So, as a new player to the series, you just play Origins then skip to Inquisition and then forget about anything else with this (dead) franchise? Did I get this right?
>>
>>4059206
Yes but you skip Inquisition as well.
>>
>>4059206
2 is fine for the most part, not particularly good, not bad either. Still better than Inquisition.
>>
>>4059230
2 was the last BioWare game I ever bought. It, more than any other game caused gamergate. You are LGBT.

Origins > pretending they never made another game > acknowledging they did but refusing to play them > 2 > Veilguard > Inquisition
>>
>>4059218
>>4059230
DA2 had a forgettable boring MC, fetch quests and a railroaded ME-like combat. Not to say that Inquisition could compare with Origins, but it was certainly an improvement overall from 2 and it's certainly the most visually pleasing DA game
>inb4 graphicswhore
>>
>>4059258
Of DA2 I liked that it was very restrained, mostly a family saga instead of a "saving the world" epic.
Of Inquisition I disliked the MMO-like structure.

>>4059234
>gamergate was caused by a 2011 videogame, instead of by corrupt journos in 2014
riiiiiight...
>>
>>4059266
On release dragon age 2 had the largest gap between journalist ratings and user rating on metacritic. Because as a work of propaganda, the story of “faggot mage blows up a church for Equal Rights” resonated heavily with the anal marriage campaign. As a game, it was dogshit.
>>
>>4059206
No you just play the first game and its DLC and you are done
>>
2 is unironically the best game in this shit series. You should just skip all of them truth be told.
>>
>>4059206
DA2 is better than Inquisition by a mile. Do NOT waste your time on Inquisition. But really, DA2 is bad as well.
The unfortunate reality is you play this game and then forget about the franchise.
>>
>>4059206
Just play Origins and call it a day. Inquisition is not terrible but it hardly feels as part of the same world and you can probably find plenty of games that do whatever Inquisition could do better than inquisition itself by now. So many promises broken by that game.
>>
>>4059206
No? You just play Origins.
>>
Years ago I tried Origins but dropped it within an hour because of how mind numbingly boring the dialogue was. Is this because I picked the noble class or is the whole game like that?
>>
>>4060109
The whole game is pretty poorly written. It gets by on some really good voice acting, which was novel at the time.
>>
I played DAO for the first time this year and was massively disappointed. It was just Baldurs Gate again, but a lot worse. Same developers too. Supposedly game 1 is the best in the series so I just took all four off my backlog
>>
My main problem was that it had extra hard combat, and broken party ai. Those do not go well together
>>
>>4060109
>>4060122
>>4060147
Did we play the same game? It's been a while since I played it but DAO has better writing, dialogue, and characters than most modern RPGs. The main plot is unoriginal but it's well executed. If DAO is really bad than the 95% of RPGs are garbage.
>>
>>4060147
>that game which has literally nothing in common besides being CRPG is actually the same as BG

you fags are so retarded i dont even know why i bother reading posts on this trash site
>>
>>4060549
>DAO has better writing, dialogue, and characters than most modern RPGs.
Better than most RPGs ever
>>
>>4059206
DA2 still plays like the same game, tweaked but you can absolutely tell that it was a canceled expansion pack extended into a standalone game.

Whereas Inquisition is a completely different type of game on a new engine and I could never get into it.
>>
>>4060147
>It was just Baldurs Gate again, but a lot worse. Same developers too.
Yeah, the idea was BG but with AAA graphics and much simpler mechanics (only 3 classes, full heal after every battle) to try to appeal to a broader audience. No D&D dependance either, so BW didn't have to pay for a license.

What you have to understand is that some people (mostly the Xbox 360 kids) are immensely nostalgic for DAO, so you will never win in these kinds of discussions. It's like discussing Halo, there will be no nuance. I'm 40 myself, and while it was a decent game and I beat it 3 times, it was not my first CRPG, so I don't have such a strong attachment to it.

>>4060549
>DAO has better writing, dialogue, and characters than most modern RPGs
lmao, go to 4 places then fight the final boss, it was the typical BioWare formula but felt particularly tedious as each of these 4 places was a mega-dungeon, so you're always stuck somewhere for many hours, fighting the same 5 enemy types with the shitty RTwP combat over and over.
>>
>>4060645
That’s what i got from it. It’s one of those games where they move a series from 2d to 3d, but the actual game content becomes worse. Even basic stuff like controls that should have been copypaste, those were worse too.
>>
>>4060880
the controls of baldurs gate are terrrible
>>
>>4062045
They are perfect and we should spend another 20 years copying them
>>
>>4062068
party members get stuck constantly.
it is the single worst aspect of those games.
>>
>>4059230
DA2 was horrible, what are you smoking
>>
>>4062281
BioWare has *heavily* ghettoized itself in the last decade and a half. A bisexual zoomer who played it in 2021 loaded it up expecting a gay minotaur dating simulator, and that’s exactly what she/her got.
>>
>>4062281
Da2 story is good, unfinished aspects are not.
>>

I'd rather play SW:KotOR again even though it looks way older than DA2. DA:I is just better than DA2 since you get to travel around just like in DA:O and unlike in DA2, there are 0 reused maps in DA:I

>That was my experience in DAO. Baldurs gate was smooth sailing
Out of curiosity, what year did you play BG in? It felt differently in the 90s on default settings vs a modern computer with the pathing nodes set to six gorillion
>>
>>4059230
This. Look it's not a popular opinion but I thought DA2 was fun and I'm tired of pretending it's not. Does it reuse a lot of the same areas for quests and shit? Yeah. But it's still fun.

Inquisiton sounds bad ass on paper. In practice I quit midway through. I don't know it just didn't grab me like Origins did, which is of course the best in the series.

