The greatest CRPG ever made
>>4114092I didn't know there were PC98 ports of Ultima games. And they didn't even redo the boxart in anime style?
>>4114092Greatest ripoff theme of all timehttps://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6RPkakVp2vk
I doubt it
>>4114092Too old to be the greatest lol, have you actually played it? the game is basically a sheet with a picture and some text, if this is what you consider the greatest then you should quit gaming.
>>4114092The greatest cRPG ever made was Dragon Age: VeilguardIt was divine punishment for the subhuman scumfuck insects that think about cRPGs after 2001. The hobby peaked on September 21st, 2000. That was 26 years ago. You should accept it’s dead, and go find a wife and have kids.
>>4114092Its the best ultima game at least
>>4114477>have you actually played itHave you? Because everything you said is retarded and not the experience of actually playing this game at all.The world is still extremely deep and immersive. I get if you said this about maybe the first few but ever since Ultima IV it is not like that at all.
>>4114558You think it peaked with BG 2?
>>4114688>The world is still extremely deep and immersive>immersiveahahahahahahahaha lmao you actually believe this????? no way
>>4114786>>4114558As someone who has spent more than 3,500 hours playing BG2 and custom modding it (I have personally modified every single file in the game except for certain scripts and BAMs, first with the DLTCEP back in the day and then with Near Infinity as support moved), I can very confidently say that as good as BG2 was, Owlcat's games are better. They're just better.BG2 was the ultimate standard for many years. It just isn't anymore. And that's ok. Owlcat's games are bigger, longer and more complex. And at least the Pathfinder games tell more interesting stories, with more interesting companions, too.I'm never not going to love BG2. But that's what allows me to understand it as it truly is. It's still there. It's not going to just vanish or anything. It's just not the peak standard against which RPGs must be compared anymore. This is a success. Our species is improving. This is what it looks like, when our art improves.
>>4115065>Owlcat's games are bigger, longer and more complex.Yes.>And at least the Pathfinder games tell more interesting storiesEhhhh maybe but it’s a stretch>with more interesting companions, too.lol no
>>4114092Diablo 2 , original unwoke editions.and Divine Divinity.
>>4115060Why would I not? I'm not even an oldfag for context but a zoomer just going through a lot of RPGs from the era. I don't get why the world isn't immersive? You have full blown towns, simulation of wind physics, moon phases. In each town there's NPCs that are highly interactive, will sus you out and report you if you poke around too much, they have distinct personalities etc.Like even a lot of RPGs now are dumbed down compared to this? Not to mention how cool it is seeing the virtues get twisted and followed by people.
aint nobody playing this shit unc lmfao
>>4115095>>with more interesting companions, too.>lol nocompanions are equally bad in both.
>>4115118Immersive is an adjective that describes an experience, environment, or media that surrounds you completely, making you feel fully involved or part of what is happeningSensory Surroundings: It makes you feel like you are inside a different place by engaging multiple senses, like sight and soundAn immersive experience is a designed environment or activity that surrounds you with sights, sounds, and other sensory input so you feel like you are inside a different world rather than just watching itEngages multiple senses: Uses vision, spatial sound, touch, or even scent to make the moment feel real.Blurs boundaries: Removes the gap between you and the content, making you an active participant instead of a passive observer.Creates presence: Tricks your brain into feeling physically or emotionally present in a new place or time. How is this immersive?https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5pu5BuxBJrc
>>4115187>companions are equally bad in both.Absolutely not. Owlcat companions are universally insufferable and I can only bear to play their games with a custom party of mute generics. BG2 companions are, at least, tolerable.
>>4115225You are literally those people who can't imagine an apple. I won't engage with you any further after this post, but had you actually ever tried to play this game with the manual and playing it blind with the reading materials that came with the game (instead of being a guide following retard), perhaps you'd understand a fraction of what makes it so great.Stick to your slop. Being white is generally a prerequisite for enjoying goof RPGs.
