You cannot argue in good faith against this masterpiece. It is objectively the greatest video roleplaying game ever created, and honestly probably the best video game ever created. Why do Millennials hate fun? Why do they hate the West incarnate?
>The last Oblivion thread is still up
Good, now there are two good threads on the board. No other RPG is worthy of discussion at this point.

I'm not going to engage in a pissing contest with other TES titles, but Oblivion is unironically great, charming, comfy, fun and immersive. I spent 250 hours on it, and don't regret a thing.
>>
Having the spell slot be activatable with a weapon equipped felt streets ahead. Made playing a spellsword type of character a lot of fun.
>>
>>4095248
The combat is dogshit though. I only had fun in Oblivion as a spellthief who either used pure stealth, or made enemies fight each other, or stunlocked an enemy to death instead of fighting.

100% agree . i played oblivion till my playstation 3 died

Git gud. You need to think tactically. If you're a tank, cover your rear with something solid. If you're a lightweight, lunge and retreat like fucking Errol Flynn. If fighting indoors, use doorways and stairs to bottleneck your opponents.
Oblivion combat accommodates multiple styles and a variety of tactics.

oblivion is my favorite elder scrolls game, i even enjoyed the remaster

Im always worried about not getting 3 +5s on level ups and ending too weak for the game come lvl 20. Some builds it doesnt really matter, but for hybrids it matters a lot
>>
>>4097045
What's a build where that matters?
>>
>>4097045
Just play organically and in-character and then console your stat gains to be plausible but optimal. It’s better than sperging about imperfect level ups and playing in a gamey and unrealistic fashion to min-max.
>>
>>4097077 (you)
Like, just imagine how fucked up it is that people unironically suggest, in a Roleplaying Game, “never pick skills you actually use as your class skills. Make sure you only pick skills you will never use, so that you never accidentally level up by mistake”
>>
>>4097088
The average attribute options for a spellsword type of build are gonna be +2 for 5 different attributes, and maybe one is a +3 if you use you major skills only. At level 20 youre gonna be getting trucked by everything because your main stats are 60-70 and youve got no HP because you didnt grind minor endurance skills in the early levels.

But in practice you'll plateau much earlier since the major skills will take a lot longer to level and you can clear 10 dungeons without seeing a level up. Then suddenly you get a level up and the difficulty goes through the roof so you just drop the difficulty in the option menu and keep having fun.
>>
>>4097169
If you had to choose only 3 attributes for you spellsword, what would they be?
>>
>>4097207
endurance, willpower, strength
>>
>>4097211
How would you maximize those stats at character creation?
>>
>>4097217
I wouldnt because that would cap my sell casting at apprentice level spells and make me slow as fuck for the entire run, which is a big deal when traveling which is something you do often.
>>
>>4097312
Sounds like the trade-off for choosing to play a hybrid instead of a pure class.

Btw magic (fortify speed, feather) or a horse makes traveling faster. Potions, enchantments and powers to increase magicka.

Though we all know you'll choose to grind those +5s and still complain about it until the end of your days, because you're just that fucking boring.

I literally cannot force myself to play it as an adult which is not the case for any other bethesda shit. I dont know why. I think its just too easy once you have a cursory understanding of the gameplay and really almost all of the games content is just the faction questlines

Tbh, I mainly blame its weakness on it having a severely limited modding scene compared to skyrim and morrowind. I would rank vanilla oblivion over vanilla skyrim but once mods are taken into consideration oblivion gets completely BTFO.
>>
>>4102846
>having a severely limited modding scene
How so?
>>
>>4102911
Whats there to explain? Morrowind and skyrim mods are more in count, activity and complexity.
>>
>>4103566
>Morrowind and skyrim mods are more in count, activity and complexity
I personally think that Oblivion is inferior to Morrowind and Skyrim, but this is a weak argument. All three games come with the modding tools, which are relatively simple to use. If you have specific issues with gameplay elements, rules, or items, you can and should very easily make a small mod yourself to tailor the game to your liking.
For example, the last time I played Oblivion, I made small mods to cap the scaling of infinite-scaling sponge enemies at their “true” level, and I removed rare material types like glass and Daedric from random leveled lists, so I almost never saw them in the game.
Many TES modders are fools with poor taste who will almost never do exactly what you want and only what you want. Relying on modders to fundamentally remake the game with sweeping changes, or simply appealing to the number or complexity of mods, is a fool’s errand.
>>
>>4103916
Yeah, you can make mods for oblivion but how does this change the fact it has less mods than skyrim and morrowind?