OP make sure to get every bit of DLC with origins or play the complete edition or whatever that has it all. Get all you can out of it. 2 is much more humble of a tale, it's not save the world shit it's a tale in one localized region. It's not that bad, it's fun. Never played or watched any content on Veilguard but I heard it's shit.
>>
>>4062346
LMAO
>>
>>4059206
You play Originns + Awakening + Witch Hunt and retire your MC with your witch wife

Other games in the series don't exist
>>
>>4059230
I could tolerate DA2 and all it's "creative" reuse of assets if it just loaded faster. The joke that you spend 75% of the game going to the same cave is funny, but in truth it feels like you spend 75% of your playtime staring at loading screens whose animations look like they're implying how far they've loaded but they actually don't.
>>
>>4059206
Just play Origins, Inquisition is also trash
>>
>>4059206
Origins and then Awakeningnand then do a different origin and class in Origins until you get bored.

Just skip everything else unless you REALLY like the story, then maybe DA2 is worth it.
>>
>>4059206
I tried all three games over the years and never got very far in any of them despite trying really hard (and being a big Bioware fan).
Origins: I loved the concept of origin stories and the dark tone of the writing, like getting raped as a female elf or being a lowlife dwarf. The combat didn't grab me much. But the worst part was the design of everything around you. The ridiculous armors, ugly character models and implausible architecture made me want to claw my eyes out. I'm a stuffy archaeologist so it really, painfully bothered me because the designs are in a kind of uncanny valley between "realistic" and fantasy. I never had problems with more outlandish stuff like Final Fantasy and such.
2: All-round improvement for me, but I played it even less because the environments were so boring and the characters so unlikable.
Inquisition: This one killed the series in my eyes. It epitomized all the distasteful design of the first two with the most cringeworthy cast of characters I've ever seen in any media franchise. Voice acting that sounds like nails on a chalkboard (Cassandra and Leliana with their stupid accents), writing that can only be described as Tumblr-esque, aimless quests, pointlessly huge open areas, etc. At one point, when you move to the big castle in the mountains, there's a cringeworthy singing cutscene that's like a Disney musical, it's all so tone-deaf. However I found the visual design a big improvement, armors and environments all look fine (but character faces are mostly ugly as sin).
>>
>>4060122
>Voice acting was novel in 2010

Voice acting wasn't novel, good voice acting was novel. Most games had dogshit voice acting, especially long dialogue heavy RPGs.
>>
>>4059258
You think the Inquisition MC was MORE memorable than DA2's?
>>
tourist here, why do you guys hate inquisition so much?
>>
>>4075857
It's not very good.
>>
>>4060645
How come you played it 3 times?
>>
>>4060645
>Yeah, the idea was BG but with AAA graphics and much simpler mechanics (only 3 classes, full heal after every battle)
Disingenuous or dumb?
>>
>>4059218
Inquisiton was Bioware's last hurrah even if it fell flat in a lot of sections.
>>
>>4059230
Two would of been better recieved if it was a spin off from the mainline. The fact it has to be in the same conversation as Orgins and Inquisition whose focus is exploration really doesn't allow it to stand on its own well.
>>
>>4075857
The story and writing is bad. I don't know what they were going for, but it's incredibly awkward and has no pacing because the level design is just empty sandboxes with collectibles that you NEED to find in order to earn enough good guy points to play the next main mission. The game basically has a Mario 64 structure, but instead of platforming you walk around slowly and fight enemies in long drawn out fights just to earn the ability to play the next structured mission. Speaking of structured, main missions--I think there's only like 5 or 6 in the entire game. Because there's so little actual content, they needed to force the player to waste time in the sandboxes.
Gameplay wise it has the same problem that DA2 had where when you level up you have to waste points picking things you don't want/need just to unlock the better abilities. Meaning you can never have fun optimized builds.

I don't want to keep rambling, but I'd argue the game does NOTHING right. It has no redeemable qualities. Even DA2 is better than it.
>>
>>4060640
Funny because you can REALLY tell that Inquistion was a cancelled MMO they repacked into a single player game.
>>
>>4062758
I also quit inquisition halfway through because I just didn't get the overly round about plot. I really fucking struggled to understand why random jobbers with a lot to live for are siding with corpheyus to destroy the world essentially. DA2 story is easier to follow for all its faults.
>>
>>4059206
More or less it is the best the franchise ever gets lord knows were never getting anymore of the franchise.
>>
>>4080203
I'd argue the gameplay for inq is better then DA2 but you know that isn't a hard bar to pass. Other wise you right on every point the story is to all over the place pacing wise. But the dragon battles are the best the series ever got out right gameplay wise. I'd note I also hate the sandbox maps there all to big making playing feel like marching through mud.
>>
>>4059206
Skip all the games and just read the David Gaider novels and the big coffee table book. Spend your time working up a homebrew tabletop RPG system using the world of Dragon Age. None of the games are that great.

Yeah man, it's so fun how they instakill your worthless companions and you have to spend 10 minutes chipping away at their massive health.
>>
Origins -> 2 -> Inquisition -> you headcanon your inquisitor dealt with solas and the blights and the world looks however you want it to be because it will be better than the clusterfuck that is veilguard (but they inevitably would've dealt with key stuff in any sequel so look up a rough plot summary)
2 isn't a great game but it's fun enough for one playthrough and it sets up the story for inquisition. just ignore the qunari assassin dlc genuinely one of the worst dlc I've played
>>
>>4059258
Inquisition was terrible, they even reused a DA2 DLC boss as the big baddie, how embarrassing.

It doesn't, Jon?
B-but it was made for consoles (hence the 4 choices limitation)
Now I'm confused.

I really struggled to give the faintest fuck about Corephyus. More than half the time you can't even feel his presence in the story.
