The best ARPG on the market, Grim Dawn. No more /v/ threads are allowed.
It's definitely in the top three, with Diablo and Diablo II. Certainly the best one in the last couple of decades.

Anyone else just steering clear of Loxmere when doing Valbury? This bastard constantly one- or twoshots my grenade chucker.Whenever I encounter him escape is top priority.I'll dash through a horde of enemies, elites and other bosses just to get away from him.

>>4061473thats so depressing considering how boring this grindslop getsyou need to be clinically retarded to not be sick of it within 30 minutes.
I want to like grim dawn but the active skills are just so boring compared to Path of Exile 1. Monster infrequents are such an excellent concept, I love items in the game, but there aren't any characters I want to play.
>>4062412The problem with Grimdank is the same problem all isometric arpgs face: they need to fucking slow the combat down and make different skills have different tactical uses so that there's a reason to give a fuck about positioning, resource management and decisions. Encounters need to be meaningful, not numerous. They need to be tactical, not spammy. They need to be positional, not mindless. They need to be distinct, not just identical mooks zombie-walking toward you constantly. Skills / abilities need to work differently and have different use cases, there should not just be one best spell that you bind to your right mouse button and you only spam that one button.Arpgfags just don't want to hear this.
>>4062501We need a Dark Souls of ARPGs.No Rest For The Wicked goes into that direction, but from what I've seen, it goes too much into that direction.I guess the best way would be twin stick controls. Then directional combat (as in attacks from different direction behave differently) with bigger enemies having actual weakspots you need to exploit.Maybe the body part armor and damage system of Phoenix Point, where instead of trying to just beat your way through the enemies health pool you instead can damage and disable individual body parts for a permanent debuff on the boss.Something simple would be disabling the legs, where the enemy now moves slower, maybe can't use leap and dash attacks any more, and receives bigger damage from ground effects like fire or poison pools.Slow the action way down. Movement can stay fast and snappy but make the game more about using different skills for different situations.Like, enemy has a weak spot behind him?As a fighter you just get in there, circle the enemy and attack him from behind.A caster on the other hand would need to use delayed spells or spells that are triggered by other mechanism, to hit the enemy in the back.I like Grim Dawn and the gameplay, but I still dislike that kind of gameplay where you choose 2 or 3 skills, buff them as much as possible and then spam them in every situation.
>>4062527Dark Souls is the ultimate example of hyper-focusing on the single most powerful attack available to you. Defense consists of just spamming the same retarded-looking dodge roll and there's absolutely no other interaction the game even allows. The Souls / Bloodborne / Elden Ring games are very seriously among the absolute worst video games ever made of any genre. Ever.I'm stone cold serious. Those games fucking suck. Fucking Pong literally has more nuanced gameplay.
>>4062633When someone talks about "The Dark Souls of X" they don't usually mean the gameplay, but the pacing and scale.Far fewer but harder enemies, slower fights, more about positioning and resource/stamina management.Move away from Dynasty Warriors towards Dark Souls to arrive at Nioh. But no one says "The Nioh of X".
>>4062501It's the opposite, whenever I play Grim Dawn I'm reminded that PoE is faster, has higher enemy counts, has many one button builds that are viable etc. Grim Dawn has a lot of good points like gear and not having purposeful annoyances to sell microtransactions but PoE's gameplay is just better
>>4062501Shadows: Awakening is what you want.
>>4062688Dynasty Warriors was best when you had to pay attention to the tactical map a bit and not just spam one button till musou.I'd like an arpg with more going on than spam, like exploration and conversations too. Honestly D4 isn't that bad in this regard but it still becomes repetitive too. Group co-op and classes, something not completely casual to have fun in but not as sweaty as an mmo or korean grinder arpg.
>>4062633>Defense consists of just spamming the same retarded-looking dodge roll and there's absolutely no other interaction the game even allowsUsually you're better off just running out of the way. People just spam the dodge roll because they're retards.
>>4062688>When someone talks about "The Dark Souls of X" they don't usually mean the gameplay, but the pacing and scale.So.... they actually don't like the gameplay, then. They want a novel.Novels are not games. They are not games, I don't know how to say it any more simply than that, I'm sort of actually flabbergasted here. Like. If you don't like video games, that's ok, dude. Just don't play video games. Read a book. Oh my fucking god. There are so many books. Go read them. But for people to gush over FecesSoft like that is, on the one hand, great for me because at least they announce themselves so I can just instantly avoid them. They don't even wait. Those games are just the first and only things they ever talk about. But on the other hand, since they're such rabid morons and easily manipulated by marketing, they have become a strong influence on video game design due to sheer market share.Just like how free-to-play-with-mtx mobile games have a huge influence. Is fucking CANDY CRUSH a great example of video game design? What's the difference between a Skinner Box... and literally anything you might do for joy? I'm sure people here have seen that meme of the crowd of geriatrics just mindlessly tapping the button on the gambling machines in the casino... We have to ask ourselves if THAT is the pinnacle of game design. What's the point of games? What's the point of art? Because if it's just to lure as many rubes as possible to pay as much money as possible... why even bother with the pretense of any of the rest? Why are we here pretending there is such a thing as quality or beauty or meaning at fucking all??