This is not confrontational but you clearly havent been following the Oblivion modding scene. Just recently an OBSE plugin released that allows custom skills to be used as major skills, this is huge. There's also another plugin from a few months back that adds SPEARS into the game. Not swords that look like spears but act like swords but actual spears where the only issue is their animations are janky and not made right for creatures such as goblins. There's already a few custom skill mods that are made compatible with the former mod and more will probably follow. Then there's all the existing stuff like all kinds of different UI mods, both vanilla and really extensive ones like Northern UI or the achievements menu, OCRAFT which adds smithing, cooking and material refining into the game. There's the series of "radiant" quests for all the factions including one where you can join the Imperial Legion.

There's huge progress in Oblivion modding, you just dont hear about it because people rather jerk off the modding in the other two games hence its also a slower progression in comparison to the other two.
>>
>>4105344
I had to use a script extender to put a minimap on the HUD in Oblivion, while that was a basic functionality of vanilla Morrowind
>>
>>4105531
i modded the shit out of skyrim but i didn't do much with oblivion either it didn't work correctly or it was just not interesting

>>
>>4094293

>>
>>4105531

Tell me you didnt bother learning the game's mechanics without telling me you didnt bother learning the game's mechanics.
>>
>>4105651
>So by that logic MSWE is also a detriment and that in turn makes Morrowind the inferior game?
Your reading comprehension is exceptionally poor. I don’t need to use MWSE at all. It was an example of how Oblivion’s interface regressed from Morrowind, as Oblivion was a console-first RPG ported to PC, while Morrowind was a PC RPG ported to console.
>>
>>4105652
No, its you who is selectively nitpicking issues that dont exist. I gave examples on the game's rapid modding progress and you jumped at the chance to complain about a single instance that would only inconvenience the laziest of lazy people and in turn, it only makes you look petty at best. Your speechcraft skill must be like 5 because you missed the entire arguement that stands right in front of your face.
>>
>>4105651
no i very autistically learned the game mechanics on Xbox 360 rolled a second character and used tally marks and made sure i maxed endurance first and got 100 in all skills and stats except luck
>>
>>4094293
the most confounding thing to me about oblivion is how its been 20yrs of weird nerds trying to get sweaty and outsmart the game, and they almost always end up considerably weaker than the "LOLE I PICKED THE COOL SOUNDING SKILLZ" class made by any random 12yo back in 2006.
its as if no one ever bothered to go look at any of the actual formulas on uesp.

>>4095255
git gud
literally tho
just get your weapon skills, take them as main so they lvl up faster, and then use that weapon until your skill goes up. 100 skill is so much more impactful than 100 STR in terms of dmg. its not even close too, its like 3x more impactful point for point

ime 90% of ppls problems with this games difficulty and/or combat system stems from them playing some stupid class where they only took skills they never intended on using as majors. this is bad for several reasons. not only do you start like 30 skill lvls behind the guy who majored in it, but minor skills take about twice as long to lvl, so you stay behind all game. AND youre not gonna lvl as fast so you wont get as good loot. you just make yourself weaker, make it harder to level up, and all for basically no upside the only real "upside" is youll have extra points to get useless shit like PER and LCK up to 100
>>
>>4105825
even thats kind of a myth
if youre putting points into END on a lvl, no matter how few pts youre putting in, even if it doesnt get up to the next 10END "break point", you get a bonus to your max HP. every level you can do that. so even if you just get 2s and 3s all game, if youre lvling END every lvl, itll add up to quite a lot over 30-40 lvls

