I have played several games where you have a "base" that you care for and upgrade along your journey. Castle Town is one of the weakest among them. You visit just ONCE (sometimes even zero times) per chapter, and you have to do all interactions all at once, because once you leave, that's it, interactions are permanently missable.Even Chapter 5's "cafe" works better as a base than Castle Town. You can see it populating in real time and can return and continue interactions at any time, you're not forced to sit thought it all at once.

I do believe in the Girl swap but in a higher level. Deltarune is Gaster's romhack of the true original game. Kris was the original cage and Gaster wanted to replace Kris entirely with a player vessel but Kris said "no way fag". Noelle was the girl in the original story but she was literally patched out of her role and turned into an NPC, instead Susie was added. Susie's an external element in the story of the game in a meta level which is why she's a newcomer in the town and has connections to no one, and we don't see her parents, etc. She wasn't supposed to be here, Susie is literally Gaster's donut steel he made to be the new girl (because she was transported from Undertale. She's the Suzy you never got to saw because Clam Goner spells out she was removed from Undertale and transplanted into Deltarune). After defeating Pokey and Giygas in the Cave of the Past, Ness and friends don't go back to their original timeline. They go to an altered timeline where things are completely different for the better, such as Jeff's parents not being divorced and Ness' father being successful. They seem to take this rather well despite the fact that they're completely foreign to this universe. Ness' family isn't the same one as the one he grew up with. Hell Pokey is Ness' brother in this timeline and is nice. Everyone around Ness and friends are different with completely different memoriesThe Halloween Hack had the idea of what if the kids didn't come back to the same timeline that they left from, and that Dr. Andonuts gets filled with grief thinking that they died in trying to save the world. In the book, they never do go back to that original timeline. Now the book implies there is no original timeline anymore, time was just rewritten, but it's still really disturbing.

But when it comes to Chapter 5, it doesn't call back to the information established in previous chapters at all. You'd expect Susie to be in survival mode after seeing the final prophecy, but that information isn't activated at all, it's like she never saw the final prophecy in the first place, and this is bad because it makes Chapter 5 fit jarringly with the rest of the story, what's the point of making a 10 hour long Chapter that breaks from the pattern Toby established of old information being recolored and brought up again in the next chapters? What's the point of removing this incredible aspect of the story where everything that happens creates a chain of events that organically affect the next Chapter? Unless Chapter 6 completely reframes the events of Chapter 5, I don't see how Toby will recover from this. If anything, I think he'll just pull the ol' "Play emotional music and tell a sad story" after 10 years of narrative buildup.