If there are any lore anons here, can I get a QRD on why exactly Korvaak was so bad? t. finished Forgotten Gods>knew Empyrion well enough to call him brother>was apparently holding the line before against a shitton of void stuff>hates the chtonians more than anythingIf anything it makes me want to side with Kymon’s chosen in base game just to see how they take it after but I’m not seeing how Cairn under Korvaak would be worse than in its current state, he’s maybe capable of Old Testament tier wrath and punishment but seems the witch gods would have it coming. Plus he might get the aetherials sorted out too if reading some things right.
>>4065360He wasn't the nicest god, perhaps not "expansion dedicated to killing him"-worthy however that was a massive ruse on the Witch Gods' part.
>>4065360From what I understood, Korvaak was a pretty cool guy. Eh killed Ch'Thonians and doesnt afraid of anything. It's just the Witch Gods, when they were still mortal, thought that they should have his power instead, so they stabbed him, bound him, stuck him in a stew, and used him as an eldritch battery to fuel their own powers. The power struggle at the beginning was what led to the korvan civilization being burned. You have a literal god called "The Eldritch Sun" doing his best to resist the usurpation, which of course boiled the entire landscape. So, being spiritually devoured for centuries or millennia made him kinda miffed at the rest of creation, so he kinda sorta wants to burn down everything that doesn't bow to him.You know, typical god stuff. While the Witch Gods sapped him of his power, he also lost all of his believers.Like in many mythologies, gods gain their powers from their believers. The Witch Gods now have their cults supplying them with power, while Korvaak has no one. That is until Kymon showed up, got duped into thinking he is Empyrion and built an entirely new cult to supply him.Now Korvaaks new cult is on their way to free him.Not only would he then have a cult, but also the Witch God parasites would lose a substantial amount of their power and couldn't really oppose him if he's actually freed.tl;dr: Korvaak was pretty cool for a Sun God, but now he is too angry at everything to let him be freed.Btw, the Witch Gods themselves are pretty cool too. They may be dirtbags, but they are not malicious to humanity unlike every other power out there.Bysmiel just wants to have her zoo with all the animals while doing 5th dimensional keikakus.Dreeg is all about knowledge and visions. His followers may lose their mind, but that's really their own fault.Solael just wants his followerd to be as strong as possible and enjoys the occasional human sacrifice on the side.
>>4065390Didn’t get him trying to burn down everything but I suppose I should have picked up on that from the state of the region and his ascended, so fair enough - I thought for a moment before that Korvaak was Empyrion’s true self/name or something since the devotion focuses a lot on fire damage but that’s obviously wrong now. >5dimensional keikakusDoes that include messing about in Cairn right now? Because a note describes the priestess that Ulzuin got infatuated with as green-eyed and raven-haired which is exactly the one leading the Bysmiel cult and not appearing in Malmouth so far. So yes I’m expecting her to be Bysmiel really and for the leader of the Solael cult that disappeared after Korvaak’s defeat to be Solael himself in turn genuinely what with the two being a couple apparently.
>>4065390>Btw, the Witch Gods themselves are pretty cool too. They may be dirtbags, but one of them has huge tits, so there’s that.
>>4065514Yes, she is all about the plot.
>>4065390I don't really like how Korvaak's and Ch'thon's stories are so similar.
>>4065808How are they similar? The only reason humans exist is because of Ch'thon, an unkillable entity that took the combined effort of other gods to imprison.
>>4065950>imprisonWhat a cute way to say "ripped apart to use as material and thrown into the madness dimension".Ch'thon did nothing wrong. He just wants the pain to stop and reclaim what has been taken from him.
>>4066018Basically, yeah. Empyrion thrust the final spear into him.
>>4066024So Empyrion thrust into Ch'thon and forced him to create life?Damn, is Grim Dawn an mpreg rape drama?
>>4066115>forced him to create lifeno
>>4066422They tore him apart and used him as material to create life.If that ain't being forced to do it, then my whole rape analogy falls apart.
>>4066443They didn't force him to create life and I have no idea where you got this from.
>>4066446Ch'thon got stabbed, torn apart and his blood was used to create all living things, then he was chucked into the void. He's called "The Dying God" because he constantly feels the pain of all beings made of his blood. But since he's a primordial god he can't really die, so now he is trapped since the dawn of creation and in constant agony that drives him insane. The whole reason the cult of Ch'thon exists is to gather his blood (as in: the blood of every human and animal) and return it to him so he can finally be at peace.
>>4066453Ah right, I mistook the intentionality of using his blood versus it being a natural thing.