idk how seemingly everyone hasnt noticed this, but its actually substantially different from how it works in morrowind and quite a bit more fair imo
you simply do not need to rush END like you do in MW. it doesnt matter at all unless youre specifically building your character to be a super tank, then sure yea youd want END up ASAP. but for any other playstyle it is not a big deal at all
>>
>>4105825
What >>4105846 >>4105853 said is spot on. People overcomplicate and overthink oblivion to the point where its that and that alone that hurts their experience not stuff like the make-belief """""leveling problem"""""". You can apply the exact same logic you do for Morrowind and your build will work just fine. Explore, use scrolls, potions, enchantments, spells, the works. Ya know, play the damn game.
>>
>>4105861
the funny thing is how i think the misconception came primarily from morrowind players

like we all played the shit out of morrowind, and tore its mechanics apart talking online and with frens irl. we knew skills and fatigue were among the most important things in the game. then we got to oblivion, and for some reason, most ppl decided that wasnt true anymore. we thought
>skills and fatigue no longer affect chance to hit
>so they must be useless, right?
then the more tryhardy of us set about trying to play "against" the actual in-game mechanics, to try to break it. ultimately probably resulting in a character that was even weaker than before. and that seems to have caused a feedback loop.
>struggle with the game because its level brackets are admittedly kinda wonky
>suddenly clannfears
>get btfo
>oh i mustve fucked up the build
>scrap your character
>roll a new one
>ok ill count everything autistically and ONLY get +5s
>still not any gud because you dont have any of your main skills you wanna use as majors
>dont do quests because youre too busy powerleveling
>end up even weaker despite having 100 STR and END
>repeat
cue the 26hr videoessays about "muh black sheep of the series"

if youre having trouble in oblivion, the actual answer is almost always
>your skills are too low and/or you have 0 fatigue
if things feel spongy? its probably because you have 0 fatigue and 30 blade and youre like lvl12. if you cant actually cast enough magic to end a simple combat encounter? your skills are probably too low it massively lowers cast cost
the overwhelming importance of attributes in MW tricked everyone into thinking that that was the only thing left that mattered. in reality most attributes only provide a very small linear buff, and the rest is all skills. the difference is only noticeable over the course of the game. attributes are just there to make characters feel/play different in the mid/lategame. its not where you get most of your power
>>
>>4105853
>>4105861
You are responding to a person who grinded every skill to 100.
>>
>>4105885
after minmaxing this game and becoming an unkillable god in 5 different ways, the major/minor skill system is ass backwards and i don't miss it in skyrimeme

however the lack of stats in skyrimeme really crimp character diversity so i'd like that back in the next one
>>
>>4105908
well thats another thing you dont really need to do either
you shouldnt have to "grind" in oblivion at all maybe restoration, but thats the completely retarded exception.

you get 5 training sessions a lvl. so do them. thats +5 in a skill, and also a +3 (at least) in whatever corresponding attribute, without even doing anything. then just play and use all your major skills. if you use one main weapon type all game, it will get to 100 by like lvl 30s ime. no grinding with an iron dagger on shadowmere for irl hrs. just playing normally. if youre some flavor of mage, take your favored school as a major, then use that spell school as your main. itll be 100 before you know it, depending on which school it is conjuration is super fast. you can still use other schools that you didnt pick as well obv, theyll just cost a little more to cast, and wont lvl up nearly as fast. but then you can train them with trainers too if you want. so its no big deal.

athletics and restoration are rly the only two completely egregious ones, where even if you take them as majors, theyll fuckin never get to 100 unless youre doing some powerlevel cheese shit in between lvls. but you also dont rly need athletics or resto at 100. its not as impactful to combat as the various damage type skills are to have up i always made a spell to fortify my athletics for a few seconds and zip around the map anyways, so that kinda leveled both, in addition to just being fun
>>
>>4105938
>well thats another thing you dont really need to do either
Yes, you don't need to grind every skill to 100
>>
>>4105938
consider increasing the difficulty and it brings "i've fought mudcrabs more fearsome than you" to a whole new level