>>4115640zoomers cant read or play slow games they actually literally cant, it hurts them, its incredible to witness, they can barely sit through movies anymore
>>4115640>bro if you research this entertainment product it gets like super good and what you call "immersive">now here's a list of the keybinds and->wait where you're going no no don't start that Doom application don't ypu know fun programs are for stupid normies???"Uh guys why don't neurotypical human beings keep our trash designs afloat?"T. Another soon to be bankrupted 90s RPG developer with severe autismOkay this joke was clumsy
>>4115228you have a high tolerance
>>4115228samefag >>4115849If it was possible to have the same in BG2 personally I would !this is like at least 30% of why I prefer Icewindale I & II to BG I & IIsurely you must agree that mink and his fucking space hamster are 200% more insurable than whatever faggot owlcats games are populated by
>>4114092Yep. I have spent my rpg playing life searching for something else like it and nothing ever is. Every once in a while some nu pixelated game comes along and gives me some glimmer of hope but never delivers. It seems like a U5 game would be pretty simple technically but I guess no devs want to go there.
>>4115855I am the first anon you quoted but not the second.>this is like at least 30% of why I prefer Icewindale I & II to BG I & IIYes, I, too, like full party creation.>surely you must agree that mink and his fucking space hamster are 200% more insurable than whatever faggot owlcats games are populated byI would absolutely not underwrite Minsc's life insurance, are you mad?
>>4115761true.>>4115826people who played DOOM also oldskool RPG back in the days. you were not there, zoomer.
>>4115866Spiderweb indie games. but the guy was inspired by U6, obviously. not U5.
>>4115761I'm the one who wrote that reply/started this thread and I am a zoomer myself.Stupid and unimaginative people are in every generation.
>>4115065This has to be the dumbest take I’ve ever read on this website. Every sentence is so tasteless and stupid, that the resulting post is a cognitohazard, more visually offensive than LiveLeak gore. Taking the greatest digital art piece of all time, implying you’re an expert because you’ve spent a lot of time looking at it and modding it (as if that matters over intellect, taste and knowledge of the genre), and declaring it inferior to a woke committee-designed “product” aimed at subhuman scumfuck gender-confused insects, because Baldur’s Gate 2 is not “complex enough” (as if complexity is something to be admired over highly intentional simplicity and authenticity).Reading your post caused me mental injury, and if the world was just, I should have been entitled to seek monetary compensation. I’m not coming back to /vrpg/ again, you’re all too stupid to talk to, I might as well try to have a serious discussion with homeless bums begging at street lights. Even women are smarter than you.
>>4116108i accept your apology
>>4114477imagination status : number 5some people see text, others see worlds. its not the developers fault
>>4114092agreed. the graphics and UI were dated even for 1985 but its got a lot more depth than RPGs here in 2026.
>>4117327I think you misunderstood, I was not apologizing with that reply.
>>4118007ok. repent.shame!
>>4115866Spiderweb games were already mentioned. Have you checked out Moonring, Realms of Antiquity and Skald? What do you think are the core features of Ultima V other games fail to match?
>>4116106>>4118392I never got into the Spiderweb games, maybe I should. I have played Moonring and Skald. They were neat but not anything like what I love about U5. U5 has a very early iteration of a living world (npc schedules etc) and there are no quest flags. If you know what to say to people, you can get the answers you want right off the bat. This makes it easy to cheat for those who just follow walkthroughs but also lends itself to a very natural, detective-like way of playing for those who don't. I would like a game with a similar kind of quest progression, a living world (probably even easier to make a more detailed, varied and fleshed out one nowadays), many NPCs each with something to add (or take) and maybe more tactical combat (the combat in U5 being extremely poor). I don't care about 'retro pixel graphics' or whatever, but it could have them if need be. I like the structure and almost overwhelming breadth of the game world in U5. I remember going to U5 from U4 and being like 'holy shit what the hell do I do'. I want that kind of feeling.