Just did a makeover of my very first character, a pyromancer before AoM even came out. It was pretty dire. >start farming for sets>first one I complete is avengerShould I just bite the bullet and level an archon or continue farming shattered realm? I'm farming normal SR 30 cause my character is weak.
>>4067585I mean, why not just totem farm in ultimate? You'll get more purples that way, won't you? If you're not strong enough to farm there, you should probably reevaluate your build.
>>4067605I've been doing that for the past few days and gotten bored. There's only so many totem runs my brain can handle.
I know Olexa's resist debuff is tied to the freeze, which makes it mostly useless against bosses that have +500% freeze resist/reduction anyway. But what happens if freeze with Olexa, then apply a new freeze from another source (like Trozan's). Does it overwrite the existing freeze and remove the debuff prematurely, or does it extend the duration of the existing debuff?
>>4067607Completely fair. You could also consider farming key dungeons if you want. Vanquisher set is target farmable from them and Vire's Might/Volcanic Stride is a fun skill to build around.
>>4067619>farming key dungeonsI tried a couple on ultimate and ascendent but they're a lot of effort and require quite a bit of kiting. >vanquisher setI think you misunderstood. >>4068733The speed level guide could use some updates for FoA:There are a bunch of easy to get lore notes in Kurnhold, although I don't think they're worth much XP.Looking at the world map, there are three new devotion Shrines that are near rift gates. And for non-mandatory items, the movement speed potion modifier comes to mind. Just add a note to take a quick trip to Kurnhold to unlock them after Ultimate Quest 1.
>>4068733>>4068951What's the significance of "Don't kill while traveling?"Is it just that time to kill is so long that killing is basically a waste of time at the beginning?
>>4068966Seemed that way to me. Also be sure to read your lore notes INSIDE of Kyzogg's cave. Don't be a dumbass like me and level yourself to double digits before entering his cave so he scales to your player level instead of staying at a low level. I'm pretty sure that fight added something like a half hour to my "speed" leveling process.
>>4068966Lore notes lose their effectiveness the higher level you get and yeah you want to fight a level 1 boss.
>>4068972>>4068974Btw, I thought that lore notes would be global. As in, you can still pick them up with a new character and read them, but the entries read by other characters are also available in the codex.I wanted to stay consistent with my character between difficulties, making the same choices. But if it doesn't work that way I can forget about having a full codex with my main char.Or is it that it's global per difficulty?Char 1 picks up lore note on veteran, other veterans can read it. but if new char starts at normal, his codex is empty.
>>4068979Lore notes are per character
>>4068983Fuck. Then I'll need to go elite and tank my rep with kymon. What happens if I choose kymon in ultimate but then choose vigil in elite?Do I go hostile with kymon in ultimate while still working with them?
>>4068988Rep sticks with whatever you chose last. So if you went DV on ultimate but then went back to elite and chose KC, you will still be KC on ultimate.Trouble is that your quest selections are per-difficulty.So your available quests (and importantly, vendor) will be DV on ultimate. But because you're hostile with them, you can't enter their stronghold or buy from their vendor in Homestead. If you want anything from KC you'd have to load Elite or walk to their stronghold in Sorrow's Bastion on Ultimate. You'll be able to do their quests on Elite but only grind their rep from kills on Ultimate.

>>4069315Shadows awakening does. A couple of the souls you can enslave are hero versions of common enemies. You get the base enemy with a hefty stat boost and can unlock the additonal skills the hero had in life.
>>4069359I wanted to try druid skyshard but it really does suck.I pivoted to cold OFF/callidor's because it had easy MIs with the ghost shield and medal from nakrathan. Damage and survivability suck. I get chunked a lot despite having 20% DA from Maiven's and maxed resist. (Still leveling so we're not talking level 100 ascended here.)Might try skyshard again as lightning but it's annoying replacing all your gear.Haven't killed Logh and now thinking about trickster bleed.
>>4069391I have heard Trozan's druid is a bit of a meme. I was thinking about trying out skyshard, but maybe I'll do it as an evoker for onslaught stacks.>survivabilityDo you have any points in pact of Mog and the add-ons?
>>4069406Just a couple because I didn't feel like I needed more health (14k at 85). It could be I'm getting crit and the DA on Oak Skin might help, don't have many points there because I didn't need the resist. It's hard to gauge how much DA you need while leveling, I'm not going to open my char sheet and check my DA stat while I'm fighting a boss.I recently swapped some augments to get 99% armor absorb, haven't played enough to see how big of a difference that'll make.

