What's the best version/port of this game?
Each of them have nitpicks that bother me.
>Original is extremely obtuse/Menu simulator
>Llygamyn saga on ps1 has a map but is partially in japanese
>Modern remaster has combat animations that slow down the game and no proper map.

Wizardry I-II-III Story of Llylgamyn on Super Famicom.

It has a complete translation and enough QoL features that you shouldn't need much help. The dungeons are the remixed versions the NES versions had. If you keep complaining about superficial things with this then you are beyond help.

I swear by the PC 98 versions. Mostly for the particular look, but it's refreshingly straightforward to play and configure for its day without altering the game balance.

If you have to mash through battle text like the PS1 ports then it's shit.

Set Timer to anything except infinite and that doesn't happen. You're probably playing on emulator anyway so you already have a turbo fire button.

Does the SNES version have a map? If yes then i'd definitely play it.

Yes, it has a map.

Irrelevant.

Automaps kill 80% of the gameplay in Wizardry so don't use it.

why would anyone want to play this fossil of a game in any other way that the original version out of historical interest?
Extremely stupid to me. Just play the Apple ][ or DOS version like a big boy.

The only things in Japanese are the menus for each game like, before you start them. Once you toggle the in game menu to English for each title you're gucci. You can also export from 3 to 5 on PS1 since New Age of Llylgamyn.

You can use those sprites in Llylgamyn Saga iirc. The ones I saw a couple days ago when messing with the settings looked like that instead of the ones I'm used to like the OP, even down to the windows being more horizontal.
>>4090635
I love the way those sprites look, that's cool as fuck.

It does make the game less engaging, but I don't think it totally kills the experience. I do recommend people give mapping by hand a try cuz it is lots of fun. You can also turn mapping off and have Dumapic only print coordinates in Llylgamyn Saga too so the sheer amount of options is why I usually recommend that port.

Cuz it's fun as hell, dude. I got curious about it after going through the SMT1 to Etrian Odyssey 1 pipeline and I found it was a very engaging and focused experience.
>DOS version
Pretty sure they fucked up dice rolls on level up in that port which means you lose stats way more often than you're supposed to. If you're not going to save scum your level ups (something I don't think you really -need- to do), it just makes it harder for no reason.
