I got into it because of Persona. I know, I'm a larper, but I am young and I thought it was weird there wasn't a thread here. To me it's basically if Persona had engaging combat and darker tone. Playing IV right now. After about 5 tries, I beat the Minotaur with my whole party wiped except for me and one demon. It was our last turn too, so I was very lucky to have survived I suppose.

>persona 2
>persona 3 because of nostalgia, ps2 and finishing the game at 2 am probably helped me favorite it
>turn based combat, designs of lucifer, teenagers
>atlus golf for the NES, of course

Revelations: Persona
>Favorite and why
Devil Survivor and I don't know why it just sticks with me
>Some things you like about the series
Art direction is usually top tier, always enjoy the combat, think it generally does characters well
>Was it your first ATLUS series
Series? Yes. Game? No. The Karate Kid was my first. That game fucking sucked.
>>
>First
Persona 4
>Favorite and why
Persona 4 because I was a lonely nerd and it was basically a friend simulator for me.
>What are some things you like about the series?
I love the blend of modern and sci-fi elements with magic and monsters.
>Was it your first ATLUS series?
Yes.

In my experience the people who call SMT mainline and Persona a spinoff are both the least invested in the series and the least interesting fans.

Anyway, my favourite is by far Persona Q.
And iirc my intro to Megaten was something like,
>P3 > Nocturne > P1 > Persona Q > P4 Arena > P4 > Strange Journey DS > P4DAN > DDS
And so on.

P2 Punishment on PS1

SMT mainline : 1 and 2 for the plot, 3 for the aesthetics, 5 for the gameplay.

I love systems-centric games and the occult themes.

OP here. This is exactly how it was for me. Game changed my life.

>First
Persona 3 Portable, then Nocturne was the first SMT I played, and then Strange Journey is the first one I beat. I dont think badly about Persona on principal but I do think the distinction between it and SMT is needed because of the vastly different concepts they follow
>Favorite
Right now I think I'd say Devil Survivor, catch me on a full moon and I might say Strange Journey instead that one's incredibly solid, but I like how DeSu fuses turn based combat with a trpg system to have the best of both worlds, I like the story actually focusing on a normal world shifting into a apocalypse rather than just going "BAM nukes dropped, it's post-apocalypse already lets get this moving", and I actually liked how they handled the routes without going strictly law-neutral-chaos (Even though you can assign an alignment to all of them if you wanted), its funny that even in the end you can still choose to tell everyone to fend for themselves and run away because of course some people would prefer that option.
Unofficially my favorite is actually eraMegaten, I think it does a great job of using most every big mechanic in the series in a single TEXT BASED game, the sexy stuff is just a nice bonus
>Things you like
For some reason just the general concept of summoning and controlling demons has yet to lose its flavor to me, I'm always down for shit like that and SMT captures it really well. Fusion autism is really fun too, im the kind of guy who actually likes the preparation parts of an rpg as much as the actual combat, being able to tinker with my party members and perfect them.
>First ATLUS series?
That would be Persona, unless theres some rpg I buried in my memory that happened to be atlus seeing as they have their hands in a few cookie jars when it comes to that
>>
>first
DemiKids Light Version (had no idea what SMT was at the time)
>favorite
Persona 1 (which is a real SMT game, unlike the other Personas. I hate P2 and despise P2 fans. P3/4/5 are decent but not for me.)
>things you like
Dungeon crawlers with good atmosphere and theming but as little story as possible

Emulated SMT1, just because I played most things Aeon Genesis felt like doing a TL hack for in the '00s. Although I may have rented Persona 1 PSX at some point and then never got more than 15 minutes in. The atmosphere of SMT1, particularly the start, was very interesting but I know I almost completely ignored the fusion system and just nuked the game by grinding and directly recruiting and obviously didn't like it much. I hadn't even played pokemon at that point and had no context for monster party games.
