Recently acquired my grandma's PS1 games (she's alright don't worry), so my collection has tripled in sizeSome of these I'm familiar with but most I'm not.Any recommendations on where to start? Or do I just boot up Alundra and work my way down?
Based granny
>>4106274>people are inheriting their grandparent's PS1 collections>not Magnavox Odyssey, not NES... PlaystationWhere the fuck does the time go
>>4106283If it makes you feels worse my PS2 collection doubled in size for the same reason, no picture because I don't have them displayed all nicely yetBut I do also have these computer games I have no means of playing now
>>4106291>You Don’t Know JackBlast from the past
>>4106274Damn, your granny had good taste. Pick a game with a cool cover and see where it takes you
>>4106274>Breath of Fire 3>Final Fantasy Origins/Anthology/FF7/FF8>Legend of Dragoon>Brave Fencer Musashi (lol)>Vagrant StoryI can vouch for these ones
>>4106274>the girl who used to post on GameFAQs RPG boards is already a grandma with an 18+ granddaughtertime flies...
>>4106274Nice collection, you must have a cool grandma. You can't go wrong starting with the Square games, assuming you haven't played them. Highly recommend Alundra and the Lunar games.Honestly, most of that stuff is great, just pick whatever looks cool and have at it.
>>4106274Star Ocean: Second Story is a good one. Also, look up Valkyrie Profile on the secondary market, if you can find a copy. The Enix games (pre-Square) were peak.
>>4106274I remember liking Lunar Silver Star Story, a bit by the numbers but goodHeard good things about Wild Arms too
>>4106274start with saga frontierthen move onto threads of fatethen finish with xenogearsif you still want more after that, then give king's field 2 a spin i guess, but it's guaranteed to filter you because it's 3 games into the series so you'll be clueless on what's going ongrandma couldn't get armored core? or tobal? or diablo? or king's field 1 (2)? or saga frontier 2? surprised she doesn't have beyond the beyond given how all the rest of the games there are pure shit tier just like beyond the beyond
>>4106274Similar to my PS1 collection. Your grandma was a trve gamer.
>>4106274If your grandma is all right, can she pick a game and you play it together? Be a nice way to thank her for giving you that collection
>>4106274Is that regular Legend of Dragoon and not the greatest hits edition?
>>4106291>Spellcaster 101 Sorcerors Get all the Girls>Has Nice and naughty mode>no explicit scenesdam. Any modern H equivalents (vanilla)?
>>4106274Gran gran got impeccable jrpg tasteYou should play them in this orderGrandiaGrandia IIBreath of Fire IIISuikodenSuikoden IIVagrant StoryStar Ocean IIXenogears (throw away disc II)The rest of the games are good, but they don't respect your time as much as the above games. Honorable mentions to Wild Arms, Lunar, and the FF games but each one is a 100+ hour commitment with so-so payoff.
>>4106274There's no that these were someone's grandma's this is a real ps1 collector it has like every jrpg you could want
I forgot Legend of Legaia had that fake 2 disc box. Fucking carnies.
>Aquanaut's holiday>King's fieldthis is not someone's fucking grandma's jej
>>4107485>Vagrant StoryWhy do people like this game so much? I've seen gameplay before and isn't it kind of like shitty dark souls?
>>4106283If you die young, your parents keep your stuff.
>>4108483Why do people like Thief so much? I've seen gameplay before and isn't it kind of like shitty Dishonored?
>>4108497NTADishonored is like a shitty Prey imo (I am aware this is illustrating your point)I'd consider Thief more its own thing, in the same way I wouldn't consider Vagrant Story and Dark Souls similar
>>4108497I know nothing of the game but a few small snippets of gameplay I've seen. I am genuinely asking why is that game on so many lists when it seems like some kind of slow action rpg? Story? Graphics?
>>4108521It was bundled with a demo disc of other games, as was the fashion at the time
Shamelessly bumping my own thread with the SNES games I got from her a few years back, stacked in funny manner so you might see them better.I've put at least a little bit of time into almost all of theseConspicuous by it's absence is Earthbound, which I know she had, but I'm guessing my cousins nabbed it before I did years back>>4107552>>4107633>>4106775Nope, most of that is really hersShe tapped out of consoles with PS3/360 and mostly plays RPGMaker slop on Steam on her laptop now>>4107618I'm okay with Legend of Legaia doing it, but it feels kind of weird to me that Suikoden II didn't also do it. But those and DW7 were the ones I put a lot of time into as a kid>>4107303Regular>>4106340>>4107485Thanks anons
>>4110589>Uncharted Waters>Shadowrun>Inindo: Way of the Ninja>7th SagaTell gran gran to post here, she would fit right in
>>4110705>Tell gran gran to post hereTo put it succinctly; she don't do multiplayerI remember a bunch of years back me and her very own sister tried to get her to play WoW, which the two of us already played. But soon enough grandma nope'd out. She doesn't like being around other people online.
