>>4106177If you're not grindan your brains out chances are good your generics are like 40 levels behind when you start getting the good uniques in chapter 4
>>4106177That's kind of my point. FFT gives you so many crazy powerful generics that your entire party is cooked by Chapter 4, especially given that dying is fucking hard in FFT so you likely are not losing people. Tactic Ogre gives you so many more unique characters, but none of them are substantially better than a character you can make yourself and dead of generics is a lot more likely in TO because castle archer splat + permadeath.
>ruins your save file
an underrated reason to whine about FFT PSP is that Balthier is as strong as Cid is
>>4106246Sorry about my>auto-potion skill>high level summoner magic>double-hitting monk>just running away and yelling a bunchI can go on anon, I beat him up for fun. Get back to me when you steal all the Genji equipment. That's a real horror show.
Childhood is using Cid because he’s OPAdulthood is not using Cid because he’s OP>>4106246He’s a hard check on your save hygiene. I think it depends on if you were a PC gamer or a console gamer first and foremost.>just running away and yelling a bunch>steal all the Genji equipmentOh yeah that’s the stuff
>>4106299>He’s a hard check on your save hygieneThats really it. He isnt an unclimbable mountain, but if you are rocking a party that just did fair in the previous fight, then he's gonna rock your world. And if you saved over your last map save, youre fucked.
>>4106177it's not like you have to drop someone to make room for him, the game gives you an extra deployment slot in later battlesI used: melee (punch ninja) ramza, melee generic, magic (summoner) generic, magic generic, then added agrias, then added cid
I always make my Ramza a monk with equip heavy armor and I have never had trouble with any of the duels or bosses.
>>4106326I prefer dual wield samurai. Its just cool as fuck.
>>4106320Agrias is okay as she is equal to Ramza in power until he gets Chapter 4 skills. The real issue is that Cid is much more powerful and comes with real end-game equipment. He really should have been a special character with locked equipment who leaves you late in Chapter 4.
>>4106320>the game gives you an extra deployment slot in later battlesabsolute heresy
FFT is a retard game.
>>4106237Semi uniques and uniques have much better stats, up to 30 points or more. Story battle generics are stronger than shop generics, too.
The rarity of these game is allowing you to customize your generic units so much. You can change even the name and sprite. Why would I ever use the units made by the game when I can create my own?
>>4106237>Tactic Ogreif you mean LUCT then yes.if you meant the GBA prequel: Knight of Lodis, then no. quite a few uniques you can cheese the game with, but the game is already easier than LUCT.
>>4106198If you aren't grinding you won't be level 40 when you get Cid>>4106404>comes with real end-game equipmentYou can always just give Excalibur to someone else. Obviously it's ridiculously powerful using it on Cid but it always cracks me up how many people seem to credit half of Cid's power as coming equipped with Excalibur.>>4106618Because the special characters have unique abilities that generics cannot learn.
>>4106237they must have changed something in the latest version of TO since I remember canopus being like cid except he can fly and he joins at the beginning of the game
>>4106683It's the thing where if you rescue Boco and keep throwing away her babies trying to farm red chocobos the eggs can get much higher level than the rest of your squad. They seem to scale to the current chapter or maybe the map they hatch on. So even if you've been speedrunning with a team of massively underlevelled mages your chocobo breeding program will spawn high level chocs, and new characters will automatically come in at their level since they're the highest on the whole squad.
>>4106705You can recruit hawk men at the beginning of the game in any town and they are roughly 10-15% worse than Canopus. You can also recruit gremlins in the early Chapter 1 battle against the summoner and they are about 10% worse, but sometimes a bit better due to specials. Same with Chapter 1 faeries. As a main story guy, I'm okay with him being a little bit better than generics.
>>4106705>He never played a party with a backrow of Canopus, Hawkman, Faerie, Hawkman, Gremlin. You know you can get on the enemy castle and cheese every battle with this setup but it takes like 10 minutes to get at the start of the game.