this game on max difficulty was nuts but i beat it

as for grinding all skills to 100 i also closed all the oblivion gates until no more gates spawned and try to collect all the varla and welkynd stones (this one was too autismo and i gave up after like 100 or something)
>>
>>4105950
just a couple notches up is fine for me
on max, ime, it just turns into conjuration + illusion, and then hide. and then every combat encounter is a comedy sketch lol

yea thatll do it lol

if you ever get bored and wanna play again, ive been using this mod
https://www.nexusmods.com/oblivion/mods/24915
and its made it a lot of fun
its not "balanced", at all, but it does finally make enchanting feel like it did in morrowind ie absolutely broken and fun
you can re-enchant your gear, several times, with multiple effects, with the amount of effects you can add to things being based on your mysticism level. maxing out at 100 mysticism which allows for 7 effects which is probably WAY too high but lol before the item may potentially explode.
that alone would make it pretty fun, but then you can also custom enchant arrows, re-enchant existing weapons/staffs to give them way more max charge or way less charge and TONS more dmg, enchant weapons with constant effect enchantments like shield or restore fatigue, etc

its a good time all around. you rly feel that point that you used to get to in morrowind, where your enchantments have suddenly elevated you to literal demigod status. and so long as you dont get too cheesy like 100% reflect or chameleon or some other insanity, you can still have a pretty good time, since oblivions difficulty is already the highest in the series
>>
>>4106706
100% reflect is how my friend IRL became unkillable

we both agreed that the goal of oblivion is to become more powerful than god
>>

>No, its you who is selectively nitpicking issues that dont exist.
Oblivion's interface was infamously bad and an obvious downgrade from Morrowind's, to the point that the first advice to anyone playing the game will be to install an interface mod to make it not stupid.
>I gave examples on the game's rapid modding progress
I'm not that anon complaining about Oblivion lacking mods. My modlist was probably less than a dozen, half of which I made myself.
>and you jumped at the chance to complain about a single instance that would only inconvenience the laziest of lazy people and in turn, it only makes you look petty at best.
You're very likely confusing me with someone else, but to humor you and respond at face value:
Do you play Oblivion with Darnified UI or similar? Yes or no? (It's yes)
Would you immediately and unquestioningly recommend that anyone playing Oblivion use Darnified UI or similar? Yes or no? (It's yes)
Oblivion's interface is almost universally panned as garbage, and fixing it on PC is a virtual must. That is neither petty, nor lazy.
>>

>>
>>4106766
Oh sorry, I somehow misread you saying "I'm not the only anon who". My bad.
>>
>>4106769
Np, cheers bud.
For the record, it’s been a few years since replaying Oblivion, but the main ones I needed to suit to taste were the requisite UI mods, and a couple I made myself to cap the scaling of the few infinite scaling enemies, and to remove rare/high level equipment materials from leveled lists. I think I only saw one suit of glass in the whole game, and only saw Daedric on the dremora.
Few more small tweaks to game settings and items but those are the big ones. I am a proponent of “less is more” with modding, I prefer a generally vanilla experience but with specific and targeted tweaks I think improve the game.
>>
>>4106756
Darnified UI is extremely overrated. All it does is make inventory and menu elements smaller so that more of them fit on screen at once, but its so aggresive the point that it becomes a detriment with usage and also compatibility with other mods since the thing is ancient and hasnt been updated since 2000 and freaking 8. If you want a truly flexible, modern and also fresh looking UI you go to Northern UI that has tons of tweakable settings and broader compatibility and if you are a vanilla autist (like me) a better option is Major Jim's which it keeps the vanilla look but removes unessecary spacing and makes elements just the right size so nothing is too big nor too small along with extra info like seeing your bonuses on attributes or whatnot. My point wasnt that you shouldnt mod oblivion's UI but to not make a huge deal out of needing to use a dependancy for it since, ya know, 90% of mods out there need it anyway so why complain?
>>
>>4106771
one thing i always use for leveled unique loot is the mod that auto-updates them to the higher tier upon leveling up. just makes it more fun to be able to wander around doing quests with unique rewards, without worrying about doing them "too early"

