Are there any good rpgs with insanely complex combat mechanics? I haven't been able to find any, even among retro games. Is there an rpg where you basically need a phd to understand how to win a battle? Rpgs in general seem way too simplistic to me. They always leave me wanting more mechanics and complexity. I want every battle to feel like some insane 4D chess bullshit.
Why, so the next threads you can make are to complain about how convoluted they are? No thanks. This site is unusable already. If you want to know they are already known, I'm not going to spoonfeed you.
>>4078641no I meant I want people who aren't cringe inducing reddit edgelord children to give their opinion on the matter. I guess I should have been more clear on that. my bad
>>4078476You are confusing complexity with difficulty. For example, the crpgs with objectively the most complex combat mechanics are Divinity: Original Sin 2 and Baldur's Gate 3. in that there's a ton of subsystems interacting in a highly dynamic manner that no other games even come close to, yet, neither are particularly difficult. Meanwhile, something like Dungeon Rats is very simplistic mechanically, yet quite difficult indeed.
>>4078476Jagged Alliance 2.
>>4078476If you want to solve “insanely complex” problems, why not just go to work, you fucking retard? Literally what is the difference between working and reading up on pages and pages of made-up rules to figure out the “best synergies”?
>>4078781>you fucking retardwork is too easy and I do not get mentally exhausted. I need to squeeze the brain juice much harder than anything in everyday life can provide, hence the request.
>>4078781Not him but I want complex, difficult problems without real life consequences for failure and I want to solve them on my own without retards bothering me, that's why I play videogames
>>4078793>complex, difficult problemsWhat gave you the idea you'd find that in video games?
>>4078794Wouldn't know where else to look, other hobbies are passive or expensive and/or group based
>>4078781stupid retarded subhuman namefag
>>4078476Realms of Arkania series
>>4078476>I want every battleMost competent game designers understand that even complex, difficult games work best with a reasonable difficulty curve and pacing. Almost nobody wants every single battle to be maximum intensity, especially not from the get-go.
>>4078781oh let me see:>getting to do something really fun on your own terms>not having to slave away 8h a day like a cuck>getting free money from retarded slaves like (You) anywayit's a mystery
>>4078840oh this looks fucking sick. I'll definitely give this one a try
>>4078908I'm pretty autistic and actually do want every single battle to make me feel like my brain is running a marathon
Vagrant story
>>4078476Wizard 4? if you meant needing proper balanced teams and the fights are all hard for the sake of being hard.
>>4078840>>4079146if you want skills for everything, i think MnM6 did that too.
>>4078476Darklands.
>>4078476You don't want an RPG. You want a sim.
>>4079751Fuck, I never knew there was a 4.0. We had Falcon 3.0 and Tornado as a kid. The manuals were hundreds of pages long
>>4078476Knights of Legend. Has a very granular combat system involving attack/defense maneuvers, body locations, armor, weapons, fatigue, wounds, etc.
>>4079496>Wizardry 4?
>>4078476It isn't as complex as you're looking for but Epic Battle Fantasy 5 makes you swap out your equips damn near every other battle to minmax resists and weaknesses.
>>4080718you don't have to though? i found that i can easily beat most battles with status-effects gear, or just "generic" builds that work well enough on various elemental resists. resistances against instant death and accuracy debuffs are important though.but most of the time i just optimise my gear for not-pokemon catching.
>>4078476if you want complexity for the sake of it, you can always try pathfinder. A relatively simple combat system that requires you pre plan a very specific build otherwise you brick yourself on harder difficulties. If you want complex combat that's actually rewarding, you should play action rpg's like Nioh. Tons of subsystems, huge movesets to learn, lots of builds to tweak your character to peak preformance in the end game. Honestly, RPGS aren't generally good for complex combat, you better off playing multiplayer games like RTS or fighting games for that.
>>4078476>Day #846 of Natural Doctrine shillingIdk about plot and such, but you won't find a game with more sophisticated turn-based combat system than this.If you are a battle system fag, then this vidya was made for you.
>>4083162>Honestly, RPGS aren't generally good for complex combat, you better off playing multiplayer games like RTS or fighting games for that.Unfortunately RPG nerds typically don't have the brain or skills for those
