Richard Garriott is trying to get the Ultima trademark back from EA. He just did a presentation on it at Dragoncon. It's possible they might license it back to him, since he already owns the trademark for Lord British and parts of the pre-1992 Ultima properties, apart from the "Ultima" name itself. Since EA has been bought by the Saudis. Would you play a new single-player Ultima game if Lord British published one?
Yeah bro, I'd love to play Shroud of the Avatar 2 frfr no cap
>>4085822>EA sold to Saudis>Give rights to new Ultima game to Lord British>RG releases Hijab of the Avatar>8 Virtues replaced with the 3 Pillars>Allahu Akalabeth!
>>4085774There are already games that are official successors made by original devs under a different name, like Contraption Maker was made by the devs of The Incredible Machine. Nothing stops Garriot from just changing a few things and coasting on his name. Granted, only grognards will know who he is but they will be the primary audience.
>>4085774nothing stopping him from making remakes of the 1st trilogy, which lack more "modern" content and retconned plots.i would trust him more if he bankrolled Tibia. that just wants to make more MMOs with 10000 dollar castle DLC bullshit.
>>4085774>trying>possible they might license it back to himEA dont have a choice, they have to give it up due to US law, creators can move to reclaim certain rights to their work 35 years after they transferred them.
>>4085774Ultima only got good at Ultima IV and that was due to Richard hiring far more talented people than he was. He's an ideas guy not a game designer
>>4086007What if he hires really talented people again?
>>4085860>a rube goldberg machine building game is... le OFFICIAL SUCCESSOR to Ultimabot post?
>>4086284>I am a retardThe level of reading comprehension on /vrpg/ is truly grim.
>>4086289The topic is a new Ultima game, it's great that some Origin people went on to create a completely different non-RPG non-Ultima game, but you positioned that as an OFFICIAL SUCCESSOR.Just admit it, you're a bot.
>>4085855Probably not, Saudis are more favorable of the West than modern day western liberals are.
>>4086025he hasnt got any money. really talented people dont work for peanuts.the next Ultima will be a kickstarter, you can guarantee it