>>4106809>if you rescue Boco and keep throwing away her babiesStopped reading here
>>4106867>>4106871I used canopus and two generic hawkmen. The generic hawkmen were on par with my flashy unique characters, trading other stats for mobility, while canopus was super strong and tanky and fast and mobile
>>4106586In the OG, you'd probably eventually filter down to a party of uniques/semi uniques with maybe 1 or 2 utility generics. In PSP, you're encouraged to minimize the amount of classes you use and stick with a core team to minimize grinding and maximize SP. Uniques are generally stronger, especially the low RT ones but its whatever.PSP OV is similar, just remove the class minimization quirk.Reborn is weird. You're encouraged to spam training in the classes with "good" growths (Warrior, Swordmaster, Rune Fencer, Siren, Vartan, etc) for generics and uniques are pretty much always better off just waiting until when their special class unlocks and you grind training for them to catch up and immediately bench your main game units. You could raise people in whatever you want, but MP is the only stat you cant cheese with charms, so it does matter to an extent.
>>4106705>cid of TOFor me it's Hobyrim.
>>4106926what else can you do, they'll clog up the reserve in half a chapter otherwise
>>4107588>her
>>4107593it was a joke because it generates eggs
>>4107598Tbh if you told me the remaster changed Boco’s sex I would’ve believed you
Mustadio is breeding that Boco bussy and getting him butt preggers
>>4107575Based Petrification Man
>>4107654>>4107575you can train your own swordmaster too. just can't hire them early like with archers, ninjas and birdmen.
>>4107571>Reborn is weird. You're encouraged to spam training in the classes with "good" growthsGrowths do not matter. Hell, base stats don't really matter. I don't know how such stupid advice is still so prevalent today.
>>4107690This is now a tactic ogre protip zone: Some of the most powerful characters in the game are generics who you recruit at level high levels because they have 35+ levels of min-max stats without 6~ levels of soldier. Lich and Swordmaster are two notables since they depend on max stats (Int and Dex.) HOWEVER, some spells like the summons require Dex to hit so Liches are generally better with spells that do not have a miss chance. Your swordsmens should always be Earth type, as should your MC and Hayboryn for petrification and going against the Wind Gods, which can be achieved through the opening questions via an Excel chart. Liches should be water type for healing rain.Real Pro Tip Mode: Do not ever get about +255 from cards in a single stat, this includes HP. Your card stats will roll over as they are a hidden value that can only go to 255. I learned this in a game where I card farmed my MC all game and then had him lose 255 HP towards the end of the game.
>>4106304I never had a problem with him but I did do the autist grind on the first few maps to get dual-wield Ramza right at the beginning of the game every time I played. Felt great to take on everything nearly solo most of the game.On other playthroughs I didn't do that as much and I saw how he could be a bit difficult but still... never that bad.
>>4107766I literally said in the same fucking post that you can just grind charms and max out every stat except MP, so ultimately it doesnt matter. And even with MP, it only matters in select instances like if you just so happen to get just enough MP that the 10% HP/MP + natural regen is enough for you to use a specific skill on the next phase. Its ultimately irrelevant outside of cursed weapon autism because no one is going to waste tons of seals on a unit that you're going to sack.Read the entire post before commenting like a dipshit next time
>>4108064Why would I read an entire post when you out yourself as a moron? Also grinding charms is even worse than leveling as specific classes so good job doubling down on your stupidity.
>>4106246I had a bigger problem with the assassins on the rooftop my second playthrough. I tried playing the game normally with no random encounters or grinding, butchered Wiegraf just fine, but the assassins are literally so much faster than me they'll kill Rafa before I even get a turn.
>>4108757That fight is pure RNG on the part of Rafa’s AI. You have to reload until she doesn’t commit suicide. It’s possible to lose before you can do anything.
>>4108783Unless you set up a bait unit with less hp for them to target.