>>4110709>She doesn't like being around other people online.I kneel, she is truly the queen of /vrpg/
>>4110709
Maybe look them up online and see what catches your eye the most in terms of gameplay, setting, and possibly story from what you glean from online sources. Personally from all of those RPGs my favorite one is SaGa Frontier, but if you don't play many RPGs or haven't played any from that picture then might as well play Final Fantasy VII. Games that aren't RPGs that might be interesting, I suggest Legacy of Kain: Blood Omen. It's an action adventure game in the vein of top down Zelda games, and has a comprehensive story with fantastic voice acting. Heart of Darkness and Tomb Raider II will give you a bit more resistance than the other games on the list while you grapple with their control schemes and the challenges the game expects from you. Thankfully with Heart of Darkness checkpoints are fairly frequent and in Tomb Raider II you can save anywhere.
>>4110589>>4110709>tapped out of consoles with PS3/360>She doesn't like being around other people online.I can only pray to be so awesome when I'm old. World's number one most based grandma. Does she have any recs for RPGMaker slop?Anyway, I still think you two should play a game together. She probably wants to talk to you more, anon-kun
>>4106274you must be 18 or older to post here
>>4106274Was this really your grandma's originally or one of you aunt/uncle's? Whoever bought these had great taste.
>>4106374Interesting how Enix and square were the best and both managed to go downhill after merging. Ceos really need to hire consumer advisor with good taste and quit fucking around.
>>4114706Rare occurrence for that a woman of that gen. Even more for that genre line up. Maybe she was a bookworm type and one or more were left with her and she got hooked. That or OP is running a psychological experiment on us. >.>
>>4106291If you're in the states you can buy an old pc or laptop for like 20-50 bucks. Any pc without a cd rom just buy a USB external thats compatible. For another 20-25.
Last chunk of the collection I feel the need to report on, not much to see in the Gamecube/Wii/PS3/360 bunchUnless someone asksShame about the missing .hack//GU vol 3, and Atelier Iris 1 and Xenosaga II are odd exclusions>>4114549I'm 30 something, grandma is 80 something now>>4114721She is/was way big into her sword and sorcery novels>>4114724Yeah a USB floppy drive and then futzing with DOSbox or whichever is an optionBut I think for the most part gog probably has me covered
>Star Ocean IIIPlease ask gran gran if this is the game that made her stop buying new console JRPGs. I bet it is since it is one of the last released games in her collection and it is probably the worst JRPG ever made.
>>4106274You honestly cannot go wrong with like 90% of the games you got from her, and that's across pretty much every generation of games in these photos. Special fucking mention to those two TSR Gold Box OC games, as those are fantastic.Your grandma's tastes remind me a lot of my mother's tastes in games. She was a voracious reader and would devour nearly any book she could get her hands on. I was out in the living room playing FFVI out on our projection TV one day and she was enraptured when she realized it was a "story game," as she put it. That kickstarted an RPG obsession that got so bad that we had to buy multiple SNES and PS1 consoles. I managed to get her a PS2 as well when I got mine back at launch because I knew she would want to play any future RPGs and I wasn't living at home at that point. I also picked up a fat PS3 that had been refurbished to eliminate the Yellow Light a number of years later so she could replace the PS2.Going through her things after she died six years ago was one hell of a nostalgia trip. Since our collections were so damned similar, I only added a few titles from hers to mine and boxed up the rest for my kids to have when they get a few years older. You'd better treasure the everliving fuck out of your grandma, anon.
>>4115639If you have a PS4 you should get Odin Sphere Leifthrasir and show her how much better it is than the original
>>4106274>grandma's PS1 games
>>4115645You're nuts Star Ocean 3 is great
>>4115827Let’s generously assume OP is 18 and was born in 2008And his mother had him at age 18, so born in 1990PSX came out in 1994 when gram gram was 22, and is now 54Feel old yet?
>>4115832you have to be over 18 to post here
>>4115925No one under 18 has played Star Ocean 3
>>4106274>Grandma's>MfwI actually left most of these games at my parents house You got Arc the Lad and Lunar? Woah Buddy! Count yourself lucky, you are in for a treat.I would honestly start from >Lunar 1+2>Arc the LadPLAY WITH A GUIDE! There is a ton of missable shit and it's three parts, there some points where are points of no return and you can get fucked.Well you should be playing most of these with a guide because they were really trying to sell them back then.>Then star ocean>THEN DQ7>THEN ff anthology>Then FF7>FF8>then Xenogears>ff chronicles>Chrono Cross>FF9>BOF3>BOF4That's just for starters. It's going to take you along time to get through all of that.
>>4106340>Legend of DragoonFuck no, no one needs to play that shit again.>>4115845You white folks reproduce to quickly.>Me 39>Mom 70>Grandmother died ten years ago at 92

>>4116080>Disc loading times>For an SNES gameWew lad
>>4115639i thought you were serious until this post you're just lying about inheriting shit to show off your collection
>>4116083well he needs to learn out ff, you can't dive into the deep end, you need to get started early.
>>4116083>>4116078Wait a second, I actually played it on the PS2, were the load time longer if it was on the PS1?
>>4116099hohohoho, he doesn't know just how bad things were on the psx with 2MB of ramhttps://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Ptv4fD2gF0I
