What kind of mechanics do you want to see more on an RPG? Both in and out of combat. I've played all the classics, and Zero-Ao is probably peak turn-based RPG battle system. But the non-combat stuff was just alright. It also started the Trails dating system.
>>
I'd like more puzzle solving and dungeon diving. I'd also like to play a jrpg that has some sort of perk system like Fallout. No clue if that exists though.
>>
I know purists will get angry but I hate random encounters. I'm glad most modern turn-based RPGs let you run past enemies if you want.

Who cares what (You) want? The last decent RPGs were published over a decade ago, in 2010/2011.
Since then, it’s become more cost-effective for games to pander to the unwashed masses. It doesn’t matter what you want, there will never be a good cRPG ever again.

Clair Obscur was GOTY last year. Dragon Quest 11 and SMT 5 were great too.

This board doesn't like anything that gets praise and isn't niche. They've gotta be cool and contrarian for the 11 people on this board.

Sounds like crosscode.

settlement building. In general, letting the player change the gameworld dramatically
>>
or at least being able to not only recruit party members / do quests, but to also GIVE quests (somehow)

Name them, namefag.

Let me start by mentioning that I adhere to the lilurian distinction of cRPGs from “RPG games”.

Fallout: NV and Skyrim are decent “RPG games”. Not high art by any stretch of the imagination, but enjoyable the way junk food is.

The last good computer roleplaying games were those of the Infinity Engine era. Since then, we’ve had a steady decline in quality, as it became more profitable to target games to drones with no agency or internal monologue. By the time we got to Fallout 3, the situation was beyond saving. I won’t even comment on modern “RPG games” like the Outer Worlds, that are cognitohazards, offensive to the senses of ensouled beings. Attempts to revive the cRPG genre have been humiliating, degrading instances of cargo cult-ing (PoE, Pathfinder, Tyranny, DE, Underrail, Atom), that make me embarrassed to be associated with the hobby, and with the subhuman troglodytes that frequent this board.

Of note, if you weren’t a normie casual that has contributed to the destruction of the genre, you should have been able to infer what games I was referring to just based on the release years I mentioned.

Clair Obscur is not an RPG. It’s also not a good game. The fact that it was heralded as game of the year by masses of assimilated drones, corporate shills and YouTubers farming Adsense money should be enough proof for that.

Regarding the other two “products” you mentioned, that do not even deserve to be called games: any man with a modicum of self respect would choose to get tarred and feathered over playing a “J”-“RPG”. I am not an insecure preteen that struggles to talk to girls, and I can therefore not engage with that genre. I cannot believe there’s living, breathing human beings with voting rights that would praise RPGs made for the “Nintendo”.

quit huffing your own farts and take off the nametag, otherwise >>>/r/eddit

Why is this thread so mean? There are only like 5 of us on this board.

You would enjoy Starfield, Avowed or Fallout 3.

I’m using a nametag only to disrespect (You). If I could force the denizens of /vrpg/ to look at a full-screen picture of a middle finger before reading my posts, I’d do that instead.

The cRPG genre is dead and almost all the men that played them have moved on. What’s left over is a handful of freakshow mongrel manchildren, arguing about which committee-designed piece of content best numbed eighty hours of their pitiable existence.
>>
Space combat. Yes I know Rogue Trader had it, but I want it not turn-based.
>>
Something like Armored Core, but like, turn-based
>inb4 that's just Front Mission
YEAH AND IT'S BEEN DEAD SINCE THE PS2 ERA, ARE YOU SEEING AN ISSUE HERE WITH THE "NEW" PART?

wow you're so cool bro, I bet you have lots of sex and go to all the parties

Personally, I want descriptions to be better written but there are different metrics to judge that but I think that unintentionally vague descriptions are obviously badly written. There are two styles that I like to be explored:
>written like a TCG
>written with lore friendly context clues