>>4069883I do kind of want an ARPG with a clear end target goal but the ability to infinitely scale beyond that if you wanted to. But I guess it would be hard to balance or else it would get out of hand quickly, either the scaling is such that going above the "max level" takes so much experience that a reasonable shitter player (i.e. me) would only get maybe 2 or 3 levels, or it is too easy and every build guide is like "1 BILLION DPS ENDGAME FARMING BREAK THE GAME <<<10,000 skill points>>> "

>>4070588It looks like you're splitting your damage types between physical and bleed. I would focus entirely on bleed instead and get devouring swarm for more RR.Your WPS total percentage is over 100%, which is a waste of skill points. I assume you're an onslaught + leap build so focus on Upheaval for the cooldown reduction.Speaking of leap, why is it not maxed out and why aren't you taking fault line?Someone else already mentioned your weapon, I suggest Rancor since it's a two handed bleed weapon that boosts Onslaught too. Plus you can buy the blueprint so there's no need to farm it.

It's a purely aesthetic choice. >Your WPS total percentage is over 100%I have no idea how this really works or how to min/max this, to be honest. So you're suggesting that I should take some points out of, say Bloodfangs, so that my total chance to proc something doesn't exceed 100%? Is that how it works? >weaponRancor might be cool actually. Somehow I never bought any bps from that vendor. I'll need to farm some halberds though.>Devouring SwarmI'm gonna put a value point in it and see how it goes before I commit to it. A single point gets it up to +6, so it's 15+43+32, which is a 90% reduction from all the sources when combined. Should be good enough right?
ooh baby a triple
>>4070835>armorI might just be biased cause I play a lot of retal builds and run around with 3.5k armour. >fault linesFair enough but the extra damage could be helpful for tougher fights.>WPSEvery single weapon skill has a chance to proc, these are all additive. Let's say I have 4 weapon skills at 25%, that equals 100% so every attack will proc one of those 4 skills. Adding another skill to hit 125% is a net negative because you cannot proc multiple WPS on the same attack. So if you exceed 100% you aren't getting any bonus from it. >devouring swarmRR is king especially on higher difficulties. It is a bigger damage multiplier than nearly everything else. You should probably look up how RR stacking works. The tldr is flat resistance like warcry can't stack, % reduction can stack and % reduced target resistance is multiplicative. So you want the highest flat RR, as much % RR and the biggest % reduced target RR you can find. The other thing with %RR is that it can go negative, for your purposes shaman's devouring swarm can drop enemy resistances into the negative levels which buffs your damage even harder.>>4070882I hate these bastards on melee builds.

Not sure, that the developers wanted to play a video game exactly how it turned out it to be.Offline, moddable, are all a big plus. Original story, that is sadly not interesting, nor captivating. The atmoshpere lacks the feeling of presence, the game does not immerse the player (at least me). Leaves the overall impression of being a subpar clone of some product, what the youngsters call a temu version.Grim Dawn has tried, but failed. A sad story.

>>4072631>blasts dps but it’s not near as tanky as warderPost you grimtools. >>4061473If Im playing a berserk/arcanist cold wereraven spamming wereraven skills, do I want Star Pact or Heart of Asterkarn? Im struggling to understand how heart actually interacts with what im doing.
>>4072769From a glance, Heart is better. Compared to Star Pact, it not only buffs frostburn (cold DoT) damage but also the duration. Whenever DoT is extended, it keeps the same DPS as before, but lengthens how long it goes on. So if you had 20 frostburn over 2 seconds, and got +50% frostburn damage with +50% duration, you're doing 30 frostburn over 2 seconds, or 15/second, extended to 3 seconds, so 45 overall. Beyond that, more offensive ability means you're hitting and critting more often, and slow res is underrated.

How do I search "-X% Aether Resistance" on items in grimtools? I'm only seeing the +X% damage stuff.
>>4073241I think a value like that doesn't exist as an independent stat, only attached to a skill (either a modifier found on MI/sets or an item-only skill). You could do a word search for aether resistance and then manually look for -##% but it would be very labor intensive.IMO there are a couple edge cases like this that I wish grimtools would be better to search for.