as for the general loot? ive been thinking about how id fix the leveled loot problem, and my idea is just to lower the floor of all leveled loot lists. such that as you level up, higher tier loot does still start to spawn in, but all lower tiers also do too at an equal rate. i think that would incidentally fix the economy somewhat too. i already have a mod where vendors have set amounts of gold, and that works ok, but its not enough. still too ez to find like one piece of armor and sell out all their gold

now that said, i like having the higher tier enemies and bosses spawning in with glass and daedric. i think it makes for fun fights. the only silly part is when its like robbers on the side of the road wearing 20k gold worth of armor. still, im not against the "boss" bandit having top gear. i know oblivion has that kind of level differential mechanic baked into most of its encounters anyways, so i wonder if i could just not touch those lists, and leave em like they are while changing all others.
probably be a massive bitch tho since theres like a gorillion leveled lists in oblivion
>>
>>4106812
There's mods for that already
>>
>>4106781
>My point wasnt that you shouldnt mod oblivion's UI but to not make a huge deal out of needing to use a dependancy for it since, ya know, 90% of mods out there need it anyway so why complain?
Fair points. I meant my comment along the lines of “we used to have the technology [to go to the moon], but now it’s lost, and we can’t go back” re: the regression of the vanilla interface from game to game
>>
>>4106812
>mod that auto-updates them to the higher tier upon leveling up. just makes it more fun to be able to wander around doing quests with unique rewards, without worrying about doing them "too early"
Yes, I’d consider that one mandatory as well. Leveled rewards is a very stupid design decision.
>probably be a massive bitch tho since theres like a gorillion leveled lists in oblivion
It’s not that bad. Doing the same thing in Skyrim to remove dragonbone/glass/ebony/daedric/etc from the random leveled lists was way more tedious since there’s a lot more lists there.
There are mods that purport to do that but in my experience they’re either incomplete or do things I don’t want, hence rolling my own
>>
Oblivion is truly the only TES game with good quests.

Morrowind quests are so shit is mind-blowing.
>>
>>4106937
>Leveled rewards is a very stupid design decision
People wouldn't even care if not for the couple rewards with reflect spell/damage for minmaxing purposes
>>
>>4107050
its not a huge deal, since the actual best stuff is usually not uniques, but rather super rare random loot ring of perfection, acrobats amulet, amulet of reflection, etc

but theres a couple notable ones where its nice to be able to actually use the cool gear you got as a quest reward for the rest of your game. especially so for quest reward spells like wizards fire. getting stuck with the cuck version of that spell is a huge bummer, since you cant make anything even close to as good as it. spelldrinker is another item. looks cool, has a unique model, and its rly powerful if you get it late enough. but its just not that fun or intuitive to have to delay completing most of the mages guild until youre halfway through the game. kinda goes against the whole open-ended design of the game
>>
>>4107133
>its not a huge deal, since the actual best stuff is usually not uniques, but rather super rare random loot
Yeah, even the spelldrinker amulet you mentioned is only 6pts better at lvl 30, than the random one you can find at lvl 14. It's not worth fretting over, is it?
>>
>>4107050
>People wouldn't even care if not for […] minmaxing
Nah. On purely philosophical grounds. It’s a genuinely dumb mechanic (downstream from lazy devs wanting to level scale the entire game to avoid proper balancing and world design) that promotes gamey and arbitrary choices rather than immersion and organic gameplay. Modding the game so that the unique items scale along with your character is an elegant solution that removes the conflict, while still being consistent with the game design of oblivion.
Better still would be a completely de-scaled world, and if you were brave and skilled enough to get endgame loot at low level then bravo. But “lol you did a quest that was supposed to give you an endgame weapon but you did it at level 7 and fucked your self over” is just retarded. Or shit like that spell from the mages guild that was literally uncastable if you did it at the wrong level. Lazy, lazy devs.

I prefer to roleplay and use what’s thematically appropriate for my character. Like last time I played Oblivion I had a crusader knight who wore the KotN set for the whole game for flavor. And I modded it so it couldn’t get past ebony quality, since I wouldn’t use d*edric gear. Sure there was better stuff I could’ve used, but I liked it and had fun.

What are these exactly?

