I'm fairly enjoying it though I also have mixed feelings. The game has a good amount of bosses with unique gimmicks and strategies with only a few rehashes. Though I find the Overdrive System pretty frustrating and we have to rely on RNG to get the abilities we want yellow or white so we won't overheat. Normal battle also get extremely annoying but fortunately, most can be avoided and if you find a really cheap grinding spot, you won't be underleveled.
As for the story, it starts out pretty simple with a bunch of apparent strangers running into each other and decide to work together to stop a tyrant from using a magic nuke. But I think the story gets more interesting with Act 2 particularly with mysterious plot points about past lives. At least it's better than Sea of Stars anyways.

Westerners making jarpigs always ends in them sucking all kinds of ass, and Chained Cuckholds is no exception.

What's your problem with it?
>>
I liked it a lot. Still need to go back to the DLC. Not sure if I'd like it a second time through.
>>
>>4058771
Better than the critical darling Sea of Stars.
>>
>>4058771
I have read about the NTR shit and it made me not care about it. Some also mentioned a few scenes that were inspired from Attack on Titan like turning into a bird and I put it out of my mind until I saw this thread.

Snes era was better but it’s decent enough

Germs, swedes aso always write cuckold stories. They can't help themselves.
>>
>>4058771
Too bad the DLC is a separate disconnected thing. You should have been able to bring the DLC stuff back to the original game.
>>
>>4058778
He promised Xenogears, he gave us shitty Escaflowne.
>>
>>4059209
At least the DLC gives best girl Magnolia more spotlight since she only joins at literally the end of the main game.
>>
I liked the gameplay but the writing isn't very good. Spoilers below:

1. There are too many characters and many of them (especially the later characters like Egyl, Raphael and Magnolia) don't get much focus in the story and are introduced very late in the game.

2. The first half of the plot is about the politics of the world and the various nations, but in the second half it becomes about the gods and the political aspect of the plot is completely forgotten.

3. The ending makes very little sense and is abrupt and unsatisfying. Glenn decides to essentially kill himself with no foreshadowing, and he entrusts his godlike powers to Kylian, who literally murdered a man just a few minutes earlier. I understand that redemption is the story's theme but Kylian has done nothing to earn this level of trust. And why did Glenn kill himself before killing the Harbringer? Shouldn't he at least have waited a few years to kill the Harbinger and make sure the world was safe first?

Anyone want to start a Sea of Stars thread? I want complain about that game too.
>>
>>4060491
Yeah, I liked it until the ending, didn't even mind the cuck shit because it makes sense if you're not a /pol/tard looking to be offended, but the ending didn't land at all. So I completely skipped the DLC and probably won't bother with a potential sequel either.
>>
>>4060648
I might play a sequel just to see all the giant monsters they teased in the first game, but I definitely hope he gets a writer to help him work on the sequel's script.

>>4060639
Things come in threes. Is there a third game to add to this list? YIIK?
>>
>>4060700
Was that game ever popular? I've only just heard of it right now.
>>
>>4060728
Not popular, but it was a big meme. Running Shine did a funny video going over it.

Yeah, because Tony Faulkes smitted thee and the creator is branded as an exile despite both having 4chan junkie history

