl*agi)/128+(lvl*str)/128, and that formula was meant for all knives, whips, etc, but the agi part was partly disabled because it was too strong, so bows, knives are basically strength weapons except chicken knife.weapon tweak romhack I used changed the damage formula for those weapons to (lvl*agi)/256+(lvl*str)/256, so they use strength+agility, but the effect was just less for each individual stat.I like the idea of it, and if there was a good ff5 randomizer that just randomized the equipment in shops and chests, I think I'd enjoy it more.In standard ff5 a berserker can use a mythril knife to great effect, but with the weapon tweak romhack, the berserker's strength is only half has useful and their agility is too low to help. I guess it feels better in a way since the berserker is supposed to use axes, not knives, but it's also kind of dumb to nerf the worst job in the game.Thief ended up being buffed since their agility allowed them to hit kinda hard.https://www.romhacking.net/hacks/6885/

>>4058318>Sulla also documented mono class mono character playthroughs on his website.Yeah, the guy I watched was basically using Sulla's documentation as a guide. He basically proved Sulla's strategies were solid, live on stream.>>4058330Generally I shy away from mods that change the mechanics too much. This one mod is so difficult, however, that 100% sword dance is effectively necessary for damage output, and also because a lot of the harder bosses have dummy targets to make rapid fire far less effective. Also, choosing to wear all three pieces of the dancer costume as opposed to using better defensive equipment is a definitely trade-off. It would be broken in the original game, but here it's just balanced.I've seen a lot of mods that tweak equipment pools for the job classes, and I think the only one I'd be in favor of is giving bows and/or shields to red mages, because they really need a boost. Having a "jack of all trades, master of none" class is really undercut in a game where you can just mix-and-match masters. I've played another romhack that gives bells to bards, which isn't necessarily super helpful outside of a fiesta, but still makes sense so it's kinda cool.
>>4059294>and I think the only one I'd be in favor of is giving bows and/or shields to red magesThat's kind of neat.I feel like it's a bit unfortunate that there isn't more cross class use of some of the weapons. Like you barely want a second tablet for legendary weapons at Kuzar during fiestas. Equip Weapon has it's place in the fiesta, but I'd like a romhack that would randomly let 7 jobs to equip Bows, Axes, Knight Swords, Whips, Bells, Ninja Swords, or Katanas and see how that feels.