It's a toss up between Morrowind and Oblivion for me, but I generally lean towards Oblivion. I probably have an equal amount of hours in both. Then there's Skyrim... I wanted to love Skyrim but I fucking despise it now. Garbage story. Garage "EVERYTHING IS FUCKING GREY" graphics. The only saving grace are mods, and Bethesda even tries fucking that up.
>>
>>4107139
yea its fine. you dont rly need it, and theres good generic amulets you can get too they dont look as cool tho that do the same thing

but theres def stuff i would intentionally avoid doing because i didnt want the shitty version. if youre using blades, you dont wanna get stuck with cuckfang all game instead of dawnfang/duskfang just because you wanted to do shivering isles early. lotta SI stuff is only rly good once youre pretty high level

at any rate if you have the mod, it dont matter
>>
>>4107236
>wanted to do shivering isles early
Isn't this an option thanks to level scaling?
>>
>>4107247
the game has some minimum level scaling caps but if you're an experienced player you can get umbra and/or abuse alchemy and go there right away

not recommended for your typical casual baby though
>>
>>4107247
of course. the loot scales too tho. so if you ever wanted to have a way shittier but much lighter version of dawnfang/duskfang, then thats exactly what youd wanna do. just go there ASAP and rush the SI MQ. youll probably actually find the actual questline itself is far easier.
the problem again is that the actual great loot, has higher caps than the base game. so if you wanted the best duskfang. its not like lvl 20, its more like lvl 30, which is way into lategame ime

OR you just mod it, so you can do it whenever tf
>>
>>4094293
Better than Morrowind
>>
>>4107429
Oblivion does the typical RPG thing where you keep finding better gear as you progress. A reason to keep plundering those ancient tombs. The difference is Oblivion's "gear progression" adapts to players' whims, to what order they complete the content in. It's a massive nonlinear game, so it makes sense.

A different approach some may prefer, would be Dark Souls, where you can start with a mace and finish the game with a mace, and the "gear progression" is done through upgrades.
>>
>>4107464
people don't like level scaling

i've used mods to destroy the level scaling in skyrimeme but never tried it in oblivion (honestly it's just due to less playtime on PC, this was xbox 360 game for me)

i think oblivion would be better if it had the morrowind "fuck you" vibe but probably less popular with the normans
>>
>>4107498
I could guess that you don't like level scaling just from the fact that you grinded all skills to 100
>>
I couldn't get past everyone looking like a downie
>>
>>4107464
i think that works for souls games only because the infusion/upgrade system has a lot of depth to it. and you still DO get new/better weapons with better movesets.

in oblivion, youre traveling around, finding new stuff, and ideally stuff thats better than and/or worth some gold to sell. thats like the core gameloop. you cant remove that. if you could take your tutorial rusty iron dagger all the way through to the end, itd be a much more boring game

>>4107498
i actually like the lvl scaling. it makes oblivion one of the only challenging TES games on default difficulty. the whole way through too. it doesnt get totally braindead ez, like most TES games do after their respective tipping points

my only issue with it similar to the aforementioned loot-scaling problems is how all lower tier enemies disappear completely once you hit like lvl 15 or so. it feels very artificial. youre traveling around, theres wolves everywhere, then suddenly you lvl up and wolves are extinct. purged from tamriel entirely. no wolves, only mt lions now. then those are quickly rendered extinct as well after a few more lvl ups, and replaced with bears.
i just find it makes encounter variety increasingly more stale as you level up

so i just mod it
its this one, the 12 lvls down version default is 8 lvls down
https://www.nexusmods.com/oblivion/mods/53600
doesnt actually make the game much easier in fact ime encounters often have more varying elements/attack types flying around, and are often slightly harder to defend against but it does mean that literally every oblivion gate wont just be xivilai, spiders, and storm atronachs from like lvl 20 on. youll still run into a flame/frost atronach, or a clannfear.
>>
>>4107558
uhh yeah it does become piss easy

once you master destruction and restoration you one shot everything and can't die if you craft the right spells

if you play as a non magic user though, the endgame is brutal

>100% agree . i played oblivion till my playstation 3 died
based fellow person who also got oblivion on ps3 <3 I got it from my uncle on my bar mitzvah, including a large tv, the ps3 itself, and like 6-7 games. God I love my uncle.