>>4073977https://forums.crateentertainment.com/t/bone-harvest-spam-ritualist-leveling-and-endgame-guide-1-2-1-6/152051
https://www.grimtools.com/calc/ZrGro45NWell this seems to be a wash. Here's the start at an attempt at making an aether birb build centered around Decree of Aldritch. I didn't realize that only one Devastation could be cast at any one time. I was initially hoping that I could just focus on cooldown costs and stack them for big damage but that seems to be not the case. I have no idea what I'm doing. I'd like to offer the excuse that this is cobbled together with what I have available but it's still shit.
I've been getting back into the game again after forgetting about, and I've decided to go for a druid build. It's fun electrocuting things to death. Also, there are so many build options. I really hope that Crate or a modder adds an option to play with an alt as a companion, and basically let you customize two characters at once. That would really help with trying out the different classes.
>>4074033Yeah, Devastation is shit. I would just focus on another skill.Does Bonechilling Cry's RR get converted to Aether? I know Servant of Empyrion gets converted if you get the node, but that's a specific skill modifier while here only Wereraven gets converted.I'm pretty sure OFF's RR only affects frozen enemies so it's useless against most bosses.
>>4073551>full altarwhy would I do that
Is the markovian set any good? I never see anyone mention it.
>>4074041>That would really help with trying out the different classes. It is really cheap to reset skill points and devotion points. Sure, you're still stuck with the two masteries you picked and have to deal with getting equipment for a new build, but respeccing is easy and cheap.
>>4074288It's an old set it is good if you want to make a Warlord tank
>>4071329My archon ripped on HC.
>>4074296That's a fair point. Dungeon Siege 1 and 2 really spoiled me with team building.
>>4074052Bonechilling I was using for DA reduction but now that I'm going to switch out of Devastation I can dual wield and use a 1-hander that actually gives the skill aether resist reduction. OFF's RR only working on enemies it can actually freeze is not something I've heard about, concerning if so. But it's been working well enough otherwise whole I was leveling with a typical sky shard build, so hopefully it won't matter too much.

Ironlord Commando, Leviathan Death Knight or Blazerush Elementalist?
>>4074376Does Ironlord need Blast Shield to proc naturally before it's able to extend it, or can it proc Blast Shield itself?

>>4074420Ah fuck, nvm.Couldn't pick it up from all directions. Only when I approached it directly from south could my character get close enough to grab it.
Can you get the Death's Whisper Hood from anything but Master Ravok? It feels weird to play Necro but then jump through hoops to not join the official Necromancer club.
Do the crates in the crate fight respawn?I don't have enough room to keep my distance from them so i hope i could just kill them all.
Am I the only one kiting around spamming Rune of Hagrid w. Blizzard devotion in this day and age?Baiting bosses into stacked runes with minions feels far too easy.
>>4074490Ignore the crates and focus on the boss only if the crates are close pull the boss away from them
>>4074493I've been considering an Onslaught + Rune of Hag build with the Nightforged set. With the right weapon + gloves you can get a 70% chance to activate Avalance off Onslaught which in turn lowers the CD of the Rune. With Ascended affixes you can get that % up to 100.
>>4074420That place is related to the Forgotten Gods secret quest, btw.
>>4074393running that ascended affix on your weapon prevents you from slapping the 4% hp per second soldier affix on it though
>>4074383It needs to proc naturally, so be prepared to clench your butt as you'll have to eat sunders even to get a chance to do it.It's not really a big deal however, even without it both zolhan's and the weapon own WPS do decent damage. Personally I have thrown Markovian's in the mix as well to get more crits.I do wonder about going for a Defiler instead, though. I feel like you would get better sustain and single target, you don't really need the extra soldier tankiness since you're extending the best survival skill in the game.

>>4075044For Onslaught builds, I use the teleportation skill with no damage so my stacks don't get used up.For other builds, any other movement skill is fine as long as the damage type matches. I personally don't like the disengage ones.I never use the Evade runes. They're not worth giving up a movement skill.
I just made it to Duskvale Gate for the first time. Is that about halfway through the base game? The size of the map is impressive when you realize it.Also, I think I got really lucky with this weapon drop. It hasn't been replaced since I got it.
>>4075312About halfway, maybe 66%.The affixes are random but the majority of the stats are not so it is very strong weapon when your build can use it. A lot of Monster Infrequents are like that.MIs are somewhere between a unique and a rare, there are stats they will always have (usually skill modifiers but also sometimes base stats) but also get to roll affixes like a rare item (superior/of ruin) which I think is even weighted to the item's purpose. They were added long after release so they often outclass the uniques (blues/empowered) in the same level range and can be strong enough to make builds around.
>>4062633You aren't even remotely serious. You would abandon this opinion the moment it became popular. Total contrarian psychosis.