>>4108757years ago I started using mediators to recruit one or two of the male ninjas that show up with Rafa and Malak in their first encounter, not specifically for the roof fight but just because it's such a pain to get a ninja any other way, so I guess my perception of it is distorted
Growths matter in the old system because you wanted to get into the good classes faster, not miss summons/status magic and unlock increased spell aoe at earlier levels.People will tell you not to raise too many classes at the same time in PSP because you're "losing stats" but no one is ever going to raise so many classes at once that it actually becomes noticeable and by that point, you'd already have super gear. Its just less tedious to focus on the obviously good classes instead because of the dumb exp formula. I know One Vision took it out but that's its own kettle of fish.Agi/Avo are useless in Reborn unless you have like +300 or some retarded number on the enemy so who cares. Str/Dex? Its like 4 points for autisming over Berserker vs Swordmaster or some shit. You get more than enough charms just from playing, especially when some dungeons require multiple visits. Reborn is riddled with a ton of weird damage quirks that also muddy the water as well.If you care about minmaxing then yeah, the other guy made some valid points but as far as clearing the majority of the content goes, just keep the martials in martial classes and the casters in caster classes (like the old days). It really doesnt matter that much.
>>4106177yeah it's pretty lame how ez mode he makes the game, but you don't have to use him. I never do. All the unique characters is probably one of the worst aspects of the game (as cool as it may be). You spend a lot of time playing with your party and then they give you all these new characters with unique abilities. Ruins the balance of the game.
Thinking of a new gimmick party:Ramza: Knight/White magicFour generics:Archer/Basic skillThief/SingWhite mage/martial artsBlack mage/time magic
>>4108894Gotta list the passive skills and general roles to get a better feeling.
>>4108894>White mage/martial arts
>>4108894ramza and the black mage will do all the work while everyone else farts around trying not to die
>>4108894>Knight/White magicC-tier, until knight swords, then B-tier>Archer/Basic skillD-tier>Thief/SingD-tier plus having to grind Bard in Chapter 1>White mage/martial artsB-tier, never run out of mana, A-tier when you get Holy>Black mage/time magicS-tier, can probably solo the gameGame will be hard mode, but it isn't a hard game.
>>4108903I'm basically trying to recreate a simple DnD party: paladin, ranger, bard-moonlighting-as-thief, cleric, wizard.Paladin and wizard are straightforward and obviousArcher-as-ranger will be somewhat close to the flavor, and it'll be interesting to see if a more-or-less played straight archer can handle the late gameCleric and bard/thief are the hardest. At first I was thinking of throwing equip armor/shield to make white mage less squishy, or maybe tossing white magic onto something like squire and equipping a flail and shield, but didn't really sound that plausibleThief/bard is a tough one too. I'm imagining a dextrous dodgy fencer type agile fighter. Bard kinda sucks so thief with sing as secondary seems obvious. Debating either knife + shield, or dual wield and including one or even two main gauches + parry.I'm also trying to stick to relatively grounded and thematic skills, and not just cobbling together OP shit. Here's what I have so far:>knight, white magic, parry, concentration (perhaps attack boost?), move +3>archer, basic skill (basically just for accumulate), speed surge, concentration, ignore height (haha high ground go brrrrr)>thief, sing, parry, dual wield (or equip shield?), move +3>white mage, martial arts (really only for stigma magic + chakra. I don't want to double down on time magic and don't like to use summons), absorb MP (dunno what else to take), magic boost (maybe short charge?), move +2>black mage, time magic, absorb MP (dunno what else to take), magic boost (maybe short charge?), move +2
>>4108805>>4108783The thing was, I knew the fight was coming, but I completely underestimated just how fast the assassins were. Eventually I did get lucky with turn order when using a faster class and manage to finish the fight, but it was pretty awful.
>>4109189If you have to rely on luck you're doing it wrong. The roof fight is actually one of the easiest in the game.
>>4109302>If you have to rely on luck you're doing it wrong. The roof fight is actually one of the easiest in the game. It's literally RNG. Rafa's AI will sometimes move such that she dies and you get a game over before any of your party members gets a single move.
