Witcher 3 is already a modern game that looks fine. Graphics have barely improved in the last ten years at all, what is the need for remastering the same game twice? Resources are finite, manpower and time and effort are finite, there are opportunity costs to every choice. There were surely better use of those employees' time, unless they were jeets or something.

The "next gen" update was basically just porting it to dx11 and slapping raytracing on top of it. Remastered is a proper remaster.

Literal goycattle behaviour. TW3 is barely 10 years old, it ran perfectly fine even before the DX11 update. It didn't need any of this and the fact that you can't tell they're trying to repair their broken image with "le soulful devs gave us a free remaster??? that's so fucking wholesome!!!" PR is sad. It's textbook CDPR, it was cool of them back in the day, now it's just pitiful, especially coming from a studio which has been compromised and much of its talent leaving.

In the end, they did this because it's easy. If they actually gave a shit they'd remaster/remake TW1 but they know they'd need to put in effort to not fuck that up.

I think CDPR are just a bunch of tech autists. Given the progression of CP77, they probably just wanted Witcher 3 to have all the fancy nvidia bells and whistles irregardless of the end product.

Ok guys, 1st time W3 player here (having played 1 and 2) and still in the beginning: Is the remaster worth it or should I revert back to 4.04? I got it for free, so no biggie.

I've read the bug fixes in the changelog, I've seen in-game the expanded talent trees and all, but also the whole game feels kind of....desaturated visually? It might depend partly on the rig, idk. Also, I imagine a lot of mods got broken after the update so less pool to choose from.
What's your opinion then?

The big combat change mechanically for Geralt is lock on and they improved the animations.
Fundamentally, action does not change.
Skill tree rework is the same deep as a puddle skill tree with reworked requirements/effects.

The 'meaningful' change is enemy behavior, which you can still dodge roll or QuenTank with impunity amuwau

Objectively it's an improvement. Your progression was previously locked behind level. You could hit every place of power in the game but only be able to access slots unlocked by your level resulting in a bunch of unusable skills. Now slots unlock based on skillpoints gained resulting in a better progression curve. If you want to explore and gain skillpoints you're rewarded by actually being able to use those skills. Likewise you can just beeline for certain skills now.
My single qualm is that the general tree feels backwards and poorly designed. Witcher school specialization feels like they should be capstone skills rather than entry level, and the sun and stars skill, a basic QoL skill for death march requires a point in specific school specializations.