>>4077996It was oversight on Crate's part to put a necro-centered MI on a path that necros are locked out from. If I were them, I'd patch it so the helmet also appears in the Blood Grove vendor shop.
>>4078013Yeah, since that vendor also sells the necromancer amulet that can drop from basically every enemy necro, I had also hoped that he'd sell the helmet too, but no such luck. And I'm not making my character dependent on Shattered Realm random MI drops. Is there a way to disable normal attack when a skill assigned to a mouse button is on cooldown?I want to use the spell whenever off cooldown and run the rest of the time, but holding down the button keeps swinging my weapon.
I THINK THE ASCENSION ALTAR SUCKS

>>4079500Every 3 hits, on the Cadence proc, it gives you an Onslaught stack as well which can be consumed by the 9th attack (3rd Cadence proc in a row) to boost the Cadence damage itself.A Cadence to the Cadence, if you will.Aside from that, nothing comes to mind. I would like it to be a proper attack replacer but it would lose its unique(ly shitty) spot by doing that. Also, is this a Cadence problem or is this actually a weapon skill problem?
>>4079685well… both? a DAR that can’t take full advantage of WPS now that they added a bunch of mods to increase proc chance to both old and new items, as well as ascended affixes, is a pretty crappy DARalso the shitty base damage on the non-cadence-boosted hits hurts
>>4079694The real problem is that Cadence isn't actually that bad if you don't mind going for tri-elemental damage. There's a lot of good item support for that and it performs just fine.Wouldn't it be better to fix physical damage in general before looking at Cadence?
>>4079705lolwut? avenger warder and archon (and also ironlord commando now) can left-click the entire game to death except crate and uber bobr, physical damage ain’t the problem
>>4079709>3 builds (two of which are the same set) doing fine means that physical in general has no issuesAnon...
>>4079685IMO it's a WPS problem since I don't feel WPS were originally balanced to scale on top of DAR. The WPS+DAR events should occur separately or even act as a WPS in a sense (i.e. DAR is like a baseline WPS) but rebalancing that at this juncture would require adding like +300% to every WPS.

>>4081017It's not even about the money itself, I just feel like it's too much to pay as much as a full price indie game for 1 class and a handful of areas that I'm probably going to skip on every character going forward.
so what happens when you have multiple items with modifiers of the "total damage modified by X%"? do they add up or increase the skill's power multiplicatively?
>>4081002It's an expansion that's only a month (two?) old, I think the -15% is still the "release window" discount and not anything higher due to the current sale for the rest of the game. It's not a surprise to me that the expansion has not been discounted further yet. Even then the bundle is not as cheap as it was during the steam sale, which will probably not repeat until winter at the earliest if not next summer. But I suppose you're complaining about the total price in general. I can agree that the expansion looks a little thin for the price, but I look at it less as paying $25 for this one product and more as supporting grim dawn (and more development of similar games) as a whole. I guess this position is paradoxical given that I'm a cheapshitskate waiting for the deepest sale ever, but what can I say, I am a poorfag hypocrite.>>4081151I was told that that total speed is multiplicative between sources (I had two weapons with +total speed and had a higher value than additive) but I don't know if that's true with total damage too.

I made >>>/v/746928436 just to let other anons know about the discount but I don't have much to bump with. I'm currently writing an update to the resist reduction sheet.
Updated the old resist sheet, largely did it because some skills changed (old sheet said wind devil > raging tesmpest was flat reduction) but updated the formula/order of application too., I probably made a mistake somewhere (likely in the 1-B / 1+B) since I'm a logiclet. This ended up being the fire commando I beat the Loghorrean with on ultimate. Died once after being a dumbass and not capping my resistances but other than that was pretty easy. Damage did start to feel kind of poor towards the end. Not sure where I'm gonna take it from here set wise. The skill point allocation is unoptimised. Kind of feeling burnt out desu and might end up playing MH instead of refining it. Gonna do one dungeon to see how it performs and take it from there.https://www.grimtools.com/calc/2jBOWlq2

>>4084175What would be the fastest route to gain XP between reloads? My guess would be Old Arkovia > Gladiators > clear camp towards mine entrance > pop in, kill Rat, go out > continue camp > hideout.4-5 bosses, depending on if Rat is near the far entrance, 8 or more heroes and lots of chaff should net you 800-1000 negative rep per run. Each run 5 minutes (optimistic) and you should be done in an hour or so.

>>4084790Both mindsets are completely wrong.Gear is a means to an end. If you're strong enough to kill mobs and not die, your build and equipment are fine. You don't need perfect gear to "finally play the game".
>>4084790I understand that mindset, but not for games like these.I could understand it in games like Elden Ring of Nioh, where a fight is determined by your skill and not mainly by your build or equipment. Even if you cheat every stat to max and upgrade all your equipment to its utmost, if you suck at the game you will still lose. But here it's 'Press 1-5 and hold down M2'.In ARPGs getting stronger IS the game and once you're strong there's no game left.Even if you have to chase the last percentages of improvement, it is that chase that makes up everything. What do you do once you've achieved maximum strength? You can the character or use it to farm gear for another char, but why would you do it if you could just use GDStash? It's like gambling but you're guaranteed to win, which defeat the whole purpose.
>>4084790I could understand it if it was about trying out how the "complete" build feels.Far too often I chased an idea for a character build that ended up being just not fun to play, so figuring out early if what you're trying to do would even be fun or functional is reasonable in my opinion.

