Richard Garriott is trying to get the Ultima trademark back from EA. He just did a presentation on it at Dragoncon. It's possible they might license it back to him, since he already owns the trademark for Lord British and parts of the pre-1992 Ultima properties, apart from the "Ultima" name itself. Since EA has been bought by the Saudis. Would you play a new single-player Ultima game if Lord British published one?
Yeah bro, I'd love to play Shroud of the Avatar 2 frfr no cap
>>4085822>EA sold to Saudis>Give rights to new Ultima game to Lord British>RG releases Hijab of the Avatar>8 Virtues replaced with the 3 Pillars>Allahu Akalabeth!
>>4085774There are already games that are official successors made by original devs under a different name, like Contraption Maker was made by the devs of The Incredible Machine. Nothing stops Garriot from just changing a few things and coasting on his name. Granted, only grognards will know who he is but they will be the primary audience.
>>4085774nothing stopping him from making remakes of the 1st trilogy, which lack more "modern" content and retconned plots.i would trust him more if he bankrolled Tibia. that just wants to make more MMOs with 10000 dollar castle DLC bullshit.
>>4085774>trying>possible they might license it back to himEA dont have a choice, they have to give it up due to US law, creators can move to reclaim certain rights to their work 35 years after they transferred them.
>>4085774Ultima only got good at Ultima IV and that was due to Richard hiring far more talented people than he was. He's an ideas guy not a game designer
>>4086007What if he hires really talented people again?
>>4085860>a rube goldberg machine building game is... le OFFICIAL SUCCESSOR to Ultimabot post?
>>4086284>I am a retardThe level of reading comprehension on /vrpg/ is truly grim.
>>4086289The topic is a new Ultima game, it's great that some Origin people went on to create a completely different non-RPG non-Ultima game, but you positioned that as an OFFICIAL SUCCESSOR.Just admit it, you're a bot.
>>4085855Probably not, Saudis are more favorable of the West than modern day western liberals are.
>>4086025he hasnt got any money. really talented people dont work for peanuts.the next Ultima will be a kickstarter, you can guarantee it
>>4089924Dude the dopey Prince is going to sell off all his video games sooner than later. He has real bills to pay and zero income right now.
>>4085774yes. Richard is a hot turd of a human. but Ultima defined my RPG youth
>>4105139i sure hope his DBZ themepark works out. and im not even arabic beans. new DBZ RPG funded by saudis when?
>>4085863>HE just wants to make more MMOs with 10000 dollar castle DLC bullshit.
No motherfucking way is that a Class of '09 reference my nigga
>>4085774no. he's still a fucking faggot for scamming everyone with "lol all your abilities that aren't on CD's are random cards that pop up hahaha so randumb :^)" shroud
>>4120399truth n unvirtuos he be!
he got it
>>4085774Garriott is a hack, the most impressive Ultima games (4 and 5) were largely not done by him, and it's obvious too from the stark contrast between the autism simulator that was 3 and the first attempt at a serious narrative in vidya in 4.
>>4124106one month is quite a turnaround
>>4124525>>4131002I would rather have another Garriott-led Ultima entry, than just Ultima Online continuing to be milked endlessly by EA.
>>4131131>Garriott-led Ultima entry, than just Ultima Online continuing to be milked endlessly by EA.given that LB tried to make another MMO to milk it right after quitting EA/Origin, you're a fool to think he cares about single-player RPGs.
>>4085774All these old gamedev legends are completely useless in the modern industry.Ok, you made games back when they were simple enough to make alone or with a tiny team?Cool, but that talent does not translate into leadership and project management. You're now just a useless idea guy who brings nothing except name recognition and money to the table.
>>4131278I can never hate the man who brought us Final Fantasy and ran a D&D larp haunted house for the public out of his multimillion dollar castle home.Even if the space trip was kind of scammy, who among us wouldn't do that sort of thing?I'd rather see him try and fail than another mid Saaaarfield be produced.I don't think he has the backbone to stand up against liberal gamedev and hiring practices though and come through with something good but it is a thing that should be done. The ones to do it properly are going to win the next generation of gaming. Tainted Grail is doing awesomely on a shoestring budget for example.Talk about aislop all you want, but there hasn't been an opportunity for a lone dev or small team to get their ideas out from under the suffocating mass of corporate memphis grub hub dei liberalism like this in some time.It is essentially the same environment we have now that he distinguished himself in the first place, a technical environment in which no one knew what they were doing anymore, and an artistic environment bereft of actually legitimate RPG things that weren't MMOs, Gacha, Action games with a couple of RPGesque skill trees, DEI seminars, etc. etc. etc..He probably will fail, and you can come back here later and say 'see I told you so' and go back to sucking on Genshin Impact teat or whatever brainrot you're into but we'll all be poorer for it.