>>4109122I see. My 2 cents even if you're not focused on optimal stuff.- Parry is sadly kind of a waste, thematically for Paladin I would go either shield or doublehand. High faith can be a detriment for defense but there are reflect armors for specific fight so it's not horrible. Low MP would make me consider Move Gain MP/Manafont. Damage split/Soulbind is good on high HP units.- Archer is definitely subpar. You can make it work if you go all in on speed like you do. Basic skill is also fine to ruin stats but is based on PA. - Thief/Bard is ok. Daggers definitely need something like dual-wield and even then it's just ok damage. Reflexes + Cloak would be my choice for evasion since main gauches + parry only counts one weapon. Could consider Mediator skills instead of sing to be able to do stuff in the middle of enemies. Sing also disables all evasion so you have 2 conflicting plans.- Cleric overlaps a bit with Paladin as far as FFT is concerned. Ramza's squire job could make a great fit for it since it gets flails + shield already. White magic at this point makes the Paladin's skills overlap with the rest of the units (Archer's Basic skill). Again, manafont takes care of MP. Consider Half MP if you are spamming Holy.- Wizard is easy yeah. I don't like absorb MP and would consider Counter Flood/Nature's Wrath.
>>4109442>Didn't buy sprint shoes>Doesn't pay attention to the speed ratings on different classesAll you need to do is get one enemy into critical.
>>4109442You can position your units in such a way that the enemies will always go for them first. You can literally win without doing anything in the fight itself.
>>4109189I don't think there's any RNG with speed. I know you could do stuff like have calculators with 5 or 10 speed use "CT divided by 5" to always hit everyone in the battle, since every enemy is going to have a CT evenly divisible by 5 (because a number of ticks evenly divisible by 10 has occurred for a speed 10 unit to get a turn)
>>4109862He's low IQ anon, its not gonna work
>>4109442>It's literally RNGThere's some RNG, but the AI in FFT is somewhat sophisticated and will behave conditionally based on where the other units are and what their stats are. It's not completely random and isn't hard to manipulate.
>>4111461>There's some RNG, but the AI in FFT is somewhat sophisticated and will behave conditionally based on where the other units are and what their stats are. It's not completely random and isn't hard to manipulate."Pure RNG" was an exaggeration on my part. I should have more accurately said "partly RNG". In my experience, the AI behaves in a partly-random fashion, in that you can provide the same input (put the exact same characters in the exact same deployment squares), and it will produce different choices as output. Sometimes Rafa would commit suicide and get me a game over before I had a chance to move any of my characters. I'd then reload and redo the battle without changing anything, and she'd move to safety and I'd butcher the enemies on my turn and move on.
>>4112803It doesn't matter where Rafa moves dude.
>>4109632>main gauches + parry only counts one weaponIs this true? I was under the impression the weapon evasion stacked multiplicatively.>Sing also disables all evasion so you have 2 conflicting plans.Bummer, think that basically kills the bard idea for me. Didn’t realize they were perma-charging.I restarted, kept Ramza his squire class w/ white magic, slot 2 is a plain ol’ pure knight I’m gonna throw two-hands on, slot 3 is archer with steal secondary.Might look at swapping parry for “counter” but it could be good for something with juicy weapon evasion like the defender knight sword.
>>4113121>Is this true? I was under the impression the weapon evasion stacked multiplicatively.Hmm you might actually be right about that. It just counts it as it would a shield. You learn something new everyday.Hit% = [(100%)Ă—(100-Physical Class Evasion)Ă—(100-Shield Physical Evasion)Ă—(100- Accessory Physical Evasion)Ă—(100-Weapon Evasion) / (10^P)]Seems like the game can chain 2 Weapon Evasions instances.
>>4106304If you fucked up and saved, just use the system to beat him, since the system is retarded.Choose dragoon. Doesn't matter if you never invested in it. Always turn your back to him. He's gonna go to a square to hit your back so you always know where to land with the jump command. Rinse and repeat without losing a single health point.