It was the biggest birthday gift I've ever received and got nothing as big since then, save for a PC the next year or two. and then nothing since then :') good times though.

Based. The remaster is how I introduced my preteen daughter to one of the all-time comfort games. She sank a whole summer into it.

Watching her play made me appreciate how fuckin weird and imaginative kids can be — she RPed as this grimy, sewer-dwelling, rat-eating Argonian that had a personal beef with the Countess of Leyawiin (due to her anti-beast-race bigotry). She was also obsessed with Frenzy spells and the Skull of Corruption.

I remember how I could also throw myself so easily into a game like that at her age, and how Oblivion became so dear to me. God, I wish I could still have that kind of fun...

>>4107691
That sounds creative. Maybe she'll grow up to be a writer of great RPGs.

>What are these exactly?
The level scaling of quest rewards harms immersion and roleplaying because it’s gamey and arbitrary. It shifts what should be an in-character choice (“when should I do this quest? Am I strong enough? Is it someone in urgent need whom my character would rush to aid?”) towards out-of-character optimizing for mechanical rewards (“if I do this quest now the reward sucks but if I wait until level 21 it’ll magically be way better”). The games systems are now harming roleplaying rather than supporting and implementing it harmoniously. There’s no logical reason or in-world explanation for it either, it’s purely from the laziness of the devs.

Practically empty 100ft from the roads, little point in exploring since any structure outside the cities is part of a quest, mid story, and since it was voiced only the most committed people made quests.
>>
>>4107738
Maybe... I think the real value of RPGs (besides entertainment) is how it can get you to exercise empathy — a good trait for writers as well as for everyone. Then again, her old man's a writer so I wouldn't blame her for choosing another gig.

The story in Oblivon is better but the lore in Skyrim is better.
>>
>>4108624
it's the same lore...
>>
>>4108720
The new lore introduced in Skyrim was more interesting than the new lore introduced in Oblivion.
>>
>>4108727
I don't know what's new in lore, but Skyrim does have more culture and history on display, that is true. IIRC that was the goal of one of the devs. Shame I can't remember who it was right now.. To Oblivion's credit, there are some culture tidbits too that can be gathered by talking to NPCs.

This is exciting as fuck now all we're missing is enchanting as a skill but the only addition being the ability to have multiple enchantments in wearables and we'll have some real flexible builds again.

To be fair, it released just today and like i mentioned before, the modding scene for Oblivion is not causing as many waves so breakthroughs are quiet but great.

>>4108956
Im not a huge fan of gigantic overhauls or modpacks for any game really. They tend to both add certain features you probably dont like and hugely alter the game to the point you are playing something else which misses the point. Its better if you handpick all the mods yourself and have 100% tailored to your tastes experience.
>>
>>4108995
wasnt there already a spear mod?
maybe i hallucinated that

>enchanting as a skill but the only addition being the ability to have multiple enchantments in i posted a fun old mod earlier ITT that kinda does that
enchantment mastery. at the very least it gets you to that lategame morrowind crazy enchant feel which is extremely fun in oblivions physics engine lol

the thing i wanna see again is cast-on-use enchants. thats one thing that a warrior build in oblivion lacks, is a way to do some extra magic attacks/buffs/debuffs. ideally without investing into 2 stats they dont really care about. i always used to take enchant as a minor on my warriors in MW, just to have the extra options
>>
>>4111305
There is a mod that adds spear weapons but function as Swords and use the Blade skill. Now with these new stuff you can use said mod to to have them behave like spears and use the Spear skill. You can find what you need in the "True Spears" and "Spear Skill" mod pages.

>>4111334
I decided to look into link related and it seems to do about what i need and doesnt hugely alter the mechanic or make it insanely broken which is nice for a vanilla+fag like myself, you should check it out.

You're forced onto a desert island with your choice of either TES4: Oblivion, or An Elder Scrolls Adventure: Redguard.
Which do you take?
