Marathoning this for the first time, decided to do bitterblack isle before doing everfall. Was that a good or bad decision?
You'll be fine. Wouldn't have advised doing it this way.Everfall isn't as fun of a dungeon as BBI, but it's a good preparation, doing a couple of rooms and collecting wakestones. Yes, you'll need them. Also, there is a chance to get some Everfall equipment out of it. And some of the encounters in the Everfall are an experience Two Gorechimeras plus Liches plus hellhounds holy shit please stopIf you do BBI first and then go back to finish the main game, you'll completely stomp any challenge here.THAT SAID, it's your game and BBI is indeed the better dungeon, the equipment and levels from the Everfall aren't necessary, so have fun.
>>4055126Everfall is boring as fuck and it's gear is worse than BBI stuff so it's whatever really.
>>4055126Terrible decision. You'll ruin the unique fights in Everfall by getting OP gear easily in BBI, leave immediately and go finish the entire main game before touching BBI.
>>4055126Kind of a poor decision I'd say.As others have said, the scaling of BBI spoils any discovery you'll have in the Everfall. Besides, the post-game of the main story is really only as long as you want it to be.My advice, you should wander through the EF until you feel you've seen enough, then finish the game and hit BBI on your second playthrough. Also, there are a handful of items in the Everfall that you can't find on Bitterblack, if you're the completionist type.
>>4055126The only interesting fight you can overlevel and ruin in Everfall is the evil eye.
All of my Dragon's Dogma threads on /v/ just die.
>>4055126You can get some good items if you past most enemies and loot treasure chests (if you and your pawn are playing the same class, you get a higher chance getting loot related to that class). I usually save BBI for NG+ during hard mode. you get so much money and exp doing so.
>>4055126On replays I skip both. The fun part of the game for me game play wise is everything up to the final boss. Bitterblack is a dungeon crawling grindfest which I don't necessarily dislike, but wasn't what I had fun with in dragons dogma. The game was at its peak on my first playthrough just exploring the world and doing quests. And the ever fall just straight up sucks they must have ran outta time and money when making that part of the game and it shows.
>>4055126BBI gear is better. I spent about a week grinding on Hard mode and turned the daimon and other threats into easy pickings. The only thing that’s still difficult are the crowd battles, especially against the busted pawns and fallen arisens. Everfall gear only makes sense in the base game. Actually, the base game in DD is a snoozefest. The level design is tedious, and most of the gear you get is trash and only makes sense on Hard Mode. Not to mention that the base game enemies are less interesting. Even on Hard Mode, I don’t like how boring the game is. Crippling yourself is interesting if you like a “challenge,” and you learn that the game’s leveling system is completely broken. They should overhaul the system. But even so, DD2 has much better progression in my opinion, even though I dislike the lack of a proper endgame. Everfall was what got me hooked on the base game (I only had the base game on the 360). Instead of the “blast arrow loop” from the first game, they buffed most of the items and skills, so leveling and vocation leveling feel more meaningful.
>>4058436>BBI gear is betterCounterpoint: a lot of it looks goofy and it’s harder to make aesthetic sets of gear than the base game
>>4058449I don't really care about fashion, even though I love the game's costume system and how they made the gear fit all body types. I played for the gameplay, and BBI is the pinnacle of DD. DD2 and DDO improve on everything, and upon further reflection, I’ve changed my opinion about DD2. The base game of DD2 is arguably better than DDA, even though BBI was superior to the base game in every way, thanks to its better level design, traps, and enemy design. It’s short, and the short playthrough condenses the experience into the best DD has to offer. But it’s still too short, and I can’t help but wonder if DD wouldn’t be better if it had been a roguelike from the start, since BBI is, for all intents and purposes, a roguelike. As an adventure game, DD is a great roguelike.
It's always fun to see this fanbase deteriorate over the years. Every DD thread I participate now is full of completely moronic opinions and ideas compared to around 5 years ago.
>>4055126Hated the game when it came out, didn't play for 20 years or whateverDisliked my first playthrough. Now I think of it almost as defining and iconic as dark souls.
I thought everfall was boring and shit just do the bitterblack the unlocks are more rewarding.
>>4058471>I played for the gameplay, and BBI is the pinnacle of DDPersonally, I much preferred the base game. My favorite part is the early midgame after you get to Gran Soren and the entire map opens up at your leisure. Can freely explore wherever you want, slaying monsters, finding new loot, slowly building out your port crystal network. I enjoyed the open world and exploring more than dungeon crawling. If one prefers dungeon crawling then obviously BBI is far superior in that regard.
It's pretty easy to trivialize the Everfall with Bitterblack Isle gear, but there's still a handful of neat fights to run into. Maybe a few pieces of unique equipment too (if only for fashion purposes at that point)>>4062136Pre-Dark Arisen, I mostly associate the everfall with killing myself in front of chests for rare equipment. Kind of sucks how the Ur Dragon stopped mattering much though
>>4055126The bad decision was playing this garbage in the first place.
>>4058471BBI is not a roguelike at all, it isn't even a roguelite. I can understand liking BBI more even though personally I think it's highly overrated and much worse than people recall, but what are you even talking about? Is this just rage bait?
>>4062168>My favorite part is the early midgame after you get to Gran Soren and the entire map opens up at your leisure.Yes. When I first played the game I dropped everything to just explore the whole map it was so fun just running around finding all these cyclops and dragons and ogres etc the fight. Only after did I start doing quests.
>>4062352The random item and rift crystal stuff in BBI is infuriating at times, but it does give you a reason to keep playing it I guess, and the gameplay is genuinely fun. For all its flaws, one thing I think DD2 did right is make the mid game wandering around the woods stuff fun with boss monster encounters that can easily spill into a giant clusterfuck instead of putting that effort into some dungeon you loop through countless times, but they really dropped the ball on incentivizing it properly.
>>4055126Everfall isn't that much of a "dungeon" more of a series of boss battles so yeah, but EF will feel cheap to you after BBI.>>4058374/v/ is full of anime troons with terminal AGPADHD and no taste for rpgs, what'd you expect?>>4062342Thou ought return to /v/, for thy presence here contributes naught.>>4058471You have no idea what a roguelike actually is. DD2 is too short, it doesn't improve on build, gear and companion build depth either but takes a few steps back in all three which for RPGs is a major crime. The base game of DD2 is more coherent storywise, but the afterworld is absolute garbage and the basic world I don't consider to be as deep as DD1 either. It feels like DD2 just got a few leftovers of the MonHun budget and was a rush job. They could save it with BBI2 but I don't have high hopes.

They could save it with BBI2 but I don't have high hopes.DD2 only existed so Capcom could show something to investors during the financial report. Game was unplayable at release because they forced Itsuno to use the RE engine that was not build for this game and removed much of DD identity. Its ironic Monster Hunter is suffering the same fate when it was suppose to be their flagship game. The DLC wont save the game. The game is broken at a fundamental level.