>>4088479Stormcaller's Pact isn't really doing much for you beyond crit damage and stun resist. That's not un-decent, but if you're looking for damage it'd be better to respec the 12 points in pact then the 10 points to get to 50 Shaman mastery and pump those 22 points into Demo to get more fire damage from Brimstone. You wouldn't get the fragments, but you're specced into fire damage, not lightning. Otherwise, I'd put those points into something like Flashbang for DA reduction, Wendigo Totem for heals, or Blackwater Cocktail with Agonizing Flames for enemy resist reduction. HP is very low, the new hotness is 20k for max difficulty, though I do have characters that are ok with less (because they're softcore). I was recommended to strive for 3000 OA if wanting reliable crit rates for crit builds, and you DA seems ok.
>>4088575>stormcaller's pactIts for the crit damage boost. I took on some of your feedback and refined it to look more like this instead: https://www.grimtools.com/calc/2ELAJ4jNI revamped the devotion tree to boost damage but the lack of turtle and chariot are kind of worrying me. Also without stormcaller I lose an additional 37% critical boost which may or may not be a big deal.
>>4088589>Also without stormcaller I lose an additional 37% critical boostI wouldn't even begin to know how to calculate the math but I still think getting resist reduction from Agonizing Flames would result in more damage, though if you already have a source of that kind of resist reduction I wouldn't bother (they don't stack well). That would be an overall boost to all of your fire damage, crit and non-crit. And that's just if you want damage. Your devotions seemed ok, Chariot especially is good, why'd you spec out of it? Turtle's absorption I hear is kinda bleh, though I can't say why. I'd assume it'd be great in combination with blast shield.
>>4088593>calculate the mathYeah its a massive pain trying to figure stuff out especially since respeccing and trying out different devotions is such a finicky process. >chariotI was just tried to experiment to see what I could switch around devotion wise to grab that additional +12% crit from blind sage along with the 100% fire damage.
>>4087569What are you comparing it against?
>>4088593>Turtle's absorption I hear is kinda bleh, though I can't say whyThe amount keeps getting nerfed indirectly because crate keeps cranking up monster damage, and there was a change a while back that made it activate at 50% instead of 40% of your HP so it triggers more often on irrelevant stuff and goes on cooldown for 8 seconds. Even as a hardcore player I don't bother with it unless I need Tortoise for the colours.
>>4088601Could try downloading DPYes to get some concrete numbers. Be sure to test against the solo dummy in homestead though.
>>4088649After doing some tests it turns out stormcaller is an insane buff for dps, you got from like 1.1 million to 1.8 million and if you're lucky on rng it can go up to 2.3 million. This was against a fully maxxed brimstone which made it even crazier.
>>4088666Well shit alright.
>>4088666But it would depend quite a bit on real crit rate. On a dummy and probably most trash it will be high but on bosses it will not benefit as much. Unfortunately you can't fight a dummy with superboss DA.

>>4088795I'm not sure, I think the ballpark is 3200? Unless that was the old number.Trouble is that no matter what number you hit, crit rate on a dummy will be much higher than on a boss, so testing effectiveness of crit damage will always need to be taken with a grain of salt.Although I guess with that DPYes mod you could fight a boss and see what your crit rate is against them. I'd guess it's 10 to 20% less than what you have on a dummy.
>>4088983>Although I guess with that DPYes mod you could fight a boss and see what your crit rate is against themYou can do this without any addon, if you hover your OA or DA it will show you the hit/crit chance you had against the last enemy you fought.

>>4089045More armor is always better.Armor absorption is capped at 100%.

