Not the fortress mode. In adventure, I am playing as a man grappling down people and snapping their necks, or merely decapitaring them. I stroll through villages, I make the villagers do as I please. This is a real game, where one is not restricted by the false morals of this weak world. But one is allowed to express. I love entering the goblin pits, and taking them all on, they cannot withstand me as I disembowel them, gran their guts, and squeeze them until they fucking vomit. War is bloody, and this game lets you enjoy chopping off feet, hands, as your foe begs for mercy. Deliver it not. Weakness is NOT a fucking virtue, I never spare my foes. I love seeing my enemies collapse from the pain. Do you like playing Dwarf Fortress Adventure.

You think you're edgy but you're no Obok Meatgod.

>learning curve
>can nullify the entire game with a drawbridge

It just has a shit ui, optimization and simulationist slop. Rimworld, Minecraft, etc they all did it better. I wonder if toadyone looks at notch and considers he could have been a billionaire if he wasn’t a lazy NEET.

Stick men being crucified
Stick men being hanged
Stick men being impaled
Stick men being bulldozed into a mass grave!!!
Find... your "fun".....

At a certain point, your total time spent playing goes down?

lol df would never ever have the mainstream appeal of minecraft

what does "learning curve" mean
it looks like playing starcraft is way quicker to master than halo
and everyone starts out halfway decent at dwarf fortress

I mean it's mapping required skill rather than attained skill (you need to know some things to even start playing Halo, I'm guessing they're thinking of first person camera controlls and some fundamentals of shooters). However it for some reason still maps that against time spent playing. You could be sitting RPing in a corner of the Goldshire Inn in WoW and that would somehow become more difficult the longer you did it.
Better would be if you mapped it against progress made or something, but even that is janky and makes assumptions that don't really hold up to scrutiny.

Dwarf Fortress is also complete bullshit on this, obviously.

I want to like adventure mode, but I always get bored after getting best in slot gear and lagging my way through annihilating a goblin pit or something

OK here's how you do it. The ultimate adventurer. You practice wrestling on some harmless critter over and over again. Also grab as many rocks as you can and throw them. This pumps up your extremely vital wrestling and throwing skills. You will need combat skills and wrestling is insanely powerful. Once these skills are maxxed out can start adventuring. My advice is to head straight for the nearest city with a castle, then go into the castle and start rooting around for good quality equipment. Steal it and take off with it. Don't bother buying from shops. Take the artifact grade stuff you can find in the castle. Gear up and directly head down into the sewer / dungeon under the castle, there's always a way down from the castle into the sewer or dungeon.

At this point, even though you think "Oh it's probably fine everybody's listening to a song upstairs" nope, you're in a DUNGEON and you will probably be attacked by different baddies including possibly the undead, and bandits or robbers. Kill 'em all to gain experience with your new found weapons after crippling them by throwing rocks and wrestling. They usually have good loot. Keep doing this a while until you're really good at combat, you will need it for the next thing you're going to do which is kill monsters to increase your fame. Take some missions and go kill some monsters, and keep doing this for a while. Always bring along some companions who are archers too. They are good meat to distract baddies and tend to do much better in combat than melee fighters against tougher foes.

After you've gained some fame, perhaps visited your forts, etc. it's time for the next part of the ultimate adventurer build.

You had to have generated your world with some necromancer's towers in it for this ultimate adventurer build to stick. Sometimes they won't gen and you have to try again. I like to have a world with a few of them in there. Increasing the 'evil' lands helps with this during worldgen.

Now you're going to take your adventurer and seek out a wizard's tower. I recommend getting rid of any companions at this point. If you've never confronted a necromancer before, you will find out why if you fail to do this. They live in towers full of the undead, usually with many books as well as other things. You want to travel right up to and into the necromancer's tower. Very rarely, you can walk right in, say "Hello" to the necromancer(s), and just start perusing the library. Usually there will be combat, and they attack on sight. You will have to be very very careful at this stage, I usually run away and string out the necromancer(s) and any undead minions behind me. If there is more than one, any of the ones which die will be raised as undead as will any body parts you lopped off so you have to be careful. Once you have conquered any baddies, if you are challenged at all, it's time to look through the library for the book of the Secrets of Life and Death. Once you read it, you become a necromancer yourself and anything that dies in your sight can be raised as a minion which will follow you until it is killed and attack the closest being on sight including your own companions and the real fun begins.

Eventually when you get good enough at throwing you can just carry coins and throw those. You can easily blind and cripple that way.

Another quick way to gain stats is to just swim. It's boring as hell but swimming from one continent to another is usually pretty safe once you have good wrestling, and by the time you finish a few laps you're as strong as possible with great speed too.

Have they reimplemented camp building yet? I want to like adventure, but I feel like there isn't anything to do beyond wrestle megabeasts and raid vaults.

It's great. If you've become a necromancer and you don't want your horde of the undead to bother the living, swimming is a great way to get rid of all the animated corpses and gibs following you around. It's cute to see an eyeball roll slowly along following you though.

Becoming a vampire is also nice, if you become a vampire before becoming a necromancer it's a good combo.

My favorite gorey interactive novel. If you've the imagination and patience, you can get some really high highs and only mediocre lows. Ideally, almost every fight is a unique puzzle and as your character gets stronger and faster, you start to control every combat encounter. Look for more exciting fights and you'll get your shit rocked by mythical creatures like dragons and werebeasts or forgotten beasts and angels with their procedurally generated bodies and abilities.