I agree with the first point wholeheartedly. They drop 3ish characters on you in literally the moments before the last dungeon and expect you to radically change your party after you've (hopefully) finalized your gem setup with THAT dogshit system on top of it. I don't know why it rubbed me the wrong way so much but it most certainly did.
The thing that got me about the plot is that they sat on the most interesting part of it. So Glenn is essentially a perma-reincarnator, that's the premise. You have the immortal essentially babysitting him through it and their relationship is so completely underutilized it's fucking abhorrent. How do you write a story with a pair who have spent multiple lifetimes together and have one half constantly looking for the other only to focus on the least interesting aspect of the reincarnator's past? It's not even the NTR shit that pisses me off, it's taking a great idea and FUCKING WASTING IT on NTR shit that pisses me off. The titular "Chained Echo" should've been far more important of plot element, is all I'm saying.
To give the game some credit, the Overdrive(?) meter or whatever it was called, it's been awhile since I've played it, was a fun little mechanic. Only ever got used in an interesting way once in the fight where it gets scrambled. That should've been way more of a common mechanic rather than one boss gimmick, but alas, it had good bones.
I also didn't care for the mech combat but that's neither here nor there.
>>
>>4061080
I'm surprised people like the Overdrive system. I thought it was frustrating how I could think of the right strategy for a fight but then the game punishes me for that strategy just from chance. I have to choose between using appropriate moves that gets me into overheat or shitty moves just to get the Overdrive meter down. Glenn's Restrain skill barely helps when everything else increases the Overdrive so fast and it still wastes turns and TP I could use for other things.
Even though I'm not a mecha fan, I actually prefer the Sky Armor fights since I feel I have more control over how I play. It's just so refreshing to not get fucked over by RNG during those fights.
Also, correct me if I'm wrong but was the fight you're referring to the Puppeteer boss? Still not sure what's the strategy there other than to rely on Glenn's Restrain, switch out party members and defend a lot.
>>
>>4061147
I don't remember having any particular problem with the gauge myself. Granted, it's been several years since I've played it so I don't remember the specifics all too much. What I do remember the system fondly for is building my party around an optimal combo that remained within the meter's range. Team building in general was one of the things I enjoyed the most from the game.
This is why I ended up disregarding the mech combat. I found it to be, ironically, so much less restricting that it stopped being interesting. Just a raw gear check and I don't believe the different mechs/pilots didn't brought enough to the table.

>Just a raw gear check and I don't believe the different mechs/pilots brought enough to the table.
Fixed. Need to double check my spelling before pressing Submit.
And yes, I think that was the boss. The game messing with the bar made the combo game far more interesting and forced you into new scenarios on the fly. That's why I wish the game did more like it.

>I thought it was frustrating how I could think of the right strategy for a fight but then the game punishes me for that strategy just from chance.
The right strategy in most fights is pretty obvious. Heal when your characters are injured, buff when buffs run out, deal damage at all other times. I liked overdrive because it added a bit of complexity to the usual JRPG strategy.
>>
>>4061196
I'm talking about situations like the Forgotten Boar fight where it counters all physical attacks then the only things that are in yellow are Glenn's physical attacks while Lenne's magic are the appropriate way to bypass its counter but send me into overheat.
Besides, I have to give credit to Chained Echoes for actually being creative with some of the fights. Had you made that criticism for most other modern RPGs like Sea of Stars I would have agreed but Chained Echoes is one of the few exceptions. It's not FF5 level but it's enough that I appreciate it for the gameplay, I'd say it's at least Chrono Trigger level.
For example, one of my favorite fights was against Giga Drill Breaker where we're on a cart. We can change the track by hitting switches then I directed the cart to a healing area at the top of the map that restores both HP and TP and I keep the cart in an infinite loop as I whittle down Giga Drill Breaker's health. That was fun.

>For example, one of my favorite fights was against Giga Drill Breaker where we're on a cart.
I agree, that fight was a highlight of the game.

>actually just makes it take longer to play the game the way you're supposed to be playing it for no real reason
I hate it on principle in the exact same way I think break/stagger mechanics are nothing but a waste of time. Artificial complexity sucks ass. Let me play the "real" game now, or fuck off.

I also like the Matthye fight where he starts charging an attack that would result in game over if he finishes but he doesn't attack at all while charging so you can just sacrifice all defense for offense with Berserk Mode to go all out with attacks. Also, the song is cool.

I thought Overdrive was stupid because it was completely nonsensical. It'd be like giving human characters a fuel stat.
>>
>>4061979
>actually just makes it take longer to play the game the way you're supposed to be playing it for no real reason
The reason is that it's adding a challenge. What's the point of a game where you know exactly what to do ahead of time?
>>
>>4062419
Aren't HP and MP essential just types of fuel for your characters?
>>
>>4062549
Yeah but they aren't called fuel.
>>
I think Robb is the most relatable character because he simps for Lenne.
>>
>>4063286
I liked Victor. He reminded me a bit of a character who might be in FF9.
>>
>>4058771
It's godawful, any of the "cool" moments and twists are taken straight from better games and the creator probably has a cuck fetish

that's just normal escaflowne
>>
>>4058771
Looks like more weeb doodles made my mental toddlers. Look at stardew valley and over 100 classics from the past to see how to avoid shit like this.

Imagine the hubris involved in making a character named Glenn in a JRPG.

Chrono Trigger?

Best classic JRPG out there.
