i played morrowind bc there was gay sex mod so i tried it out but the gay sex was just a fade to black and a little text box that said "you fucked nasty with (npc name)" so i got bored pretty fast. that's why we play skyrim on this board.

Before even playing morrowind I rolled my eyes at titles like this and now that I recently started morrowind I roll my eyes at them even more. They are acting like it’s some impossible to beat ancient game that resembles nothing we have today

>tried picking up morrowind on PC after putting a couple hundred hours into it on XBox like 20 years ago
>the PC interface is terrible
>My attacks are *missing* didn't remember that at all...

The game is pure ass

I remember the loading screens were atrocious, and just walking around the telvanni mushroom towers made me want to puke, and bugs prevented me from finishing the game, but the open ended freedom and endless content kept me coming back. Still the gameplay is extremely dated and shitty.

Oblivion is what made me upgrade to a 360 on release and it's 10x better in terms of playability. So there's that.

I'll just settle for YouTubers cheating their way through morrowind challenge videos.

I could never get into Morrowind when it came out. I finally forced myself to come back to it and beat it recently, and it didn't grow on me in the slightest.

The main issue is how dead and unreactive the world feels. For example, I was exploring and stumbled upon an orc fortress. I went inside and got attacked by some orcs. I killed them, and noticed that an orc was standing off to the side, watching the carnage. What's his deal, I thought. Is he from a different tribe, and this does not concern him? Is he a prisoner, waiting to be freed? Is he cowering in terror, begging me for mercy? Is he a boss monster, waiting to give a speech before he attacks me? So I go to talk to him to find out. I get the stock standard, what do you want, outlander, response.
>>

If letting your mind wander as to what some guy might be doing somewhere is not rewarding in itself to you, then yes, you'll be missing out on a significant portion of the appeal. A lot of the NPCs literally don't do anything and won't tell you anything special. But you can still take in the context, like, this woman dressed in rags is standing in front of these canalwork pipes so her job must be to look after them, or this guy is the barman but he won't serve me because I'm a foreigner, etc. I think it's nice to have things in the world that you might never get to fully understand, makes it feel more like a real world with its own shit going on, rather than a playground that very obviously revolves entirely around the player.

>If letting your mind wander as to what some guy might be doing somewhere is not rewarding in itself to you
I read that other anon's post thrice, but I didn't see him say this.............
>>
>>4065913
He literally said his main issue was the world being "dead and unreactive" and he gave a clear example of what he meant. Then I made a point about how the lack of explicit reactivity can be a part of the charm. What exactly are you struggling with here?

For some reason, you had higher reaction/rep with him so he didn't attack.
Yeah, Morrowind/Elder Scrolls is that retarded. Get high charisma, bandits and orcs and everything stops attacking you, they just stand or walk and look dumb.

The world did have quite an atmosphere back then, and great music, but seriously Bethesdaslop gameplay is a sad way to waste that potential.
>>
>>4068502
There's nothing wrong with gigaCHAds being able to avoid combat through personality checks. You can still kill them if you wish.
>>
>>4068502
>For some reason, you had higher reaction/rep with him so he didn't attack.
Wrong. Valenvaryon has hostile orcs, with the exception of one orc whose fight score is 30 instead of 90.
>>
>>4064945
It is true that the game manual lies to you and doesn't put enough emphasis on agility affecting magic as it should. Playing the game without someone explaining the basic mechanics to you will take quite a bit of trial and error before you get going.
>>
>>4068847
Well yeah, different mechanics but that's still what's so shitty about bethesdaslop. It is so cool running around in the world, but then you realise it's not proceduraly generated slop you are expected to kill time with, but pretty close. And the magic system is the same, the items are the same, all the quests are mostly like that.

Unfortunate. And that's from somebody that is nolstalgic just from hearing the theme on youtube.
>>
>>4069790
The same as what?
>>
>>4068847
So he's not even quest related? He's just a random orc who is happy to watch you slaughter his kinsmen?
>>
>>4069916
It’s likely a bug, a typo in his creature stats. The other orcs have a fight value of 90-100 while his is 30 (like a townperson)

It is an immaculate immersive experience. It's also always been janky as fuck, that's part of the charm.

Charm that comes from ignorance and bias. Wasn't that orc just the perfect example of this

>>4070506
I played Morrowind two times and never finished. It just stops being fun. Last time I stalled out once I got all stats to 100 and still have lots of shit to do. The non-linearity probably discourages me.

>>4070566
>The non-linearity probably discourages me.
same, you're becoming a demi-god within the first 10 hours whether you want it or not so that time when I finished it I decided to do the main quest only
>>
>>4065279
It doesn't need a remaster. I can't even think of any essential mods other than bugfixes.
It's not a perfect game by any means and has plenty of jank but none of it really matters.
>>
>>4070609
Body remodels with pubic hair
>>
>>4070566
The nonlinearity is one of the best parts to me. I've played about six or seven characters to endgame levels and only finished the main quest twice. It's as optional as everything else, and you're perfectly free to play a character that actually doesn't give a fuck about fulfilling the prophecy
>>
>>4070609

>>
>>4070694
All the jank I can think of is rooted deep in the core of its design. It's been years since the last time I played it but I never really felt the need for any QoL improvements.

and your first instinct is
>uhhmmm ACKshually i was just seekritly lurking their dicksword dev meeting and blahblah
no one told you to go do that. you retard. they told you to go play a fuckin mod.

ive never done something that retarded. why was that your idea of how to go check out a mod? why would you even think some modding discord for a 25yo game would be anything BUT a bunch of weird autists? how would you even know where to go in order to listen in on that? did you actually go to their website, then instead of DLing like a GB worth of files and just trying it yourself, you thought, "gee wiz i better go lurk their fucking discord like an autistic faggot"
do you even play videogames? or do you just fuck off on dicksword all day looking for fellow autistics to play special olympics with?

you dumb dramaniggers are as autistic, if not far more so, than any of the TRannys. which is fucking depressing, because at least they made something with all their wasted time. mfers made like 4 additional morrowinds worth of content, for free, and thats a problems somehow

No morrowind thread and I have a shameless new player question, I have played Oblivion/Skyrim.
Not looking to optimize, just want to have fun. Tried the preset nightblade class for a bit, but it didn't really have everything I wanted. Will this build rape me?

>Race/sex: Female khajiit
>Specialty: Magic
>Favored attributes: Speed, Willpower
>Major Skills: Mysticism, Alteration, Illusion, Sneak, Spear
>Minor Skills: Unarmored, Hand-to-Hand, Athletics, Acrobatics, Alchemy

Just worried that the wide attribute distribution on the skills (3 speed, 2 willpower, 1 strength, 1 intelligence, 1 agility, 1 endurance, 1 personality) will make it really weak late-game.

That is fine. You can never be weak late game unless you're retarded, you can be not as strong as some fag minmaxing but you should never be weak. Exploring the world will lead you to good items which is where a lot of your power will come from. Knowing where the best handplaced loot is and knowing how to abuse game mechanics are how people get OP early.
Even if you somehow fuck it all up, alchemy exists and you can make +1000 stat potions that lasts 100000 seconds even if you start with 5 alchemy as a misc skill.
>>
>>4077723
Looks good. Low alchemy will start out grindy though.
>>
>>4077723
Looks good to me, anon. It's not really something you should be too concerned with as a new player, but it's actually good to have a broad spread of attributes in your non-class skills, since it allows you to level attributes without increasing your character level too high - if you want to raise Strength you can go pay for some lessons in Long Blade for example, or Heavy Armour for Endurance. Compared to later games there's no cap on the number of times you can train per level, and training is very cheap at low skill levels.
