Did the dungeon crawler genre regress or something after Shining the Holy Ark? I've been watching its playthroughs, and honestly Etrian Odyssey and NIS' Labyrinth series feel like a half-assed budget title. The OST was by Motoi Sakuraba too.
More like it died. There was an attempt at remaking Wizardry to sell some nostalgia but it was done by woke retards so it looks like stardew valley. You can find two touhou drpgs that came out somewhat recently. One is very in depth and the other is a pixellated SMT clone. Some people might try to bring up the later wizardry titles, but the 3d games aren't really grid based turn based blobbers like the older games. They aren't actually drpgs. Did the genre regress after shining holy ark? No, it definitely got better stories with Strange Journey. Most of the psp titles are pretty by the numbers though. There's also a fully 3d wizardry game with animated battle scenes that came out 2 years ago. Music is by the guy who did FF12 also. But you know, it's a gacha. Japs don't make real games anymore.