>>4089105>+50% armor at all time, no downsides aside from pressing the potion every 30 secondsSeriously, what the fuck were they thinking? This is dumb as hell. I doubt an entire mastery worth of skills can give you a boost as big.
>>4089111dude wut? it's a %mod added to whatever others you already have, the gain isn't all that
>>4088983>see what your crit rate is against theAfter some testing at with 3335 OA my base crit against normal mobs is around 25-30%, bosses cause my chance to crit to drop to 20% which is quite gay. Savagery is seemingly superior single target wise but for some reason its worse at clearing mobs, will need to do some further testing to be sure. With 16.7K hp I still feel quite squishy and some monsters and packs can actually burst me down quite easily. This is on ascendant though so its to be expected. Another issue is that I can't farm iron maiden cause I went with Kymon.
>>4089124The gain is huge for something that has 0 opportunity cost.
>>4089130not the guy you were talking to, but savagery does just fine with the WPS shaman has access to, you already have an upheaval mod on your weapon, just put some levels on it and feral hunger, slap seal of the void on your weapon and you should be good to goalso isn't balthazar's crest a better medal for your build?
>>4089146>0 opportunity cost...the opportunity cost is not using literally any other potion modifier
>>4089150You have two potions, so that would leave you with two more modifiers. But okay, let's drop the boost and leave it at a mere +38% armor instead. It's free and there is no reason to not take it. You can't make a build that doesn't benefit from it, unlike for example the ADctH one (which is also absurdly strong imo).
Is the armor absorption potion better than the Menhirus damage absorption? Menhirus is what I've been using on max level characters that don't have energy problems anymore.

If you put giants blood on blast shield it should help you heal when you get chunked and prevent it from activating when you're at full health.I recommend getting more armor absorption by using scaled hide on your legs and shoulders. There are other lower armor absorption components with resists and you could put them on legs shoulders and chest, but then you couldn't put a chains of oleron on your chest. You also don't have a component on your boots, medal or weapon.Balthazar's Crest could be a better medal for you https://www.grimtools.com/db/items/13931
>>4089286seems i was 2 slow and didn't read your further posts rip. oh well some advice should still apply
I must confess, I have been using dpyes to teleport me to noktukari. I've already made that run from the way point so many times on softcore and now that I'm playing hardcore I can't be fucked doing it every time I want a new quest.
>>4089286this is an aside to the discussion, but pumped up blast shield is so strong you do not need a single other circuit breaker and stacking regen becomes pointless because no DoT in this game can overcome it
I can't play builds without Blitz anymore.
>>4089304Don't use hardcore as an excuse to cheat, you wuss
>>4089886My excuse is that I can't be fucked, not that I'm playing hardcore
At this rate I'll manage to make this relic by level 100, at least>>4089912You're not lazy, you're soft. Today it's teleporting to quests, tomorrow it's "yeah I resurrected myself, that death was bullshit", "why should I farm my gear? I already have it on softcore, I'll just cheat it in". If you don't care about the journey, what the fuck are you even doing?
>>4090037your aurora?
>>4089358truly a skill that makes you realize how wacky path finding in the game is
>>4090037i'll accept your judgement when you sort out that mess of an inventory

>>4090037Post in-game hours.
>>4090037
>>4090054i get stuck on shit every now and then playing wasd, things that wouldn't be an issue with mouse movement. there's a spot on this bridge that i always get caught on
>>4090376For me, it's the door to leave the Valbury boss room. I can't walk though, and it won't pathfind for me when I click on a chest. Only if I click on the cellar door.
>>4090376lol I only pass there every once in a blue moon and immediately remembered the spot you were talking abouthappens with mouse movement as well
>>4071329Please don't be shit.
>zone into bastion of chaos' pre-key area>6 modifiers>step into the key dungeon proper>4 modifiershuh?
>killed korvaak 30 times>still no helmet8% drop rate my ass.
>>4091220AFTER ALL THESE CENTURIES
found a spectral crossbow with +8 to phantasmal blades. i guess it locks me into a nightblade/occultist build for maximum vitality damage?or is there another class that can heavily improve it?
>>4091220KORVAAk FUCKS YOU
>>4090350lmaooooooooo absolutely discredited
>>4091302>>4091332Funnily enough it dropped on the run right after I bitched here. Now I just have to rely on cancerous shattered realm rng to get the shoulders from iron maiden.
>>4091315Necro also does Vit and have +casting speed on its exclusivePretty sure the ghost crossbow give extra points to its aura too
unironically disabled the dread because the cunt isn't worth the time wastedfired up an altar with 5 aspects of beronath for some dungeon running and the +18% DA made me unable to crit the cunt
>>4092815i find the dread real tedious. easy to evade, just takes a long time
>>4092927The first any only time I encountered it was on the way from Utak Kunar to the Dread Wastes.Ample room to kite it around.I have no idea how I could've done it if it visited me in a dungeon.
>>4092966My first time was in the middle of fighting Karroz. I think I had my ascension altar full except for the center. Cheeks were clenched until the gates opened up, but after that I lured it to a relatively open area to finish it.
Turn over a boulder and a cthonian diversity squad materialises next to me I really like this xpac
>>4093349just did ancient grove and all 4 rocks in the boss loot room were trapped
If I'm going chaos witchblade should I be hostile with Barrowholm? I heard that's the only way to get the new Scorv helmet.
