Because it was made in an engine from that era and it took more than a decade to finish.
It's also from an era when depressing shit wasn't what you'd see in the news so it's just fantasical.
It's post-apocalyptic and it has environmental storytelling than cutscenes, and the devs stuck with it rather than copy and/or borrow ideas from other popular games.
It's also amazing that a vast world full of different factions with persevering mechanics + the lack of loading screens exist.
People were probably losing it over how ambitious the idea of this game was. It's kinda like No Man's Sky, except you're stuck in what looks like, one continent.

Here's where you're wrong: Aside from the technical/technological limitations at the time, people look at it and think of surviving, even thriving, and possibly conquering it! Yes, despite how horrendous it looks. Because we're not weak like you.
I look at a game like Kenshi that's got slavery and don't think of changing it because people like you exist, I think of running from the slavers, getting stronger, and then coming back to beat TF out of them, to give them justice.

Now I'm not sure if you're just here to fake it or what, just to give zoomers a bad name? Hopefully, you at least learn something from reading the answers here.

So OP probably didn't play it at all, anyone can look up screenshots and just guess what a game islike but if they haven't tried to go to any of the other biomes/areas at all, he just wasted everyone's time with their "critique" (including his own time). I mean for all we know, OP's not replying anymore because they're too embarrassed after being too bored and finally trying the game for himself, he just learned how much of an ass he was for talking shit.
And don't get me wrong, the game's not perfect. A lot of things could be improved. But at least talk about a 3-hour gameplay video you watched or something, and not base your entire conclusion on just one screenshot.
